2 POOL CONCESSION STAND 2018 The City of Slater is accepting applications to run the concession stand at the pool for Chosen applicant will: pay the city a minimum of $750 rent due in installment payments. will NOT be a city employee, but will contract lease the space from the city. apply and pay for necessary permits and sales tax. hire, manage and pay their own staff staffing must be adequate to handle demand. buy all supplies and keep all money from sales. be open for all high school and Nite Hawks baseball games as well as all open swim pool hours and swim team events. May be open for little league if desired. (swim lessons and pool parties not required) To apply: serve the concession stands minimum required menu - additional items are certainly welcome. you must be 18 years of age. you must submit a letter of interest to the city outlining a sample menu, bid amount and any qualifications, related work history and 3 references. The Slater Municipal Pool is currently taking applications for Manager s (Due March 1st) Lifeguards (Due March1st) And Bathhouse (Due March 1st) Applications are available at Slater City Hall or go to and print one off. Must be at least 15 years of age to lifeguard, and 14 for bathhouse. Slater Easter Egg Hunt Sponsored by the Slater Community Club and Friends of the Slater Public Library Saturday, March 24th 10:00 AM Toddlers 3rd Grade Meet at the Log Cabin in Nelson Park Don t forget to stop by the Library for your prize and the Book and Bake sale Plan accordingly 2 chipping days this year. Monday-April 23nd 3-6pm And Monday-October 15th 3-6pm This is your chance to spruce up those trees and bushes....branches /limbs (NO Leaves please) need to be dropped off at public works lot located at the corner of 1st Ave and Green St Save the date H&W Recycling will be coming through Slater this year on June 30th. 8am noon This is a chance for Slater residents to get rid of old appliances, mowers, and electronics. ANNOUNCING! Our new book The Great War Slater and Story County in World War One. A 48-page book recording the many stories and photos exhibited in the outstanding display of the war, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the war and the armistice. 5 Easter Egg Hunt & Spring Book & Bake Sale 105 N Tama Hours: M-TH 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Fri. 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sat. Soup and Sound Lunch Join us on Friday, March 2 for an introduction to Japanese Taiko by Tanis Sotelo. All ages are invited to experience Japanese culture through the Art of Taiko. Taiko drums are traditional Japanese instruments used in festivals and musical performances around the world. Learn about the different styles of Taiko drumming, and how the drums are used in popular festivals in Japan and the US. A free-will lunch will be served starting at 11:30 a.m. with the program starting at noon. On April 6 author Craig Bishop will discuss the remarkable life of famous baseball player and Iowa native, Billy Sunday. Free Programs Soup and Sound Lunch- First Fridays 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Yoga - Mondays and Thursdays at 9 a.m. Storytime - Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. Early-Out Program - Wednesdays from 1:30-3 p.m. Book Club Thursday, March 15 and April 19 at 10 a.m. Coffee Fridays at 10 a.m. The Friends are working with the Community Club to plan Slater s Easter Egg Hunt and will also kick off their Spring Book and Bake Sale. The Easter Egg Hunt will be at the Log Cabin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, for toddlers-3rd graders. The Book and Bake Sale will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday and then continue Monday through Wednesday during regular library hours. Book Club For March the book club will read the Agatha Christie Classic Murder on the Orient Express followed by the viewing of the new movie. Book discussion will take place Thursday, March 15 at 10 a.m. with the movie to follow at 11:00 a.m. Overview: Just after midnight, a snowdrift stopped the Orient Express in its tracks.
