1 Since its inception in 1916, the Marine Corps Junior ROTC program has been viewed as a strong program that provides youth with much-needed skills in citizenship and leadership. The Lejeune High School MCJROTC has held a prestigious place within Camp Lejeune. It is at its essence, a Leadership Education Program meant solely to develop character and citizenship with guidance and direction by Master Gunnery Sergeant James Gardiner. The effects of the Marine Corps JROTC program reach far beyond the classroom and into the community in developing character, leadership, and civic responsibility in tens of thousands of America's kids. Marine Corps JROTC is a character education program. The program keeps kids in school, helps them find their way during the turbulent teenage years, and assists them in becoming productive members of their community. The program produces young men and women who are ready to accept the responsibilities as well as the privileges of citizenship. The students of the Lejeune High School MCJROTC volunteered January 2018 through December 2018 with a total of 9,468 hours. A few highlights of their volunteerism are: Hurricane Florence relief clean-up, 72 color guards, four parades, 11 runs, five ALZ Walks and two Buddy Walks. In total, the Cadet Corps has 102 Cadets that are motived and dedicated citizens that give back to our installations and local communities. Bravo Zulu!

2 Families danced the night away in celebration of the 243rd Marine Corps birthday and children had the opportunity to experience what a birthday ball is really like during the Family Ball at Tarawa Terrace Community Center on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. The ceremony began with the Lejeune High School Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) reading the Commandant s birthday message, followed by the color guard ceremony. Children watched in wonder as the JROTC members marched into the middle of the room, perfectly synchronized, presenting the flags. The TT Community Center developed this ball for children to experience the traditions and also to allow them to have a special experience with their parents. The TT Community Center would be hard pressed to make this event happen without the dedicated volunteers that were present and ready to lend a hand! Each volunteer that shared their talents with the TT Community Center provided the families with a world class experience. Together, they volunteered over 40 hours of volunteer services. A volunteer shared, I enjoyed volunteering at this event. I really liked that the staff was nice and it was fun to watch the kids dance. Way to go to these awesome military volunteers that freely gave their time in support of the Family Ball!

3 The Heroes Elementary PTO is a nonprofit organization of Heroes staff members and parents & legal guardians of Heroes students and seeks to enrich the educational environment through supplemental materials and experiences. A few highlights are Family Night Events, Candy Grams, Spirit Wear and Teacher Appreciation. For the 2018 volunteer year, the Board Members of Heroes PTO have volunteered well over 1400 hours. The volunteers of Heroes PTO are an energetic, fun group of parents and staff, helping to provide the students of Heroes with fun activities and services throughout year. Way to go and a quick shout out to Heroes PTO! Today, the SNCO Wives' Club operates the Thrift Shop aboard Camp Lejeune. It was officially opened for business on August 23, Proceeds from the Thrift Shop allow club members today to continue the long-standing traditions of giving back to the military community at large. Currently we have been able to give out over $45,000 in scholarships this past year. On top of that, they have also been able to donate money to local and base schools, Disabled American Veterans, Wounded Warriors, Chaplains Food Baskets, and other various charities and organizations in and around Camp Lejeune. All this has been made possible by a group of women who wanted to make a difference in the military community and the tradition continues today. They are a wildlife sanctuary specializing in rehabilitation care and treatment for small mammals, songbirds, waterfowl, raptors, and shorebirds. They provide: Orphan care for babies, which are eventually released back into the wild. Educational programs for schools, youth, civic groups, and libraries relating to local wildlife, ecology, the environment, natural resources, and backyard habitat creation.
