1 PAEDIATRIC FEEDING AND DYSPHAGIA WORKSHOPS Paediatric Feeding and Dysphagia: The Basics Saturday 29th June 2013 Topical Issues in Paediatric Feeding and Dysphagia Sunday 30th June 2013 Keidanren Auditorium Royal Children s Hospital Level 5, Woolworths Building Herston Road, Herston, Queensland Cost: $150 (inc GST) per day. $275 (inc GST) both days. Paediatric feeding and dysphagia management is becoming an increasingly specialised area of practice for therapists. The workshops Paediatric Feeding and Dysphagia: The Basics and Topical Issues in Paediatric Feeding and Dysphagia will provide an opportunity for therapists to hear about the latest literature in paediatric feeding and dysphagia, and review current resources. A special focus on practical demonstrations will be provided, as well as panel discussions. These workshops assemble some of the foremost experts on paediatric feeding and dysphagia management from Australia and the United States, including,, Jeanne Marshall, and Nadine Frederiksen. WHO SHOULD ATTEND These workshops are targeted at paediatric speech pathologists and occupational therapists working in health and disability services. Day 1 (Paediatric Feeding and Dysphagia: The Basics) will provide basic level information for therapists with minimal experience in the area of paediatric feeding and dysphagia, as well as for those who have not practiced in this area in the last 3 years. Day 2 (Topical Issues in Paediatric Feeding and Dysphagia) will provide intermediate-advanced level information for therapists with recent experience in feeding and dysphagia management, as well as for those who have attended the Basic workshop. RESOURCES All participants will be provided with notes applicable to the workshops that they attend. REGISTRATION Registration fees and workshop outlines are provided on the pages following. 2 PRESENTERS Pamela has worked clinically with children with feeding and swallowing problems for over a decade at the Royal Children s Hospital in Brisbane. Pamela is a Queensland Health - Health Research Fellow and is actively involved in research with children with feeding difficulties. Her research is based on-site at the Royal Children s Hospital and Royal Brisbane & Women s Hospital, where she supervises a number of honours, masters, and PhD students. Pamela is the founder and lead clinician of the Healthy Eating Learning Program (HELP) Study. Pamela regularly presents at scientific conferences, and she teaches courses and workshops on managing paediatric feeding problems for students and practicing health professionals both nationally and internationally. is a paediatric speech pathologist and specialises in the area of infant and childhood dysphagia. Memorie completed her PhD through the University of Memphis, and is the Manager of Speech Pathology Services at LeBonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis in the United States. Memorie regularly attends and presents at professional development events in the area of paediatric dysphagia. Jeanne Marshall Jeanne Marshall is an experienced speech pathologist with specialist skills in paediatric feeding and dysphagia who works at the Mater Children s Hospital. Jeanne is currently completing her PhD in the area of feeding difficulties in children with autism spectrum disorders as part of the HELP Study. She is a recipient of the QCMRI/RCHF research scholarship through the Queensland Children s Medical Research Institute based at the Royal Children s Hospital in Brisbane, Queensland. Nadine Frederiksen Nadine is an advanced practice occupational therapist who has worked with infants and children in the community and at a tertiary level in Australia and the UK. She has worked at the Royal Children s Hospital for ten years. She specialises in working with infants and children with feeding difficulties. Nadine is a research clinician and honorary research consultant with the HELP Study. Children s Health Queensland is proud to host this workshop. Any profits from these workshops will be used to support research into childhood feeding difficulties.

5 Venue Information: The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) is located in the Brisbane suburb of Herston, on the corner of Bramston Terrace and Herston Road, which is approximately a 10 minute drive from the city centre. The main entrance to the hospital is on Herston Road. Parking: If you wish to drive to the RCH, there are a number of on-street and secure, off-street parking options available to you. On-street parking is available along Herston Road and Gilchrist Avenue. Time limits and parking meter fees may apply along these streets. Off-street parking close to the RCH is provided by three independently owned and operated care parks: 1. Bramston Terrace Metro Car Park Entrance on Bramston Terrace (off Herston Road), adjoining the RCH via a walkway. 2. Butterfield Street Metro Car Park Entrance on Butterfield Street, behind the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. 3. Wilson Car Park Corner of Gilchrist Avenue and Herston Road. Bus: Buses travel to and from the city along Bowen Bridge Road and the Inner Northern Busway (INB) opposite the RCH on Herston Road.
