1 JANUARY 2018 Newsletter/Monthly Mailer Chamber-ACM Education Partnership Provides Resources to Local Businesses he Bedford County Chamber of Commerce and Allegany College of Maryland recently announced an exciting partnership which will bring considerable educational opportunities to the business community of the Bedford County region. Through business development training, Ask the ACM Expert sessions, quarterly health and wellness events, and placement of Business Management interns, the College will provide in-kind educational programs to the Chamber, its members and the business community valued at nearly $110,000 over a five-year period, beginning in January The educational programs offered by the College in partnership with the Chamber as part of the Russell House Business & Education Center project will directly correlate with the Chamber s organizational mission. We are thrilled to enter into this extremely valuable partnership, said Tim Weaverling, Chair of the Chamber Board of Directors. The training opportunities, access to professional consultations and other elements of the agreement will allow the Chamber to better serve our members and the community, and take our educational offerings to the next level. ACM President Dr. Cynthia Bambara added, The partnership also enhances Allegany College of Maryland s vision of being the college of choice that transforms lives, strengthens communities, and makes learners the center of everything we do. Training sessions will be offered by College faculty and experts with a long history of providing quality educational programs through the credit, continuing education and workforce development sectors of ACM. They will be held bi-monthly beginning in January with a workshop about the FISH Philosophy of Customer Service, to be presented by Wayne Blue, ACM Director of Workforce Development and Training for PA and Adjunct Faculty, Business Administration. (See pg. 3) In addition to the formally proposed partnership elements, the Chamber anticipates additional collaboration with ACM through other Chamber and Bedford County Chamber (Educational) Foundation programs and events could not have asked for a more comprehensive or creative proposal, said Weaverling. The relationship between the Chamber and Allegany College of Maryland is paramount to the success of students in our region and the future of our workforce, and this partnership News Conference December 4th solidifies our common goal of providing valuable educational programming to students and adults of our region. Together, the Bedford County Chamber of Commerce and the Bedford County Campus of Allegany College of Maryland can enhance the educational opportunities that are available to the members of the Bedford County Chamber of Commerce, to entrepreneurs and small businesses utilizing the Russell House, and to the community at large through the Russell House educational partnership, said Leah Pepple, ACM Director, Pennsylvania Advancement and Community Relations, who will serve as the college educational coordinator for the partnership. This project will help transform lives and strengthen the local community. Programs related to the educational partnership begin in January Visit the Chamber website for details regarding upcoming programs: BedfordCountyChamber.com FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK, TWITTER & INSTAGRAM

A reception will precede the program in the Russell House beginning at 5pm. 3 Russell House Partners in Education Business Workshop Tues. Jan. 30th Bedford Elks C.C. The Fish Philosophy - It s Not a FISH Tale The FISH Philosophy of customer service is about a fish market where the energy is so infectious, business people spend their lunch hour just watching the action and absorbing the energy. The World Famous Pike Place Fish Market has not always been such a place. Years ago, the dreariness of long hours, smelly fish, and cold lockers was reflected in the workers attitudes. By changing the attitude they bring to their work, the fishmongers at Pike Place have created a totally different environment for customers, vendors, guests and fellow workers. Fish is old wisdom for each new day. It reminds us of what we often forget when we re busy, stressed-out and self-absorbed. Fish behavior often starts with one person and attracts others. When a community of people commit to it together, the effect is powerful, creating a higher quality of life at work and home. It s called The FISH Philosophy PLAY BE THERE MAKE THEIR DAY CHOOSE YOUR ATTITUDE Wayne M. Blue, Executive Director Allegany College of Maryland s Pennsylvania Center for Workforce Development and Continuing Education Wayne Blue has as BS degree in Business Administration from Robert Morris University and MS degree in Industrial Relations/Human Resources from St. Francis University of Pennsylvania. He has been involved in workforce development and continuing education for over 40 years and has been with ACM for the past 17 years. He has presented a variety of seminars throughout the tri-state area of Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia on topics such as: Customer Service using the FISH Philosophy, The Power of a Positive Attitude, Time Management, Dealing with Diversity in the Workforce, Conflict Management, Communication Skills, Project Management and Supervisory Skills. 11:30 am Lunch 12:00-2:00 pm Workshop $30 Per Person Discount: $25 for 2 or More from the Same Company Corporate Sponsorships: $250 (Includes 6 registrations, marketing benefits) Register by Calling the Chamber Office: Or Online: BedfordCountyChamber.com FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK, TWITTER & INSTAGRAM
