1 Police In - Service Training Schedule FALL SPRING CRIMINAL JUSTICE LAW ENFORCEMENT DEPARTMENT
2 Please view the attached Police In-service Training schedule and guidelines for Fall Spring 2019 as selected by the training committee. Please review all of the attached documents. If you have any questions, please contact: Michael Neuens Natasha Gardner Phone: (262) Phone: (262) PROCEDURES: Registration will be done on-line at: Click on Police In-Service Training Registration link Training will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday s are half-day sessions. Priority registration is given to officer s registering for all 3 days (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday) over single day registrations. The cost of full day training is $31.34 per day/per officer. Thursday half-day class will be $17.92 per day/per officer. Individual Officer s names and addresses MUST be included in registration process. CLASS SIZE: Monday - Use of Force / DAAT 24 students per class Tuesday - Legal Update / Courtroom Survival Tactics / Incident Review 24 students per class Wednesday EVOC / Firearms 24 students per class Wednesday class requires each student to bring a handgun with 50 rounds, a rifle (M-4 style) with 50 rounds, along with ear and eye protection and body armor. Thursday half day classes are separate topics a.m. and p.m., which will require separate registration. Thursday AM (ONLY) Vehicle Pursuit Training (VPT) 16 students per class Thursday PM (Afternoons Fall) MILO Scenarios 12 students per class Thursday PM (Afternoons Spring) VPT for Administrators 16 students per class REGISTRATION GUIDELINES: Fall: For departments wishing to register for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, priority registration will begin Tuesday, July 24, Registration for individual Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursday AM/PM will begin Tuesday, August 7, Spring: For departments wishing to register for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, priority registration will begin Tuesday, October 9, Registration for individual Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursday AM/PM will begin Tuesday, October 30, CANCELLATIONS: Cancellations of individual officers previously registered cannot be accomplished on-line. LOCATION: (Directly across from WCTC; East side of HWY 16) ACADIS: Upon successful completion of the training day, each officer s training hours and firearm qualification information will be entered in ACADIS.
3 Course Description and Schedule 8:00 am 4:30 pm belt, and body armor. batons, knives, ect. MONDAYS USE OF FORCE / DAAT Team Tactics and Controlling a Violent Subject Officers will review the 2 officer/1 subject takedown. Officers will also learn a 3-4 officer/1 subject takedown technique, which is a coordinated team effort for addressing the violent subject who needs to be taken into custody. Assertiveness Training Officers will test and practice their assertiveness through scenario-based training. Officers will be presented with micro-scenarios while equipped with student RedMan gear and other police equipment to allow them to select an appropriate option, if using force is necessary. 8:00 am 4:30 pm belt, and body armor. batons, knives, ect. Gunfight Acclimation Drill The purpose of this training drill is to re-create the dynamics, conditions and stressors involved in an armed confrontation between a police officer and a suspect. The goal is to teach the Mechanics of a Gunfight. TUESDAYS Legal Update / Courtroom Survival Tactics / Incident Review Legal Update o New legislation and changes. Courtroom Survival Tactics o What to expect if you are asked to testify. o Tips on how to prepare for court. o How to avoid being subpoenaed in the first place (report writing). o Why is this case going to trial? Incident Review Students will view videos and interact with the MILO simulator. After each incident, students will collectively, through group discussions, determine all of the elements necessary to create proper reports, including Use of Force Reports.
4 8:00 am 4:30 pm NEEDED FOR EVOC Gun belt with handcuff key. Remove all weapons and NEEDED FOR FIREARMS belt, body armor, and appropriate clothing for weather. HANDGUN and 50 HANDGUN ROUNDS. RIFLE (M-4 STYLE) and 50 RIFLE ROUNDS. WEDNESDAYS EVOC / Firearms EVOC o Reviewing and performing basic and advanced EVOC driving skills that might be used during emergency response and/or pursuits. o Identifying tactics used during pursuits and where they fall in the Intervention Options. o Reviewing radio protocol and pursuit coordination prior to the termination. o Post pursuit scene management. o The majority of the class will be on the track. Firearms o State of Wisconsin Handgun Qualification Course. o State of Wisconsin Rifle Qualification Course familiarity. o Team tactics involving violent offenders. o MILO exercises involving deadly force. o Shooting from various ground fighting positions. THURSDAYS AM - FALL Vehicle Pursuit Training (VPT) The VPT training sessions for 7/1/2017-6/30/19 biennium will address following issues. Reviewing basic EVOC skills that might be used during emergency response and/or pursuits. Reviewing the steps for conducting a high-risk contact at the end of a pursuit (the ideal model). Identifying tactics used during pursuits and where they fall in the Intervention Options Reviewing how to conduct a non-traditional high-risk contact (for example, if the pursuit ends in a crash with the suspect vehicle in the ditch or that crashed). The majority of the class will be on the track. THURSDAYS - PM - FALL MILO Scenarios Officers will interact with the MILO Shoothouse Version of the Use of Force simulation system. Focus will be on decisionmaking and judgment to determine the proper level of force to use and the proper application of that force. batons, knives, ect.
