2 , CA., U.S.A.! AUGUST 15, 2016 CLUB SERVICE Rotarian Shawna Olsen Craft Talk Report by PP Jim Hansen Photo by PP Bill Kersten On August 10, MV Rotarian Shawna Olsen presented a Rotary Craft Talk. Shawna told the audience that she is very active in the community and is actually involved in several businesses. Currently she develops benefits statements and is a full-time realtor working with HomeSmart/ Evergreen Realty. Shawna is married, has a 27 year-old son and, in her spare time, works on unique art projects. CLUB SERVICE "" Singing The Four Way Test The 4 Way Test and singing has become an important part of our meetings agendas and a few years ago I told this story to our club. I feel it might be worth repeating, especially to our newer members: My wife, Margaret, and I were in Colombia, South America, and had ventured to a town called Libano, about 4 hours from Bogota deep in the Andes Mountains. We were visiting our missionary son, Brian, who was teaching English in a local school. We discovered that Libano hosted a small Rotary club of 12 members. The president of the club and his Report by PP George Cooper Photo by PP Bill Kersten wife took us under their wings and we spent 3 days with Libano Rotarians and the climax of our visit was an evening dinner meeting with 100% attendance including spouses plus other town dignitaries. It was held in the home of the club s only woman member. The object of the Libano Rotary Club was to ask us to serve as Ambassadors of Goodwill between our two peoples so that the true picture of Colombia and its people would be portrayed. Another object was to see how well I could sing because after dinner, we played games and I was asked to sing QUOTE OF THE WEEK - AUGUST 15, 2016! a Rotary song. And shame on me, I could not remember the verse of a single Rotary song..so what to do? Then it dawned on me why not sing the Four Way Test and that I did. Most of the audience could not understand English but they vigorously applauded my efforts. ( with lots of laughter I might add ). That was 1998 and a Friendship Exchange between our two clubs and between District 4290 and 5320 was created. Yes, Rotary is fun! "I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him." - Abraham Lincoln! PAGE 2
