7 7 DRUG DISCOVERY & DEVELOPMENT FOOD FOR HEALTH DIGITAL HEALTH The University of Auckland is widely regarded as New Zealand s leading biomedical research institute, with several groups being well recognised internationally for specific expertise. The Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre is such a group, being a centre of excellence in oncology drug development. Speakers from the centre will be covering some of the compounds in current development, this includes a chemotherapy and a colony stimulating factor for the correction of the immunosuppression characteristics that cancer tumours exhibit. Furthermore a world leading researcher in organic and peptide synthesis will be speaking on the development of drugs from her laboratory to clinical trials. Therapies for Rett syndrome, Fragile X syndrome and Traumatic Brain injury will be covered in addition to her experiences developing cancer vaccines. The Food for Health session will cover a diverse range of topics from the use of technology in NCD prevention, public private clinical partnerships and fundamental nutrition research programmes that have the ability to affect health outcomes and global food industry trends in the near future. Attendees can expect to learn about globally significant clinical research programmes and its outcomes, along with snapshots of featured research programmes in China and around the world. 8 8 ADVANCED MATERIALS AND MANUFACTURING ALUMINIUM SMELTING TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION PARTNERING SESSION Experts from Universities, research institutes and industry will showcase their latest advancements in advanced materials research and development which will include areas of bio-based composite materials, novel surface coatings, materials for renewable energy applications and climate adaptable materials for infrastructure. In addition to the development of the materials, advanced manufacturing techniques will also be discussed including the University of Auckland s world leading work on increasing scalability and quality of composite materials production and integration of Industry 4.0.
