2 Key Concepts of Public Health and Tropical Medicine What are the issues now for Australia and our near neighbours? What does the future look like? Public health protects and improves the health of individuals, families, communities, and populations, locally and globally. The greatest advances in healthcare this century have stemmed from public health initiatives, sanitation, immunisation, infection control, and the management of communicable diseases to name a few. At this conference, we will not only explore the core concepts of public health and what the issues are now for Australia and our near neighbours we will also investigate what the future will look like. We will gain an understanding of remote health care delivery as we visit our colleagues at various locations in PNG and reflect on the implications for our own practice in Australia. The Conference is being held aboard the P&O Pacific Aria as we sail to Papua New Guinea. Delegates will have the fabulous opportunity to explore the public health issues facing our near neighbour as we visit our colleagues at a number of health services during the optional shore tours at Alotau, Kitava, Rabaul, Kiriwana Island, and Conflict Islands. The sessions are provided as a mixture of face to face sessions (FF), selfdirected reading material (SD), and recorded webinars (W). The webinars and the self directed reading material are provided to attendees prior to the commencement of the conference. The attendee can view the webinars prior to the commencement of the conference as a self directed CPD activity or the session will also be presented at the conference as per the program and the attendee can view the session in the conference room with a course facilitator present.
