2 Onsite Sign-in There will be onsite sign in for the course on Friday afternoon starting at 11:00 AM at the Lodge s conference room. You will receive your printed textbook and course program at that time. Sign-in is required so that we have an accurate record of your attendance for CME credits. Course Materials The textbook is available at the awls.org website as a digital download. You will be ed a registration confirmation with the password to access the download. You will receive a hard copy of the AWLS textbook at the time you sign in for the course. The printed and e reader version of the textbook is also available for purchase from our publisher Amazon.com, if you would like a copy of the text shipped to you in advance of the course. Course Description Learn the skills to prevent medical problems, reduce suffering and save lives in non-traditional medical settings Earn your Advanced Wilderness Life Support certification Learn the latest practical hands-on wilderness medicine skills for patient assessment, treatment and evacuation protocols Practice your skills in live scenarios Taught by leading experts Earn a maximum of 20.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) Course Objectives To provide a practical foundation in Wilderness Medicine for medical professionals To teach patient assessment and treatment guidelines for life support until definitive care or evacuation is available To train the provider in methods for managing medical and trauma emergencies and urgencies in the wilderness when evacuation is unavailable or unnecessary. To teach techniques and guidelines for evacuation Students will be divided into groups for the hands-on teaching sessions. These groups will be chosen based on personal choice as is feasible. Please plan on spending 1 to 2 afternoons attending the hands-on teaching curriculum. You must hold a medical license (MD, PhD, Nurse, PA, Paramedic, EMT, second year or later student) to certify in AWLS. We also require that you have completed a BLS or CPR certification at some time in the past.

4 Education Information & Area Activites The Joe Dodge Lodge is located on the Appalachian Trail in the in the heart of Pinkham Notch, and is surrounded by the White Mountain National Forest Pinkham Notch has been a hub for hiking, climbing, snowshoeing, and skiing on the Presidential Range of the White Mountains since the 1920s. With access to Tuckerman Ravine and the Wildcat Range just outside your door, Joe Dodge Lodge provides the perfect opportunity to tackle more challenging terrain while offering beginner hikers, climbers, and skiers a chance to practice their skills. Transportation Pinkham Notch is located in New Hampshire in the heart of the White Mountains. There are 3 major airports in the area including Portland International Jetport (about 82 miles; 2hr drive via ME Rte 113), Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (about 134 miles; 2hr30min drive via I-93N, or Logan International Airport (about 162 miles; 3hr25min drive via I-95N and NH-16. Most major rental car agencies have locations at all 3 airports. Shuttle service from the airport is limited. Clothing and Other Equipment Weather in Northern New England in the fall is unpredictable though generally warm during the day (average temperature in the high 50s to mid 60s) and cool at nights (30s- to 40s) and so a range of clothing is recommended. Rain is always possible in the fall so bring rain jacket/pants and warmer clothes. Plan to bring any personal outdoor equipment that you may need for your outdoor activities.
