Your commitment and time is greatly appreciated and we are looking forward to the fruit of the labor soon. For those who missed the last meeting it is not too late to join a team. With the warm weather we are experiencing this winter, it really feels like Spring and Summer activities are just around the corner, and we are seeing a nice amount of activity around town. I personally get very excited when I hear or see some remodeling going on in some closed business locations. It is usually a sign to welcome a new business member to the area. Please stop in at some of this locations and meet these wonderful folks. Please remember to take advantage of our awesome tools on our website, create your traffic catcher site and possibly even set up an online store right through our portal. Post your events for free and advertise for very small fees. Check it out and see instructions in this newsletter on how to get started. In the next few weeks we have some exciting Chamber and community events on the schedule, don t miss out on a lot of fun at the first ever 285 Barrel Stave Downhill, the PCACC Chances Scholarship Silent Auction including Shop Local cash drawing, and the add on mixer at Mountain Peace Boutique. Make it a lucrative month, Marcel Flukiger Ribbon Cutting at Gypsy Diner in Delwood Square immediately after general meeting. February Business of the Month: Cutthroat Café Cutthroat Cafe offers the quintessential American country breakfast. Chip Thomas opened the doors of the Cutthroat Café 9 years ago.

The breakfast options are traditional and there is something for everyone. The burgers, soups and specials always taste homemade and are served with a smile.

2 February Business of the Month: Cutthroat Café Cutthroat Cafe offers the quintessential American country breakfast. Chip Thomas opened the doors of the Cutthroat Café 9 years ago. Since then, he s become a favorite among the locals, whether they come in to get a bite or for some coffee and conversation. Menu fare at the Cutthroat is simple and delicious. The breakfast options are traditional and there is something for everyone. The burgers, soups and specials always taste homemade and are served with a smile. Because the Cutthroat Café is right on the way to many mountain outdoor activities and destinations in Park County, Chip says he is busiest between Memorial Day and Labor Day. He s up by 3am and at the café by 4am during the summer to serve breakfast to the early birds. While Chip gives credit to the travelers and outdoor recreation enthusiasts for staying busy, he says that it is the locals that keep him in business. He prides himself on being a restaurant focused on family and friends. The Cutthroat Café is more of a community center than a restaurant, said Chip. As for the Bailey community, Chip is happy with the direction he sees Bailey going. I am excited for new businesses to open up and I think we re on the right path, he said. I m a proud member of the Chamber and I thank everyone for doing their part in promoting local businesses and growing the commerce in the community, said Chip. WELCOME TO OUR NEW CHAMBER MEMBERS! We now have a fully-functioning Facebook business page that is updated on a daily basis. Please visit the Chamber Facebook page by searching for Platte Canyon Area of Commerce in the search bar at the top of the Facebook program. Click the Like button. Once you like the page, it will say Liked with a check mark (like the page above). Hover your mouse over the Liked box and check Show in News Feed. Once liked, you will receive updates from the Chamber including reminders for General meetings, photos, events and much more! If you have a Facebook account, please find the page and like. If you do not, maybe consider starting one to join in on the fun! The administrators of the Facebook page have started an album entitled Platte Canyon Area Businesses. Visit the local businesses in your community, they will check off their box on your entry card, once you've frequented 20 businesses, mail your card in and be entered to win cash prizes. The drawing for winners will be held at the PCACC mixer on 3/17 at Rustic Station (Rustic Square in Bailey) from 4-6:30pm.

From the PCACC homepage, click on Member Login button on the bottom left portion of the page. Login with username & password. Once logged in, scroll down to the red and white button that says Manage Website. Click on it. Follow the prompts and fill in your business information (this will be used to create your website, so make sure info is accurate and up-to-date). Once you have filled in all of your contact information and the services that your business offers, you are able to pick and choose which features you d like to enhance your website with. There are Branding, Broadcasting & Social Networking tools, among many others, that will help you build your webpage. 285 BARREL STAVE DOWNHILL The 285 Optimist Club, a non-profit with the mission to Bring Out the Best in Kids in the communities along the Hwy 285 Corridor, is hosting Colorado s first ever 285 Barrel

5 285 BARREL STAVE DOWNHILL The 285 Optimist Club, a non-profit with the mission to Bring Out the Best in Kids in the communities along the Hwy 285 Corridor, is hosting Colorado s first ever 285 Barrel Stave Downhill (a non-ski, skiing event) on Saturday, February 23 rd, 2013 at the Jefferson County Open Space Meyer Ranch Park on US Hwy 285 in Conifer, Colorado. The event will allow would be and avid skiers alike to test their skills in an unconventional and fun skiing event. The legend goes that prior to modern day skis, European villagers would disassemble old wine barrels and use the staves (the wooden planks used to make the barrels) as skis, affix an open toe type of footing on each, and tie a short rope from one ski to the other for steering; creating the Barrel Stave Skis. Legend also tells of great times when the villages would hold Barrel Stave Downhill (BSD) contests and festivals to enjoy the winter days on the slopes with their friends and families. The Optimists are recreating this event in the foothills communities of Jefferson County, Colorado, in a place where the people of the US Highway 285 locales often meet for winter fun on the natural Open Space. The event will be open to the public with no required admission fee. Donations, entry fees and other suggested contributions from the event will benefit the Youth Programs of the 285 Optimist Club and the local schools.
