2 2007 ANNUAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION CONFERENCE Are you new to preservation and want to learn about the issues and how to get involved? Are you active in preservation but looking to re-energize yourself and community volunteers? The Texas Historical invites you to changing faces, HISTORIC PLACES the 2007 Annual Historic Preservation Conference April at the Lakeway Inn and Conference Center. From the serene setting of Lake Travis, get ready for three days of workshops and sessions focusing on how historic preservation benefits the people, places and economies of Texas. Conference partners Preservation Texas and the Texas Historical Foundation will host special evening events on Thursday and Friday. Take a tour of nearby historic Wimberley, with stops at the Wimberley House, Wimberley Mill Race State Archeological Landmark and the Bella Vista Ranch. Learn how to restore aging wood windows or document museum collections. Participate in dynamic sessions geared to creating vital local preservation organizations and engaging volunteers. 2

BUS TOUR: HILL COUNTRY HISTORY ON THE VINE Thursday, April 12, 1 5 p.m. This tour winds through the scenic Texas Hill Country in air-conditioned comfort to historic Wimberley. Our host will be the Wimberly Institute of Cultures, owner of the Historic Wimberley House. A walking tour of the old Wimberley Mill Race State Archeological Landmark will be included. Finally, the tour stops at Bella Vista Ranch to tour olive orchards, sample award-winning olive oil and wines while viewing the beautiful scenery of the Blanco River Valley. Reservations required. Cost: $30. WORKSHOPS: Workshop A. Knowing What You Have: An Introduction to Documenting Museum Collections Thursday, April 12, 2 5 p.m. Know what you have and where it is stored. Understand the importance of collections care and learn how to properly document artifacts. This workshop will teach all the basics of caring for your museum collection. Workshop B. Window Pains: Restoring Wood Windows Thursday, April 12, 2 5 p.m. Get advice and see hands-on how to restore wood windows from a professional window restorer. Find out how even when a window looks bad, it can be fixed! Cost: $25 per workshop For CHC Chairs Only FREE SPECIAL WORKSHOP Thursday, April 12, 2 5 p.m. Fundamentals for County Historical (CHC) Chairs Whether you re a new CHC chair or have been active for years, this workshop will provide training on how to lead an effective organization. The Texas Historical is the state agency for historic preservation. The THC s mission is to protect and preserve the state s historic and prehistoric resources for the use, education, enjoyment and economic benefit of present and future generations. DETAILS Lakeway Inn and Conference Center 101 Lakeway Dr., TX / HOTEL RATES AND DEADLINES $85 per night for a single or $110 for a double room, plus applicable state and local taxes. These are special conference rates only available until March 11 or until the room block is full. The Texas Historical Foundation, a member-driven, not-for-profit foundation, has proudly served Texas communities through historic preservation and education funding since The foundation publishes Heritage magazine and participates in a number of historic preservation collaborations.
