1 SWAT ROUND-UP INTERNATIONAL 2018 EDUCATIONAL TRAINING COURSES HOTEL TRAINING COURSES DEBRIEF BATON ROUGE, LA INCIDENT Lieutenant J. Darron Leach, Baton Rouge Police Department (LA) On July 17, 8:40 a.m., an individual wearing a mask and body armor, and armed with two rifles and a handgun, began shooting at law enforcement officers who were responding to reports of a man carrying a weapon, in the vicinity of the Hammond Aire Plaza Shopping Center on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Three law enforcement officers were killed; three law enforcement officers were wounded. The shooter was killed in an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement officers. Course# AM-Mon-015 PM-Mon-015 SNIPER TEAM ORGANIZATION AND LEADERSHIP Jonathan Bigelow, Orlando Police Department This informational course, presented in an open forum/discussion format, is aimed at addressing common practices with respect to SWAT Sniper Team training requirements/regiments, basic certification courses, regulatory qualification standards, selection of team members and documentation considerations. Other topics of discussion include focus planning, equipment budgeting, courtroom testimony/legal issues and ammunition considerations. Requires attendee s interaction. STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Note taking materials. Students are required to bring a written description of agency s current sniper qualification course of fire or a written description of a course of fire typically trained. 2 SWAT ROUND-UP INTERNATIONAL 2018 EDUCATIONAL TRAINING COURSES CRITICAL MINDSET FOR COUNTER AMBUSH Michael Neal / Jason Fitzwater, N&F Training Solutions LLC / Jared Ogden, Triumph Systems This course will provide real-life scenarios for today s LEO s on incidents that are costing officers their lives. The training is focused on officers making split second decisions with shoot-don t shoot scenarios, noticing signs of an ambush, along with fighting to win the ambush. Scenarios will include foot pursuit ambush; responding to call ambush; residential approach ambush; officer down ambush; and domestic violence call ambush. Sims weapons and ammo will be used for this class that will consist of force on force training and moving targets. STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Gloves; eye protection (for the moving target scenarios); long sleeve shirt, tactical pants and boots; and light body armor or plate carrier. Course# AM-Mon-008 PM-Mon-008 EXPLOSIVE BREACHING Joe Littlejohn / Kris Brooks / Chris Hall, Florida SWAT Association (Orange County SO) This course will demonstrate the use of a minimum amount of explosives needed to perform dynamic entries. STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Ear and eye protection (wrap around goggles/glasses), helmet and long sleeve shirts. Course# AM-Mon-018 PM-Mon-018 LAW ENFORCEMENT PROTECTIVE SECURITY OPERATIONS Willie Womack, (DHS HSI (Retired) / Tom Wynn, (DHS HSI (Retired), Wynn Solutions Group, Inc. The Law Enforcement Protective Security Operations (LE-PSO) seminar is designed to provide the students with basic principles and concepts related to protective operation missions. Law enforcement officers are often tasked with this unique mission with little or no formal training. This 4-hour seminar will serve as an introduction and will highlight the 5-day comprehensive Law Enforcement Protective Security Operations Training Program (LE-PSOTP) based largely on the established and tested methodologies used by the U.S. Secret Service and the U.S. Department of State s Bureau of Diplomatic Security Service. Subjects covered include Introduction to Protective Operations for LE; Protective Security Formations; Motorcade Operations (Arrival/Departure); Attack on Principal Drills; Threat Identification and Mitigation; Protective Security Equipment; and Protective Agent COF. STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Jacket BDU type shirt or blouse is sufficient; handgun; (100 rounds of FRANGIBLE AMMO); belt type holster (either inside the waist band (IWB) or outside the waist band holster (OWB) CONCEALED); eye and ear protection; and water to stay hydrated. 3 LINEAR ASSAULT TRAINING Members of Amtrak Police - Special Operations Unit THIS COURSE IS SCHEDULED FROM 0800 HOURS TO 1700 HOURS ON MONDAY, 11/12/18. YOU MUST COMPLETE THE ENTIRE BLOCK OF INSTRUCTION IN ORDER TO MEET THE TRAINING REQUIREMENTS SET FORTH BY THE SRI COMMITTEE. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN A TIME PENALTY FOR YOUR TEAM. ONLY THOSE PRE-REGISTERED FOR THIS COURSE WILL BE ALLOWED TO THE OFF-SITE LOCATION NO WALK INS ACCEPTED! In this course, participants will develop techniques and sharpen skills needed to effectively approach, enter and regain control of a passenger train set. Participants will be shown a brief PowerPoint presentation on topics such as historical threats to passenger rail, CQC, breaching methods, etc. Participants will use the developed techniques to completed scenarios designed to test and challenge the participant on fully functioning passenger train equipment. STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Full tactical duty gear (BDU s, boots, vest), gloves, eye protection and helmet. SIMS weapons will be provided. If you have a holster and magazines that will accommodate a Glock 22 pistol or Glock 17, please bring it with you. NO DUTY WEAPONS AND NO AMMO!!! (BJ) Hall / John Mikula / Peter Roehrig, Florida SWAT Association This course will focus on the rescue of a downed officer/civilian and treatment. Students will be trained in advanced rescue techniques that can be used to perform a rescue in a high risk environment and the treatment to increase the chance of survival of the downed officer/civilian. Students will be trained in an open field rescue, rescue from a vehicle and rescue from a structure. During the training, we will teach the students how to extract an injured person from the point of injury using drag and carries, as well as other extraction devices (skeds, litters, etc.). STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Tactical uniform, vest, helmet, gloves and eye protection. NO WEAPONS OR AMMO!!! Course# AM-Mon-001 PM-Mon-001 POLICE JIU JITSU Steven Strivelli / Felipe Jose, Palm Beach County Sheriff s Office This course is an introduction to Police Jiu Jitsu positions and training. 4 QUICK REACTION FORCE (QRF) TRAINING Tim Stanley / James Parker, FL SWAT Association (Orlando PD) QRF training will involve a live fire course working through crowds and engaging suspect(s). The QRF will be in two four-man elements while providing an over watch detail. Lots of moving targets and challenges involved in a mass shooting scenario. This course will also encompass all aspects of deployment utilizing an Armored Vehicle, to include loading and unloading tactics, hands-on officer rescues, immediate action drills, and live fire and firearms training within the vehicle and outside the vehicle. STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Students are expected to bring all weapons systems issued to them by their agency with sufficient ammunition to conduct firearms training (full kit handguns (100 rounds) - long guns (200 rounds), eye protection, ear protection, helmet, entry/heavy vest and water to stay hydrated. INDIVIDUALS ATTENDING THIS COURSE WILL MEET AT THE RANGE BY THE REGISTRATION TRAILER AT 0730 HOURS (FOR AM CLASS) AND 1230 HOURS (FOR PM CLASS) ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2018, TO DEPART BY MOTORCADE TO THE CLASS LOCATION. Course# AM-Mon-004 PM-Mon-004 RED DOT PISTOL SKILL BUILDER Scott Reidy, Sig Sauer Academy This four hour course is designed to improve the shooter s ability to use a reflexive sight on a pistol in any situation. Students will develop skills necessary to properly use a reflexive sight both two handed and single handed. They will also improve on the skills and knowledge to successfully negotiate around obstacles and shoot on the move. Students will record shooting data to compare their performance with iron sights and the reflexive sight. STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Pistol with red dot, holster, magazine pouch, and 3 magazines; and 300 rounds of handgun ammo. Ten (10) Sig 320 RX pistols will be available for use during the class. Course# AM-Mon-009 PM-Mon-009 SNIPER SPECIFIC WOUND BALLISTIC WORKSHOP Tom Falone IV / Chris McFarland, Florida Bullet This workshop will be specific to sniper weapons and ammunition. Students are encouraged to bring their issued sniper rifles and (2) rounds of.308 ammunition to test during this event. It has been our experience that most agencies will walk away from this training re-evaluating their current doctrine and equipment selection. We will also dispel some common myths surrounding glass shots and other barriers. Several different types of glass will be shot during the course. STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Again, attendees are encouraged to bring their issued sniper rifles and (2) rounds of.308 ammunition to compare in FBI ballistic protocol testing. Eye and ear protection is required. Course# AM-Mon-002 PM-Mon-002 TACTICAL RAPPEL OPERATIONS SELF-BELAY, TEAM VERTICAL ENTRY TECHNIQUES - Tom Foster / John Worsham, FL SWAT Association This class will provide knowledge and hands-on training that will enhance the student s confidence and skills needed for The Vertical Option. Students will demonstrate proper window entry techniques and then progress to a more demanding synchronized four-man team entry. The student should be comfortable on a rope and possess a basic rappel background that will enable him/her to excel in this fast paced class. STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Helmet, rappel gloves, Figure 8 Descender, rappel harness and (2) locking/auto carabineers (minimum) 27kN (steel, alloy steel or aluminum). Course# AM-Mon-019 PM-Mon-019
5 TACTICAL RIFLE / SUBGUN COURSE Chris Perz / Cheyne Gilliland, Florida SWAT Association (Sarasota County SO) This class will cover basic and advanced drills in both stationary and moving positions. Rapid reloads and transitions will be covered and trained wearing your issued full tactical vest. Additionally, team training will be covered working in groups of 2 for movement drills across open areas addressing threats downrange. If time allows, we will end with a competition-style individual event. The drills are: Point of aim-point of impact; Left Right Center; Advanced Reload Drill; Move/Moving-Cover/Covering; and Competitive event - moving and shooting from various positions for time. STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Agency issued rifle/subgun with (750) rounds of FRANGIBLE (NON-COPPER JACKETED) rifle/subgun rounds. Agency issued handgun with (250) FRANGIBLE (NON-COPPER JACKETED) handgun rounds. Tactical vest as issued and deployed during a callout, helmet, and eye and ear protection needed by each participant. Please bring drinks to stay hydrated. WE WILL BE SHOOTING ON STEEL SO PLEASE BRING FRANGIBLE, NON-COPPER JACKETED AMMUNITION AS DESCRIBED. Course# AM-Mon-011 PM-Mon-011 UAS INTEGRATION INTO THE SWAT ENVIRONMENT Shawn McCook / Alex Richards, Florida SWAT Association / Orange County SO This class will focus on ways to integrate the use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) into SWAT operations Topics covered will include picking equipment and getting started; incorporating sustems with other technology; legal requirements and current case law; and examples of real world applications. This class will focus primarily on use of the UAS inside of a structure to assist in clearing prior to making entry. STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: None. Course# AM-Mon-005 PM-Mon-005 USE OF TRIPODS DURING SNIPER DEPLOYMENTS Brent Addison, Florida SWAT Association (Lakeland PD) / Chris Tipton, Collier County SO This course will cover positional shooting and sniper hide options utilizing a tripod. The use of tripods has greatly increased the deployment options in terms with hides and accuracy while shooting in positions other than prone. Participants will have the opportunity to engage targets out to 300 yards from various positions utilizing a tripod. STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Precision rifle with optics, sling and (100) rounds of rifle ammunition (.308 preferred). IF YOU BRING.223 OR 5.56 AMMO, IT WILL NEED TO BE FRANGIBLE. Tripod optional.
