2 Before you apply please read the following information: To be Eligible: You must be a student enrolled in school full-time for the semester preceding the summer of 2011 and you must be returning to school full-time in September Proof of enrolment (a letter from your Registrar s office) must be provided at the time of interview. Students previously employed by the City of St. Catharines must also re-apply to be considered. How to Apply: You must APPLY ON-LINE for any these positions by visiting our website at and selecting the Employment Opportunities link. All available positions will be listed on our Career Search page. You must apply separately for each position. Once you have completed an application, the screen will indicate that your application has been received. A confirmation notice will be sent to the address you listed. Only those selected for interview will be contacted and invited to attend. Selection Dates: Position Date Time Aquatics Sunday, May 1, 2011 Time is T.B.D. Carousel and Harbour Saturday, March 26 th Noon - 4:00 Will be held in February and early March 9:00 4:00 General Qualifications for ALL Aquatics and Carousel positions are: Standard First Aid CPR, Level C with AED High Five Principles of Healthy Childhood Development Available to work shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays Current valid Police Waiver 2
3 Position Duties and Requirements: GENERAL Maintenance Positions: Location Days Hours Monday Friday Victoria Lawn Cemetery May September 2nd 8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Horticulture 7 day a week operation May September 5 th (two shifts) 6:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. / 2:00 p.m. / 10:00 p.m. Sports Parks 7 day a week operation May September 5 th (two shifts) 7:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m. 11:00 p.m. Responsibilities: Must be available to work ALL shifts including evening shifts and weekends Must be willing to report/work from any of the maintenance depots throughout the City (including City owned golf courses, beaches, parks and the cemetery) Horticulture and sport field maintenance duties: grass cutting, weeding, watering, debris pick-up. Qualifications: Must have CSA approved safety footwear Must have physical ability to lift, work outdoors, operate various gardening equipment and work independently with minimal supervision Must be available to work full-time (40 hours/wk) commencing May through September 5th, Clerical Responsibilities: Respond to inquiries by the public at the counter and on the telephone Open and process departmental mail Prepare various correspondence and memos Process payments and fees, balance and prepare deposits Filing, data entry, faxing and miscellaneous clerical duties. Qualifications: Must have excellent computer skills Must have customer service and cash handling experience Preference will be given to those enrolled in Administrative Studies Program Must be available to work full-time (35 hours/wk) commencing in May through September 2 nd, Water Meter Reader Responsibilities: Obtaining water meter reading inside residences/businesses and record water usage readings on meter cards; audit serial numbers and meter size where applicable Leave notice cards as required Organize meter cards and submit to administrative staff for processing Must be willing to workday and afternoon shifts. Qualifications: Must have CSA approved safety footwear Must have physical ability to climb stairs, enter small or cramped spaces, stand, bend and walk for extended periods Must have Valid Class G Driver s Licence and knowledge of St. Catharines City streets Must be available to work full-time (35 hours/wk) commencing the beginning of May through September 2 nd,
4 AQUATICS Aquatics Support Staff Responsibilities: Maintain a safe, fun and enjoyable aquatics experience for all guests Complete cash duties effectively and efficiently Set-up, clear up, cleaning, customer service and incident response of the aquatic facility Participate in pre-season and in-service training Assist with special events and facility promotion. Qualifications: Must have SFA, CPR Level C with AED, High Five Bronze Cross, NLS, Red Cross and Lifesaving Instructors an asset. Lifeguard Responsibilities: Supervise and maintain a safe, fun and enjoyable aquatics experience for all swimmers Promote water safety at all times to all swimmers Ensure overall safety of guests, including accident prevention and treatment of injuries Maintain the cleanliness of the aquatic facility Participate in pre-season and in-service training Assist with special events and facility promotion. Qualifications: Must have current SFA, CPR Level C with AED, High Five, NLS. Instructor Lifeguard Responsibilities: Supervise and maintain a safe, fun and enjoyable aquatics experience for all swimmers Teach all swimming program levels as required Promote water safety at all times to your students and guests Ensure overall safety of guests, including accident prevention and treatment of injuries Maintain the cleanliness of the aquatic facility Participate in pre-season and in-service training Assist with special events and facility promotion. Qualifications: Must have current SFA, CPR Level C with AED, High Five, NLS, RC/LSS Instructors. Head Lifeguard Responsibilities: Direct and supervise all lifeguards, instructors and support staff at the aquatic facility Ensure the implementation of a safe, enjoyable and diversified aquatics program and experience for all swimmers Teach all swimming program levels as required Assist with special events and facility promotion Participate in pre-season and in-service training. Qualifications: Must have current SFA, CPR Level C with AED, High Five, NLS, RC/LSS Instructors, Aquatic Supervisory Training. Recreation Assistant Aquatics Programs (Supervisory Position) Responsibilities: Organize and oversee all aspects of pool operations including child and adult lessons, specialty and leadership classes General administration and staffing responsibilities Ensure overall safety of guests, including accident prevention and treatment of injuries Provide assistance and leadership in planning, coordination, promotion and implementation of special events Work closely with Recreation Coordinator, Recreation Supervisor, other City Departments and outside organizations Participate in pre-season and in-service training. Qualifications: Current enrolment in a University/College Recreation and Leisure Studies program and/or a related field Previous supervisory experience in an aquatic setting is preferred Must have current SFA, CPR Level C with AED, High Five, NLS, RC/LSS Instructors, Aquatic Supervisory Training Excellent communication, public relations and organizational skills Must be able to work independently Strong commitment to quality customer service and teamwork Must have valid Class G Ontario Drivers Licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes Good computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word,Excel and Outlook Available to work from May to September. 4
5 CAROUSEL / HARBOUR Guest Services Carousel Responsibilities: Maintain a safe, enjoyable and diversified carousel experience for all guests Participate in pre-season and in-service training Assist with special events and facility promotion Maintenance, set up, clean up, operation of the Carousel, cash duties and incident response. Qualifications: Must have current SFA, CPR Level C, High Five Season: part-time hours commencing April to mid-june, full-time hours mid-june to September 5th and weekends to October Harbour Attendant Responsibilities: Maintain a safe and enjoyable atmosphere at the harbour Participate in preseason and in-service training Assist with special events and promotion Set up, clean up, cash duties and incident response. Qualifications: Must have current SFA, CPR Level C, High Five, and successfully pass Swim Competency Test Season: part-time hours commencing April to mid-june, full-time hours mid- June to September 5 th, Carousel Team Leader Responsibilities: Maintain a safe, enjoyable and diversified carousel experience for all guests Direct and supervise all Carousel/Harbour staff at the carousel facility Participate in pre-season and in-service training Assist with special events and facility promotion Open and close the facility, maintenance, set up, clean up, operation of the Carousel, cash duties and incident response. Qualifications: Must have current SFA, CPR Level C, High Five Previous supervisory experience is preferred Cash experience and excellent customer service skills Season: part-time hours commencing April to mid-june, full-time hours mid-june to September 5th and weekends to October Recreation Assistant Lakeside Park Carousel (Supervisory Position) Responsibilities: Organize and oversee all aspects of Carousel operation including general administrative and staffing responsibilities Provide assistance and leadership in planning, coordination, promotion and implementation of special events Work closely with Recreation Coordinators, Recreation Supervisors, other City Departments and outside organizations.
