To confirm the minutes of the 57th Annual General Meeting held on at 9.00 a.m. at Bhaikaka Bhavan, Law College Road, Ahmedabad. 2 To approve and adopt the 57th Annual Report (Year ) and Audited Accounts for the year ended 31 st March, Annual Report and Audited Account are placed on website of Gujarat State Centre. The corporate member can visit this website and those wishing to have any information or ask any question are requested to send their questions to the Hon. Secretary on or before so as to enable him to keep details ready. 3 To appoint the auditors for the year and to fix their remuneration for auditing charges. 4 Any other business that may be brought forward with the permission of the Chair. 3 PROCEEDINGS AND MINUTES OF THE 57 th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING HELD ON 27th November, 2016 Minutes of the 57 th Annual General Meeting of the Institution of Engineers (India) Gujarat State Centre held on at a.m. at Bhaikaka Bhavan, Law College Road, Ahmedabad. Shri S. J. Desai, Chairman, Gujarat State Centre, presided over the Meeting. The Chairman, calling the Meeting to order welcomed all the members present and there after business on the agenda was transacted. Item '0' The Chairman announced with deep regret the passing away of the esteemed members of the fraternity who have passed away during the Session. All the members paid homage to the deceased. The messages of condolence were sent by the Centre to their respective bereaved families of our corporate members. Item 0.1 Before start the meeting Chairman took oath for Swachhata Abhiyan for all corporate members present in the meeting Ek Kadam Swachhata Ki Ore Gandhiji believed cleanliness next only to Godliness, let s pledge today 2 convert cleanliness into a national passion. MINUTES: Item No. 1: To confirm the minutes of the 56 th Annual General Meeting held on 25 th October, 2015 at 9:00 a. m. at Bhaikaka Bhavan, Law college Road, Ahmedabad. It was resolved that minutes of 56 th Annual General Meeting held on 25 th October, 2015 be considered as read and confirmed. Item No. 2: To approve and adopt the 56 th Annual Report (Year ) and audited Accounts for the year ended as on 31 st March, It was resolved that 56 th Annual Report and Audited Accounts for the Year ended as on 31 st March, 2016 copies of which were circulated to the members, be unanimously approved and adopted. Item No.3 To declare election result for the post of the Chairman and Hon. Secretary for the session and The Chairman reported that Shri S. B. Vasava FIE, Secretary, Roads & Building Deptt., Govt. of Gujarat, as the Chairman and Shri H. U. Kalyani, FIE, Superintending Engineer, Rajkot Irrigation Project Circle, Rajkot, Narmada Water Resources Water Supply and Kalpsar Department Govt. of Gujarat, unanimously elected as the Hon. Secretary of Gujarat State Centre for the sessions and during the 7 th Committee Meeting of Gujarat State Centre held on 16 th October, Item No.4 To Note the report of the Election as members of the Gujarat State Centre Committee from Engineering Division for the year and The Chairman read out the report of the Board of Scrutinizers regarding the Election of Gujarat State Centre for the session and The following members were declared elected uncontested against respective Engineering Division Seats for the GSC Committee for the session and The result of Election of Corporate Members (Division wise) to the Committee of the Gujarat State Centre for the Session & is as under:

Two quotations were received from SMJ & ASSOCIATES of Rs. 8000/-, second MOHIT MEHTA AND COMPANY of Rs /-. It was resolved to appoint the auditor SMJ & ASSOCIATES, chartered accountants as auditor for the year with annual fees of Rs 8000/-. There was no any other item with the permission of the chair so meeting was ended with thanks by the chair, Ahmedabad Hon. 9 VIII. COMMITTEE MEETINGS: Total 6 State Centre Committee Meetings were held during the year. A major thrust was given in organizing various technical activities from time to time. Accordingly several such activities were organized during the year covering advancement in various fields of Engineering IX ANNUAL SESSION: The 57 th Annual Session of The Institution of Engineers (India) Gujarat State Centre was held on 27 th November, 2016 immediately after Annual General Meeting at Bhaikaka Bhavan, Law College Road, Ahmedabad. Two Memorial Lectures and distribution of Merit Medals to bright students passed out in the year from Gujarat was also held. Dr. Rajulben K. Gajjar, Vice Chancellor, Gujarat Technological University, Chandkheda, Ahmedabad was the Chief Guest and Shri Navin B. Vasoya, President-Elect, The Institution of Engineers (India) was Guest of Honor during this session. Shri S. B. Vasava, Secretary, Roads & Building Deptt., Govt. of Gujarat was installed as Chairman of the Centre for the session & Shri H. U. Kalyani, Superintending Engineer, Rajkot Irrigation Project Circle, Water Resources Deptt., Govt. of Gujarat took over as Hon. Secretary of the Centre for the session & Shri S. S. Rathore, Past President, IEI & Chairman & Manging Director, SSNLL were also remain present. Welcome address was given by Shri S. J. Desai, Chairman, IEI, Gujarat State Centre. Chairman outlined the activities performed during last year & programmes planned to be taken up to make the Centre vibrant and emphasized the necessity of taking up membership drive. President-Elect, IEI Shri Navin B. Vasoya gave brief introduction of IEI, its activities and urged students who passed out recently to join IEI. Medals were distributed at the hands of Dr. R. K. Gajjar Chief Guest and Shri Navin B. Vasoya Guest of Honor to the meritorious students. Dr. R. K. Gajjar Chief Guest also while appreciating the gesture of IEI to award medals to meritorious students expressed the hope that this would ignite the fire in other members present and would result in declaring more number of medals. Recollecting his association with engineers with Gujarat State Centre during 31 st National Convention of Civil Engineers and celebration of Foundation Day of Gujarat State Centre. There were two Memorial Lectures one is Shri R. R. Anada Memorial Lecture on Textile Engineering was delivered by Prof. Pradhyumnsinh Jhala, Research Advisor, NID, PG Campus, Gandhinagar on Automation in Textiles : The mills of future and second is Prof. B. M. Jani Memorial Lecture on Structural Engineering was delivered by Prof. Paresh V. Shah, Dean, Faculty of Technology, CEPT University, Ahmedabad on Sustainable Structural Engineering Both lectures were nicely presented by speakers by power point presentation and were useful & informative particularly to student, academics & professionals. Shri H. U. Kalyani, Hon. Secretary thanked Chief Guest, Guest of Honor, both speakers for memorial lectures and everyone for attending and making the programme successful. Visvesvariya on 15 th September Shri Sunil Shah, Chairman, Gujarat Knowledge Society delivered a lecture cum presentation on the theme Skill Development for Young Engineers to Reform the Core Sector: Vision Speaking at the occasion he said there is tremendous pressure in restructuring global economy by means of global flow of goods, services and knowhow, when some industries decline as well as new avenues of opportunities get created. This is turn creates the demand for rescaling of those redundant workforce as well as skill updation and training and development to promote new skills for those newly employed in new industries. He further said that it is heartening to see that our country is churning out more than a million engineering graduates year after year through various engineering degree and diploma institutions. The number is fine, but where do we stand in quality vis-à-vis the world? When we have the advantage of demographic dividend, the same should not be got lost. Education and skill development has to go concurrently with the employment generation. Today, Engineers need to reinvent the zeal of innovations by digging in to our past and create winning innovative sustainable solutions for the future. Knowledge fusion is also an emerging methodology to improve organizational knowledge creation ability that has been introduced to construction industry as by dynamically transform implicit knowledge and explicit knowledge of an organization. To promote technology fusion, it is essential to have a structured way with clear goal, concept and strategy. Governments across the states have taken some initiatives to address the major challenge of scaling up disparate skill development initiatives of different departments. Within a short span of time of less than ten years, a lot of skilled manpower is need to be developed, required by the market driven approach. The requirement of skilled manpower in all the major sectors of the country is not only a matter of national urgency, but also it is increasing in scale. However, Government of India has set a target to impart the necessary skills to 500 million people by the year The five sectors, which are identified with the expectation to create majority of employment are infrastructure, auto, building and construction, textiles and transportation. Now, like other employment sectors, shortage of required skills is one of the major constraints for the pass out engineering cadre for continuing growth of Indian economy. Different employer surveys addressed this knowledge gap and emphasize upon analysis and development of the classified skills for improved productivity. In manufacturing, IT, infrastructure, power sector, engineers play a crucial role. In different real life situations, there arises unmet demand of skilled manpower. Different national and international bodies have carried out survey and analysis on this growing aspect of engineering fraternity and expressed concerns about the skills and knowledge at all level of workforce. As per the analysis of employer s feedback, specific skills can be categorized as core employability skills, communication skills and professional skills. Shri S.J.
