This was followed by the Chinese New Year Lunch on 21 Feb 2016, hosted by our Chinese members and other Chinese retired Armed Forces officers. We also had a friendly golf game with the Alumni PTD on 23 Feb I am pleased to note that all these activities were well responded and supported by our members and other retired Armed Forces officers. Our committee held its first quarterly committee meeting on 4 Feb 2016, during which we discussed the affairs and activities of RAFOC, including the programme for the year We will continue to hold the various activities held over the last few years and we hope to introduce a few other activities to get our members together from time to time. 5 RAFOC GOLF SECTION Our RAFOC membership stands at nearly 700 members, half of whom are golfers. RAFOC organizes four golf games per year - two amongst ourselves, one with the serving Armed Forces officers, and one with the Alumni PTD. As members of RAFOC, in particular as golfers, our RAFOC Secretariat is obliged to inform all members on the golf activities from time to time. This is done through the sending of our golf circulars by post or sms/ whatsapp etc, to solicit their participation. The sending of the circulars ie the printing, the envelopes and stamps cost approximately RM500 per notification, totaling RM2,000 per year. This is paid by our RAFOC general fund. To reduce the number of members to whom our RAFOC Secretariat needs to send the circular on our golf activities, our RAFOC Golf Sub-Committee, with the approval of our RAFOC Executive Committee, has decided to form a RAFOC Golf Section on its own. RAFOC members who wish to be kept informed on our golf activities will need to register and make a small one-time contribution of RM100 to be a member of the RAFOC Golf Section. The fund collected will be held in trust by RAFOC and will be used for the specific purpose of golf. Members of RAFOC who register as members of the RAFOC Golf Section need only pay the basic charges for each game. Golfers who are members of RAFOC but who are not members of the RAFOC Golf Section will need to pay an extra administrative fee, say RM10.00 per game. Other retired Armed Forces officers who are not members of RAFOC will need to pay an extra contribution, say RM20.00 as administrative fee per game, if they are invited to play. With the formation of our RAFOC Golf Section, the administration and funding of our golf activities will be better organized. Our RAFOC Golf Sub-Committee looks forward to your support. Non-golfers and those golfers who may not be able to participate in our golf games are also welcome to join as members of our RAFOC Golf Section so that they can be kept informed on our golf activities. Golfing to enhance our comradeship and concern for each other! 10 A DAY TO REMEMBER 14 FEB rd ARMY DAY 1 MAR 1933 February 14 is a historic day to the Royal Malay Regiment for that matter to the Malaysian Army, to the Malaysian Armed Forces and to the Nation. It was on this day in 1942 that Platoon 7, C Company, 1 st Battalion, Malay Regiment under Lt Adnan bin Saidi, made the final stand against the advancing Japanese Army in Bukit Chandu, Singapore. Although heavily out-numbered, Lt Adnan refused to surrender and urged his men to fight until the end. They held off the Japanese for two days under heavy enemy shelling and shortages of food and ammunition. Adnan was shot but carried on fighting until he succumbed to his injury. On the next day, 15 Feb 1942, the British Army surrendered to the Japanese Army. For the next four years and six months, Malaya was under the Japanese occupation until 12 September 1945, the day the Japanese Army in turn formally surrendered to the British Army. Units of the Royal Malay Regiment all held a special Majlis Baca Yasin, Tahlil and Doa Selamat in their camps in remembrance of those in the regiment who fell during the battle against the invading Japanese Army during World War II. Let us pause a while and remember this day and our comrades before us who died defending the country. Let us doa agar Allah merestui pengorbanan mereka dan meletakkan roh-roh mereka bersama mereka yang soleh lagi dikasihinya. Al-Fatihah! On 1 March 2016, the Malaysian Army celebrated its 83rd Anniversary of its formation. It was 83 years ago on 1 March 1933 that the first squad of the Experimental Company of the Malay Regiment, consisting of 25 selected young Malay recruits, started their military training in Port Dickson. The idea to form an indigenous Malay army started well before the break of World War I. It took the Malay rulers and other prominent Malay leaders more than 20 years to convince the British Government to raise a local army. There were fears by the British that the Malays, with their leisurely temperament and lack of military traditions other than those of guerilla warfare, would rebel against the discipline of the parade ground and barrack-room. It was not until it became too costly to the British Government to continue having units of the Indian Army in Malaya, that the idea to form a local force came into being. On 23 January 1933, the Malay Regiment Bill was tabled and passed by the Federal Council as Enactment No. 11. This first squad formed the nucleus of the Royal Malay Regiment and the Malaysian Army today. The Malaysian Army has grown in size and consists of various regiments and corps with the participation of the other races in the multi-racial units in the process. From a counter-insurgency force, it has transformed into a conventional for ce with modern and updated weaponary, equipment and vehicles. Throughout its 83 years of existence, it has seen through World War II, the Japanese Occupation, the British Administration, the Communist Insurgency, the preparation for Independence, the formation of Malaysia, Konfrontasi, May 13, the end of the Communist armed threat and the armed intrusion in Sabah. The Malaysian Army has participated in UN Peace Keeping Missions in a number of countries overseas, as an extension of the foreign policy of the country. Within Malaysia, the Malaysian Army has continued to assist the local authorities during national disasters and r ural development projects and the like and recently in support of the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS). Together with the Royal Malaysian Navy and the Royal Malaysian Air Force, the Malaysian Army continues to be the deterrent to would be aggressors and trouble makers to the country, thus ensuring peace and stability in order for the economic and social development of the country can continue to be carried out. For the retired Army officers, we should be proud to be part of the Malaysian Army history and the contributions and sacrifices that we made to make the nation what it is today. We wish the present Army officers, HAPPY 83rd ARMY DAY and do take care of the Army that we have left. Salam Gagah Setia! 10

RAFOC was originally registered with the Registrar of Societies Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur on 8 September The Certificate of Registration was officially handed over by the new Ketua Pengarah JHEV to our RAFOC President during the RAFOC Committee courtesy call on the new Ketua Pengarah JHEV on Thursday, 31 Mar 2016 at his office. medical devices which are not provided by Government hospitals/clinics for its pensioners and civil officers to obtain their medical prescriptions and devices through a number of registered pharmacies and vendors. Through JHEV, the e-mass has been extended to the Armed Forces veterans and their eligible dependents under the JHEV effective 9 March However, there are restrictions applicable to supplies of medication and medical device for the Armed Forces veterans. RAFOC will be organizing a forum to provide the Bahagian Perkhidmatan Kesihatan ATM and JHEV, together with HAT Tuanku Mizan, Kuala Lumpur and OratisRx, to brief the members of RAFOC on the e- MASS arrangement for the Armed Forces veterans. RAFOC trusts the extending of the e-mass arrangement will make the getting of medications and medical devices which are not provided by Government hospitals/clinic, much more convinient to the Armed Forces veterans henseforth. Members of RACOC will be duly informed on the date and venue of the forum. Where and when the medications and medical devices could not be provided by the Government hospitals/clinics, the veterans can purchase them from any registered pharmacies or vendors and make their claims for reimbursement from JHEV. To avoid the Armed Forces veterans from having to pay from their own money for such requirement, the Farmasi Veteran was set up to assist the veterans to get the medications and medical devices. The Farmasi Veteran will provide the medications and medical devices to the Armed Forces veterans and make their claim on behalf of the veterans, from JHEV.
