Once again, we are extremely proud to partner with Disabled Sports USA (DSUSA) to raise awareness and funds for wounded veterans in their Warfighter Sports program. This year, we are also delighted to support Empower YOUth Sports, DSUSA s children s program. DSUSA s Warfighter Sports program offers sports rehabilitation in military hospitals and communities across the U.S. The program rebuilds the lives of wounded veterans through sports by improving self-confidence, promoting independence, and uniting families through shared, healthy activities. Since 1967, Disabled Sports USA has proudly served wounded service members, including those injured in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, offering more than 30 winter and summer sports at more than 100 events each year. Since 2003, more than 9,200 of the most severely wounded and their family members have been served. Youth with disabilities are left out of sports in their schools and communities, thus are twice as likely to be physically inactive compared to youth without disabilities. This results in reduced health, happiness, independence and community involvement. In fact, youth with disabilities have obesity rates nearly 40% higher than for youth without disabilities creating much higher risks for health-related diseases. Empower Youth Sports provides youth with a wide range of disabilities the opportunity to participate in dozens of adaptive sports within their communities. Year-round programming is conducted through DSUSA s nationwide network of 120 chapters, allowing more than 20,000 youth from across the country to participate in adaptive sports.
