2 CONNERSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION TIMETABLE February 17 February 17 Mar. 9 March 16 March - April May 7 A presentation will be given announcing Local Scholarship procedures. Local Scholarships are available on the school web-site. Scholarship applications are to be returned to the Guidance Office. Applications are processed and forwarded to donors Organizations. Organizations will conduct interviews and/or select recipients. The Senior Scholarship Night will be held at 6:30 in the Robert E. Wise Center. The Scholarship Chairman will Notify seniors who are to be in the program that night. NOTES ON THE COMMON APPLICATIONS 1. Section 2 List the name and corresponding number from the Table of Contents of the specific scholarship that you are applying for. There is a common application required for each scholarship. Students can copy the application and simply change the name on this section. Note the designations by each scholarship and follow the directions. 2. Section 11 List the complete address of references. You should ask their permission before listing them on the common application. 3. Sections 3-13 You should be as complete and inclusive as possible. Do not sell yourself short. 4. Essay In completing this section relate important information about yourself not covered anywhere else on the common application that you feel will provide a better picture of your qualities. 5. A.D.O.U. Literary Club Scholarship The A.D.O.U. Literary Club Scholarship is established for a female senior at Connersville Senior High School who will be attending an accredited, four-year university, pursuing a bachelor's degree in any discipline. She must be in the upper twenty-five percent of her graduating class. Applications will be made by completing the common application form. The recipient will be selected by a committee appointed by the club officers. The annual scholarship will be in the amount of $ Altrusa International, Inc. of Connersville, Indiana Altrusa is an international service organization of professional business leaders. One or two one thousand dollars ($ ) scholarships will be awarded to seniors planning to attend a four year college. Children/step-children or grandchildren/stepgrandchildren of an Altrusa member will be given priority. It will also be based on graduating from an accredited high school in Fayette County, academic standards, financial need, and school and community activities. The money will be paid to the recipient upon proof of college acceptance and the intent to enter in the fall of their year of high school graduation. The common application will be used. 3. Fayette County Diabetic Support Group Scholarship The Fayette County Diabetic Support Group will offer $ scholarships to two graduating seniors who have diabetes or are planning on pursuing a degree in a diabetic related field. The recipients must be accepted at an accredited college, university, or vocational school. The scholarships are based on academic achievement, citizenship, and school/community involvement. The common application will be used along with a short essay detailing why the student feels eligible for this scholarship. The scholarships will be made payable to the recipients following proof of acceptance at their school of choice. 5

6 4.Class of 1964 Scholarship/FCF The Class of 1964 Scholarship supports a qualified Connersville High School student. Applicant must be a Connersville High School student. Applicant must have applied and been accepted into an accredited Applicant must have high academic and high moral standards. Applicant must have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicant must be a descendent of a 1964 class member. Financial need will be considered. 5. Henry A. and Jean Zumkeller Positive Attitude Scholarship/FCF In remembrance of Henry A. and Jean Zumkeller, this scholarship offers assistance to a qualified student who will be continuing his or her education at a college, university, or technical school in Indiana. Applicant must be a Connersville High School student. Applicant must have applied and been accepted into an accredited institution of higher education in Indiana. Applicant must have high academic and high moral standards. Applicant must have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 or higher. The award will be primarily based on the student s positive attitude and influence, as well as on his or her work ethic. Applicant must submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher and one letter of recommendation from a community member. 6. Lowell Wise Agricultural Scholarship/FCF In remembrance of Lowell Wise, this scholarship offers assistance to a qualified student who will be pursuing a degree in agriculture. Applicant must be a Connersville High School student. Applicant must have applied and been accepted into an accredited institution of higher education that offers a degree in agriculture. Applicant must have high academic and moral standards. 7. Andrew Coburn Memorial Scholarship The Family of Andrew Coburn would like to offer a scholarship to a graduating senior that is either a student in the culinary arts program at the Whitewater Technical Career Center or is planning on attending a Culinary Arts program at a college of their choice. The Culinary Arts program gave Andrew an insight to what he wanted to pursue for his career and his family would like to see that carried forward. We are thankful for the opportunity that was provided to him while he attended this program. The scholarship is a $ award that is offered once a year to a qualifying senior. 6

7 8. Anna Thomson Memorial Scholarship/FCF In remembrance of Anna Thomson, this scholarship offers assistance to a qualified student who will be pursuing a degree in elementary education. Applicant must be a Connersville High School student. Applicant must have applied and been accepted into an accredited institution of higher education that offers a bachelor s degree in elementary education. Applicant must have high academic and moral standards. 9. Jack and Mary Rains Scholarships Jack and Mary Rains have established a trust fund to award scholarships to six graduating seniors with the highest grade point average who live in Harrison Township outside the city limits of Connersville. The common application will be used 10. Connersville Kiwanis Club Scholarships The Connersville Kiwanis Club will be offering six scholarships: two will be for the Bill Crone Memorial Scholarship, two will be for the John Howard Miller Scholarship, and two will be for the R.L. Doc Haley Memorial Scholarship. These three men were outstanding members of the Connersville Kiwanis Club. The club desires to honor their memory and encourage six Connersville High School graduates. The selection criteria will include academic achievement and participation in community and school activities. Preference will be given to children and grandchildren of Connersville Kiwanis members or members of the CHS Key Club. The recipients will be selected by evaluation of the common application. 11. Business and Professional Women's Organization Scholarship Amount and number of scholarships to be determined annually by INFBPW members after recommendation of budget committee. Applicant must plan at least a college associate degree or equivalent. Applicant should select a major or certification. Applicant must have shown an effort in high school toward pursuing a career. Applicant must be planning to attend college or school institution. Applicant can apply and receive other scholarships. Scholarship will be payable to school for the purposes of applying toward specified expenses. If applicant no longer attends school before school s refund date expires, school should refund available portion to INFBPW. Portion returned from school will be submitted to another school within six months if student will be on a full time basis and meet all requirements met for the original scholarship. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 or higher grade point average to apply for scholarship. Committee will consider parents capability of assisting with college financing. Forms not completed will be dismissed without consideration. High priority will be given to close relatives of club members in good standing. 7

8 12. James T. Price Scholarship/FCF In remembrance of James T. Price, the first Principal of Eastview Elementary School, this scholarship offers assistance to a qualified student. Applicant must be a Connersville High School student. Applicant must have applied and been accepted into an accredited Applicant must have high academic and high moral standards. 13. Gene and Jane Guttman Scholarship/FCF The Gene and Jane Guttman Scholarship offers assistance to a Whitewater Technical Career Center student. Applicant must have completed a 2-year WTCC program. Applicant must have applied and been accepted into an accredited institution of higher education that offers a degree in the communication field Applicant must have high academic, high moral standards and good attendance. Applicant must provide a CHS teacher and a WTCC instructor recommendation letter with the application. 14. Christie Family Dentistry Scholarship The Christie Family Dentistry Scholarship will be presented to the student showing interest in pursuing an education in dentistry, dental hygiene, or dental assisting. A short essay and references to on the job shadowing will be considered. 15. Fayette County 4-H Scholarship/FCF The Fayette County 4-H Scholarship offers assistance to a qualified Fayette County graduating senior who is a 10 year 4-H member. Applicant must be a resident of Fayette County. Applicant must have applied and been accepted into an accredited Applicant must have high academic and high moral standards. Applicant must have actively participated in 4-H in home grown and/or homemade projects for 10 or more years. While attending an institute of higher education, the student must maintain a GPA of at least a Charles R. Leming Scholarship/FCF In remembrance of Charles R. Leming, a scholarship will be awarded to a Whitewater Technical Career Center student who has successfully completed a 2 - year WTCC program. Applicant must have applied and been accepted into an accredited Applicant must have high academic and high moral standards. 8

9 17. Conner Quilters Guild Conner Quilters Guild has established two $ scholarships for seniors. All applications will be considered. To be considered for this scholarship a student must complete the common application. The scholarship will be made payable to the recipient and the institution following proof of acceptance and registration to the institution of the individual's choice. If the recipient fails to complete the academic year of the award the scholarship is to be reimbursed to the Guild. 18. Connersville Area Swim Team (C.A.S.T.) Scholarship The Connersville Area Swim Team has established a scholarship to be presented annually to two or more seniors. To be considered for this scholarship, a student must complete a common application and also meet the following requirements: 1.) Submit a brief essay on what impact swimming has had on them. 2.) Must be a member of the High School Swim Team for at least (2) years. 3.) Must be a member of C.A.S.T. for at least 3 seasons (1 1/2 years). Selection of the recipients will be made by the C.A.S.T. Scholarship Committee. The scholarship will be administered directly to the students upon written verification of his/her acceptance at the school of student's choice. 19. Robert L. Joy Memorial Scholarship/FCF In remembrance of Robert L. Joy, this scholarship offers assistance to a qualified student who will be pursuing a degree in the field of Art. Applicant must be a Connersville High School student. Applicant must have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5. Applicant must have applied and been accepted into an accredited Institution of higher education. Applicant must have high academic and moral standards. 20. Daughters of Isabella Scholarship - St. Rita's Circle #63 1. Applicant must be an active member of the Catholic community. 2. Applicant s grades must be at least a C average or above. 3. The applicant must be a graduating senior who will attend an accredited college, university or vocational school to the completion of the freshman term 4. A separate application is also required and can be obtained from the Guidance Office or scholarship chairman (Joyce Seffrin ). 5. Selection of the recipient will be made by the Daughters of Isabella scholarship committee. 6. The scholarship ($500.00) will be paid to the recipient upon proof of financial obligation to a college, etc. by contacting the Daughters of Isabella. 7. In the event the recipient fails to complete the school year, the scholarship is to be repaid to the Daughters of Isabella. 9

10 21. Al and Rene Doyle 4-H Buckaroo Scholarship/FCF In remembrance of Al and Rene Doyle, this scholarship offers assistance to a qualified Connersville High School Senior. Applicant must be a Connersville High School student. Applicant must have applied and been accepted into an accredited institution of higher education. Applicant must have maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher. Applicant must have high academic and moral standards. Applicant must have been a 4-H Buckaroo for at least 5 years, with preference given to10-year Buckaroos. Financial need will be considered. 22. Grandview Elementary School Scholarship Grandview PTO will award a scholarship to a former Grandview student who is graduating from Connersville High School and wishes to further his/her education beyond the high school years. The selection criteria will include, but not be limited to, academic achievement, financial need, and citizenship. The recipient must have attended Grandview at least four years. Application will be made using the common scholarship application form provided by Connersville High School. It is the intent of the Grandview PTO to make this scholarship award $ The Grandview PTO Scholarship Selection Committee, comprised of the principal, a teacher, and parent officer of the PTO, will review all applications and select the recipient. The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient upon presenting to the principal proof of acceptance and registration at a post - secondary institution. 23. Dr. Dana Reihman Scholarship Dr. Dana Reihman, a CHS graduate, is providing a scholarship to a senior member of the cross country and /or track team. The common application will be used. 24. Dorothy Canfield Literary Club Scholarship The Dorothy Canfield Literary Club Scholarship is established for a female senior who will be attending an accredited four year University pursuing an education in either English, Speech, Journalism, or Communications. She must be in the upper 25% of her graduating class. Applications will be made by completing the common scholarship application. The recipient will be selected by a committee appointed by the club officers. The annual scholarship will be in the amount of $ Dr. Alan W. Fitzgerald Memorial Scholarship Dr. Fitzgerald served his community as a leading educator for twenty years. His compassion and concern for young people has left a lasting impression on those who knew him and his influence upon the educational process endures. His family wishes to perpetuate his memory in a manner appropriate to his life. A $ scholarship will be awarded each year to a senior who possesses good academic standing and citizenship. Financial need is strongly considered. Students planning to pursue a career in education are strongly considered as well as other students. The common application will be used. 10

11 26. Earl Chester and Muriel Spicely Scholarship Established for any graduating senior at Connersville High School in the upper 15% of the class who is able to demonstrate the following. 1. A G.P.A. of 3.3 or higher. 2. Three years of math and science. 3. Accepted into a school of pharmacy at the college or university level or who plans to study in a field of medicine. 4. Completed a common application and submit an additional essay, outlining career goals. 27. East Central Indiana Board of Realtors Scholarship The East Central Indiana Board of Realtors provides scholarship competition for area high school seniors. A special application from the Board of Realtors will be used. 28. Janet K. Dorrell Memorial Scholarship American Heritage Reality would like to award a $ scholarship to a graduating female. She must be planning on attending college. We would like to preview any applications that you might have for this type of scholarship in order to make a selection. 29. Edward Collier Scholarship Award Edward Collier had a zest for life and a passion for adventure and excitement. This passion for excitement was exemplified by his extensive list of activities and achievements: drag racing, world record holder, 1967 drag racing National Champion, renowned motorcycle racer, motorcycle racing event and facility manager, builder and pilot of ultralight aircraft. This last activity cost him his life on October 12, Edward was also extremely dedicated to Connersville High School athletics, especially the wrestling program. In 1978, he helped to establish the Fayette Wrestling Council and was very active in this organization until his death. For his dedication, he was awarded the Oscar Horning Distinquished Service Award on June 3, His dedication and zest for life has motivated the Collier family to establish the Edward Collier Scholarship Award. The annual award will be presented to a Connersville High School senior, of high moral and academic character, who embodies Mr. Collier s zest for life, passion for excitement and wishes to further their education at the college level. Preference for the award is a follows: 1. A senior who actively participated in the varsity wrestling program at Connersville High School and who wishes to further their education at the college level. 2. A senior who wishes to further their education at Franklin College of Indiana. This student must be accepted for admission to Franklin College at the time of the award. 3. 12 30. Eta Pi Kappa Eleanor B. Moran Memorial Scholarship Award The children of Eleanor B. Moran, Janis L. Krepp and Johnny L. Bunzendahl, honored their mother before her death, by establishing a Living Memorial Scholarship: to be presented annually in her memory. Since Eleanor was a loyal and active member of Beta Chapter of Eta Pi Kappa Sorority until her death, they decided to present the scholarship in her sorority's name. In an impressive ceremony, the sorority members gathered around her bed as they pledged to honor her scholarship and strive to continue it throughout future years. It was Eleanor's last wish to live until her 75th birthday on June 3rd and to see the first scholarship presented: however, the good Lord called her home on March 10, 1987, after a long bout with cancer. The scholarship's name was then changed to the Eleanor B. Moran Memorial Scholarship Award. ELIGIBILITY: The applicant must be a graduating high school senior, boy or girl, in the top 20% of their graduating class, who will attend an accredited college, university, business or vocational school to the completion of the freshman term. SELECTION PROCESS: The award committee will consist of members of Beta Chapter (to be named by the chapter president each year). Selection will be based on student's participation in high school and community activities, quality of their application, academic potential, and financial need. AMOUNT: The amount of the award will be $ In the event that the recipient does not or cannot complete the freshman term, the award must be returned and will be awarded to the committee's second choice. ADMINISTRATION: The scholarship will be administered directly to the student upon written verification of his or her acceptance at the college of the student's choice. 31. Fayette Regional Health System Auxiliary Scholarship Fayette Regional Health System Auxiliary will award three (3) scholarships to applicants who are graduating seniors, boy or girl, in the top 20% of their graduating class. The recipients must be pursuing a degree in the medical field from an accredited college, university or vocational school. SELECTION PROCESS: The award committee will consist of members of FRHS Auxiliary. Selection will be based on student participation in high school and community activities, application, academic potential, citizenship, and financial need. AMOUNT: The amount of the three (3) awards will be $1, each. In the event that the recipient does not or cannot complete the freshman term, the award must be returned and will be awarded to the committee s second choice. ADMINISTRATION: A check will be mailed directly to the student upon a copy of verification of students acceptance at the college of their choice being delivered to Fayette Regional Health System Auxiliary. The common application will be used. 32. Ella Marlatt Miller Memorial Scholarship Mrs. Miller stated in 1921, How wonderful it would be if the women of this community through their united efforts could help a deserving girl graduate to the fulfillment of her desire for a higher education. Mrs. Miller s idea then became a reality at that time when six local women s clubs accepted Mrs. Miller s invitation to form The Women s Educational Association of Connersville, Indiana. Since the association s inception in 1921, over 190 girls have received scholarships to aid their pursuit of higher education. Over the years, the organization s strength has been in the generosity of a large number of contributors, rather than large amount given by only a few groups or individuals. A scholarship is given by the Women s Educational Association of at least $ to one or two outstanding girls in the senior class to be used to further her/their education in an accredited college or university. 12

Eta Pi Kappa General Scholarship Award ELIGIBILITY: The applicant must be a graduating high school senior in the top 20% of their graduating class, who will attend an accredited college, university, business or vocational school to the completion of the freshman term. SELECTION PROCESS: The award committee will consist of members of Beta chapter (to be named by chapter president each year). Selection will be based on student's participation in high school and community activities, quality of their application, academic potential, and financial need. AMOUNT: The amount of the award will be determined annually, but not to exceed $ In the event that the recipient does not or cannot complete the freshman term, the award must be returned and will be awarded to the committee's second choice. ADMINISTRATION: The scholarship shall be given to the student upon receipt of written verification of acceptance to the college of the student s choice. Beta chapter donates two (2) scholarships annually. The committee will award the first scholarship to a Connersville High School senior. The second shall be awarded from any applications that meet the following criteria. CRITERIA: A member of Eta Pi Kappa Beta Chapter in good standing, or a legacy (child, grandchild, great grandchild or stepfamily) of a member, living or deceased. If there are no applicants for the second scholarship, then both scholarships shall be given to a senior of Connersville High School. All eligibility requirements will need to be met to be considered for this scholarship. 34. Extension Homemakers - 4-H Scholarships The Fayette County Extension Homemakers will give scholarships to outstanding seniors who are 4-H members or related to a Fayette County Extension Homemaker. The number and amounts of scholarships will be determined by the number of applications and the quality of their credentials. The common application and a separate sheet must be completed. The following requirements should be met by the applicants: 1. Must be a 4-H member or an immediate family member of an Extension Homemaker (ex. child or stepchild), and a resident of Fayette County H members applying must list number of projects completed. 3. Must be in the top third of the senior class. 4. Must have a letter of recommendation from 4-H leader or a letter from the President of the Home Ext. Club involved. 5. The scholarship will be paid to the recipient upon proof of acceptance or registration to a college or university. Contact the Extension Office to receive money. 6. The scholarship will be presented to the recipient by a representative of the Fayette County Extension Homemakers Organization. 35. Connersville Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #74 The Connersville FOP Lodge #74 will award (5) five $ scholarships to graduating seniors upon verification of acceptance to an accredited college, university, business or vocational school. Selection for awards will be based upon student s G.P.A., class standing, community involvement, and financial need. Students whose parents are Active or Association FOP members and those pursuing law enforcement careers will be given top priority, however all students are encouraged to apply. In the event the recipient does not complete the freshman term, the award must be returned. When submitting your application please include a short essay depicting your accomplishments and goals. 13

Fayette Central Scholarship The Fayette Central P.T.O, and the Fayette Central Student Council would like to establish a Fayette Central Scholarship for a graduating senior from Connersville High School who wishes to continue their education beyond the high school years. To be eligible for this scholarship the recipient must have attended Fayette Central for at least four of the seven elementary school years. To be considered for this scholarship a student must complete the common scholarship application form, which is available from the High School Guidance Office. The P.T.O. Executive Committee will serve as the selection committee. The scholarship will be made payable to the recipient following proof of acceptance and registration at the institution of the individual's choice. This proof may be submitted to the Fayette Central principal. In the event the student fails to complete the current year the scholarship is to be reimbursed to the fund. 37. Fayette County Retired Teacher Association The Fayette County Retired Teacher Association has established a scholarship for graduating seniors who wish to pursue a career in the field of education. The criteria for selection will be completion of the common application, positive extra-curricular involvement, rank in the top 1/3 of the class, and successful leadership experiences. A committee of the retired teacher association will select the recipient. 38. Fayette Regional Health System Scholarship FRHS has established a scholarship program for a graduating senior who has been accepted into a program through an accredited college or university. FRHS is interested in promoting the health care industry as a viable option for students making career decisions. The criteria for selection will include grade point average, must be in the top 25% of the graduating class. The academic quality of the applicant's high school program will be carefully examined. All applications will then be forwarded to the Human Resource Office of the Hospital. Upon initial screening, a committee from FRHS will interview the applicants for final selection. This is a one-time scholarship of $1, Actual distribution of the scholarship for tuition and/or book fees will be determined by the FRHS committee and the recipient. Fayette Regional Health System will make arrangements with the recipient for the payment of these monies one month prior to the start of their schooling. Should the individual not attend school, the scholarship is null and void. The common application will be used. 39. Bill Webb Farm Bureau INC. Scholarship This scholarship is for students who are pursuing a two-year school or four-year program related to agriculture. They must fill out the common application in its entirety to be considered. The amount of the two scholarships are $ each. 40. Francis & Mildred Turner & Gary Clifford Memorial Scholarship Mrs. Grace Clifford has established a Francis and Mildred Turner & Gary Clifford Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship award will be presented to an outstanding CHS senior who attended elementary school at ORANGE. The common application will be used. 41. Frazee Elementary School Scholarship Frazee Elementary School staff has established a scholarship for a former Frazee student. It will be available to a CHS graduating senior. Criteria for selection will include financial need, academic achievement, academic quality and the appearance of the application. High school seniors will use the common application provided by the scholarship chairman. The selection committee is made up of staff and administrators of Frazee. The scholarship is for $ Payment will be made directly to the student upon receipt of written verification of admission. 14

15 42. Gary Weber D.D.S. Scholarship Dr. Gary Weber has established a scholarship for students wishing to pursue a career in the health profession. It will be available to Connersville High School graduating seniors. Criteria for selection will include financial need, high school grades, the desire to enter the health profession, the academic quality of the high school program. High school seniors will use the common application provided by the scholarship chairman. The amount of the award will be $ Payment will be made directly to the registrar's office upon receipt of written verification of admission. 43. Everton Elementary School Scholarship Everton Elementary School and Everton PTO will award a scholarship to a former Everton student who is a graduating senior at Connersville High School. The criteria for selection will include, but not limited to, academic achievement, financial need, and citizenship. The recipient must have attended Everton Elementary School for at least four (4) years. The selection committee will be comprised of members of the PTO Council and the school principal. The intent is to make the scholarship at least $ The scholarship will be paid directly to the student upon receipt by the school principal of proof of acceptance and registration at an institution of higher learning. Application will be made by completing the common scholarship application form provided by Connersville High School. 44. Grand Avenue United Methodist Church Scholarship The Grand Ave. United Methodist Church is offering a $ scholarship(s). The successful candidate(s) must be an active member of the Grand Ave. United Methodist Church, rank in the top 25% of the class and must be accepted to a two or four year program. The common application will be used. The winner(s) of the scholarship(s) will be chosen by the scholarship committee. 45. Rosalie Nash & Fran McLaughlin Scholarship/FCF In remembrance of Rosalie Nash and Fran McLaughlin, this scholarship offers assistance to a qualified CHS graduate. Applicant must be a Connersville High School student. Applicant must have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5. Applicant must have applied and been accepted into an accredited Applicant must have high academic and moral standards. In the event that the receiver of the scholarship does not complete the first year of training, the amount of the award is to be repaid to the Scholarship Trust Fund. 46. James W. Robertson Scholarship/FCF In remembrance of James W. Robertson, this scholarship offers assistance to a qualified student who will be pursuing a degree in the field of Art. Applicant must be a Connersville High School student. Applicant must have applied and been accepted into an accredited Applicant must have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 or higher. Harold and Shirley Reihman Registered Nurse Scholarship/FCF The Harold and Shirley Reihman Registered Nurse Scholarship will offer assistance to a qualified student who plans to work in the field of nursing. Applicant must be a Connersville High School student. If no qualified nursing student is available, a medical technician may be selected. Applicant must have applied and been accepted into an accredited institution of higher education that offers a degree in the nursing field. Applicant must have high academic and high moral standards. The student must have a cumulative high school GPA of Jay F. Long Memorial Scholarship The family of Jay F. Long established a scholarship in an effort to assist a student in the pursuit of an education beyond high school. This scholarship is awarded to memorialize our son, brother, and friend. It is presented annually to a student who demonstrates the ambition, drive and ability to attain the additional knowledge available through such educational offerings. Criteria considered to determine the winner include living in Orange Township, acceptance and intent to attend an accredited post-secondary school, the applicant's participation in extra-curricular and community activities and academic achievement. The scholarship is for $ to the winner upon proof of acceptance to the post-secondary school and the intent to attend the school in the fall. This scholarship is intended to assist those students who may otherwise find it difficult or impossible to attend the school of their choice. The application provided by Connersville High School along with a brief essay regarding the career goals of the applicant are required for consideration. 49. Jenny Simpkins Memorial Scholarship Jenny Simpkins was a member of the Connersville High School Class of She battled cancer for several years but still maintained an excellent grade point average and was active in extra-curricular activities. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. The Jenny Simpkins Memorial Scholarship will be available to one and/or two seniors who plan to further their education. These scholarships are specifically designed to honor and assist students who have worked hard to successfully overcome adverse circumstances in the same spirit as Jenny did. The Simpkins Family will make the selection. The common application will be used. The essay portion of the application MUST include what adverse circumstances the student has faced, how the student worked to overcome them, and how the adversity helped shape the student s future plans. 50. The Wayne and Ada Stevens Memorial Scholarship The Wayne and Ada Stevens Memorial Scholarship was established for any graduating senior at Connersville High School who will be pursuing a major in the health fields. This student must have a B average or above. Applications will be made by completing the common application form. The recipient will be determined by the scholarship committee. The scholarship will be offered on a yearly basis to a different graduating senior each year in the amount of $1,

17 51. Kappa Kappa Kappa Scholarships Scholarships will be awarded to several qualifying students both male and female. At least one scholarship will be awarded to a candidate who has successfully completed and plans to continue Vocational Training. All scholarships will be based primarily on scholastic record with other factors such as leadership, character and financial need being considered. 52. Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority The Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority has established two, $ scholarships in honor of Joe Glowacki. The recipient is to have at least a B average, have been accepted into an accredited college, and complete the common application. The selection committee will consist of representatives from Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority. 53. Nicole Riggs Simpson Memorial Scholarship/FCF In remembrance of Nicole Riggs Simpson, this scholarship offers assistance to a qualified graduating Connersville High School Senior pursuing a degree in the field of education. Applicant must be a Connersville High School student. Applicant must have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0. Applicant must have applied and been accepted into an accredited Applicant must have high academic and moral standards. Scholarship will be partially based on financial need. 54. Albert and Wilda M. Pearson Scholarship/FCF In remembrance of Albert and Wilda M. Pearson, this scholarship offers assistance to a qualified student who will be pursuing a degree in the nursing field. Applicant must be a Connersville High School student. Applicant must have applied and been accepted into an accredited institution of higher education that offers a degree in the nursing field. Applicant must have a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher. Applicant must have high academic and moral standards. 55. LaRue-Dawson Scholarship Trust The LaRue-Dawson Scholarship Trust has been established to award a scholarship based upon financial need, academic achievement and aptitude. This is to be a renewable scholarship as long as the recipient maintains a least a C average. The common application will be used. 17

18 56. Fayette County Free Fair 4-H Scholarship/FCF The Fayette County 4-H Scholarship will offer assistance to a qualified Fayette County graduating senior. Applicant must have applied and been accepted at an accredited institution of higher education pursuing an associates and/or bachelor s degree. Applicant must be a Fayette County resident and have actively participated in 4-H in home grown and/or homemade projects. While attending an institute of higher education, the student must maintain a GPA of at least a 2.6. Applicant must have high academic and moral standards. Financial need will be a factor and preference will be given to a 10-year 4-H member. 57. Connersville Lion s Club Scholarship The Connersville Lion s Club will sponsor five scholarships of $ each: two academic, (one boy and one girl), two athletic, (one boy and one girl), and the Robert Price Band scholarship to a member of the Connersville High School Band. Criteria will include academic excellence, participation in extra-curricular activities during the senior year and each recipient must be planning to further their education in some way. The common application will be used. Preference will be given to relatives of Lions Club members. 58. Heritage House Scholarship Heritage House will award a scholarship in the amount of $ to a graduating senior who plans to become a registered nurse. Applicants must be a Connersville High School Student. Applicant must have high academic and high moral standards. Student must have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5. Applicant must have applied and been accepted into an accredited institution of higher education that offers a degree in the nursing field. 59. Fayette Co. Master Gardener Assoc. Scholarship Fayette County Master Gardener s Association is offering one scholarship of $ for one school year. The criteria for the applicant are as follows: 1. Applicant wishing to pursue a career in the agricultural field with an emphasis on horticulture, plant science, landscaping or related profession. 2. Applicant must be a senior graduating from a high school in Fayette, Franklin, Union counties or Western Wayne High School. 3. Applicant will attend a technical school, college, or university in Indiana on a two or four year program. 4. Applicant will be a full-time student. Payment will be made upon receipt of written verification of admission. 60. Martha Dorsett Scholarship Fund Established for any graduating senior at CHS in the upper 15% of the class who demonstrates the following: 1. Financial need 2. Acceptance to a 2 or 4 year college program 3. Has a B average in school 4. Has completed the common application This scholarship will be able to be renewed every year the student is enrolled in college and maintains a B average in his/her G.P.A. Payment will be made directly to the Registrar s Office upon receipt of written verification. 18

O Neal, this general scholarship offers assistance to a qualified student who is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Applicant must be a Connersville High School student.
