It accomplishes this through hosting regularly scheduled presentations with interesting speakers, sponsoring special events, and leading preservation efforts for the area sites of historical significance. She shared several comical happenings from growing up in South Texas and as a 30-year member of the State Board of Education. Shown are Mary Helen Berlanga, left, and her sister, Esther Read.
4 A historical marker was dedicated at the Richard and Minerva King House on March 23. It is located at 611 S. Upper Broadway in Corpus Christi. The house currently houses the offices of Dunn, Weathered, Coffey & Kasperitis, P.C. The house was built in 1928 and designed by John M. Marriott of San Antonio. Kilgore History Award Recipients Allison Ehrlich Allison Ehrlich was born and raised in Corpus Christi. She attended school at Windsor Park Elementary, Baker Middle School, and King High School and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Communications Media from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi. She has been the archivist at the Corpus Christi Caller-Times since 2007 and joined the Caller-Times Editorial Board in She writes a weekly Throwback Thursday column on Corpus Christi history. She previously worked as a library assistant at La Retama Central Library and at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi's Mary and Jeff Bell Library. Allison has been married to Eric Ehrlich for more than 10-years and they are parents to a 4-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son. Jeff combines knowledge of the South Texas cultural environment with thirty-years of experience in public television production. The Texas Historical Commission recognized his documentary on the 1914 Nueces County Courthouse with its award of excellence, and his numerous other works are also award-winning. Jeff lives in Corpus Christi with his wife of 31-years, Suzie, an elementary school librarian, son Paul who is attending Texas A&M University Kingsville s Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy, and son Nathan, a Kaffie Middle School student. Kathryn Wemer After retiring from Corpus Christi Independent School District with over 36- years teaching American and Texas history, Kathy elected to continue in the classroom as a substitute teacher. Outside the classroom she continues to docent at the Centennial House to include private tours of the residence, speaking on various history topics for organizations, and researching and coordinating the dedication of Texas Historical Commission markers in the city and around Nueces County. She currently serves as Vice President of the Nueces County Historical Society, and in that capacity coordinates the monthly programs of the Society. It s been said that Kathy eats and sleeps history 24-hours a day!
