This year s banquet again celebrates agriculture by recognizing outstanding farmers and ranchers in four areas: Senior Farmer/Rancher Junior Farmer/Rancher Service to Ag Special Ag Operations. Agricultural Humorist Damian Mason will be the featured entertainment. Thanks to generous business sponsorships, the banquet is offered at no charge to farmers/ranchers, but you must RSVP to Carrie at by March 10. The cost to all others is $45/person unless your business was a Silver, Gold, or Platinum sponsor. Those businesses are allotted a certain number of seats, but they still need to RSVP. National Ag Week Is March F E A T U R E D M E M B E R Thank you to the following major agriculture businesses: Aqua Tech, Inc., Crop Production Services, Elite Kubota, H&E Equipment Services, Kamp Implement, L.F. Dairy, Inc., Moodie Implement Company, New Holland of Belgrade, RDO Equipment, and Rocky Mountain Supply Company. Most of the agricultural services for the valley are right here in Belgrade. They provide jobs and bring people from all over Montana to our community. There are also many other service businesses that are tied to Belgrade s agri-business sector. In addition, Farm Fair planning and preparations are in full swing! Business Promotions: The committee is formulating plans for the 2014 Customer Appreciation promotion. If you would like to help or have ideas, meetings are the second Wednesday of the month at 7:30 am at the Broadway Café. Customer Appreciation Day is set for May 17! Economic Development: The committee was honored to have Ted Barkley, the new Belgrade City Manager, at their meeting. Belgrade economics were discussed. Ted gave us his goals for economic expansion. The first quarter business tour will be at the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport at Gallatin Field. Membership Services: The first class of Building Belgrade is winding down. With only 2 months of classes left and then the class project in May, everyone is looking forward to the new class, which will start in September. A committee of class members and the Membership Services committee will begin that process in May (also see article on page 5). President s Circle: The committee members are going to form a Belgrade Community Foundation where people can give donations and leave bequests in their wills. The money would be used for community needs. Tournament: The District 5B and Central A Divisional basketball tournaments were just completed. The State B Combined Girls & Boys tournament will be March at MSU. Volunteers are always welcome. Transportation: Jackie Flikkema is the new chair of the Transportation Committee and will be having a meeting in April. *Meeting times and locations are shown on the Calendar (p. 12). Fundraiser Tickets Available The Belgrade Chamber has tickets available for two upcoming fundraisers. The first is the Bandits Casino Night on Saturday, March 22, from 6:00-10:00 pm at the River Rock Community Center. Tickets are $25 each and include dinner, one drink ticket, and $1000 in Casino Cash. You must be 18 or older to play poker and bingo. The other fundraiser is for the Belgrade Panther Booster Club Annual Auction. The auction is Friday, April 4, from 6:30-10:00 pm at the GranTree Best Western. 5 Building Belgrade Working together in the spirit of unity; discovering our past, defining our present, and shaping our future to create pride, commitment, and loyalty among leaders in the Belgrade area. Building Belgrade is a 9-month leadership program that benefits employers, participants, and the Belgrade community. Sessions begin in September and end with a final project in May. The classes are on the 2nd Thursday of the month (except for holidays) and are from 10 am- 5 pm. The orientation and final day are from 9 am-5 pm. Sessions are held around the Belgrade community; each session focuses on a topic critical to Belgrade s success: Value to Employers: History Youth Government Community Public Safety Jobs Transportation Roots Team. Grooms leaders who will contribute to your company Provides professional networking opportunities Helps employees develop personal vision and confidence Creates positive internal public relations Imparts new knowledge about the Belgrade community to employees. Value to Participants: Provides greater understanding and a broader perspective of key issues in Belgrade Encourages networking between emerging and established members of the Belgrade community Increases understanding of community needs and appreciation of the role community history plays in current decision-making Motivates participants to seek out leadership roles in their communities and workplaces. Fees: The tuition for Building Belgrade is $295 for Belgrade Chamber of Commerce members and $395 for non-members. Tuition is nonrefundable. Full payment is due to the Belgrade Chamber by August 2. Application Information: Applications must be submitted by July 5 to the Belgrade Chamber at 10 E. 7 Executive Message Recent Renewals It has been a whirlwind of activities with even more to come! Thanks to all of you who attended our Annual Dinner at the Holiday Inn Express. Although it was cozy to say the least, it was great to have our event in Belgrade and the food, drinks, and company were excellent! We have heard rave reviews about the ventriloquist; thanks again to NorthWestern Energy, Republic Services of Montana, Knife River, Inc., and First Interstate Bank for making it possible for us to bring him in. We look forward to a little space management next year, but the entertainment will be hard to top! Welcome to Ted Barkley, our new City Manager, who has been on the job for a few weeks. We really look forward to working with Ted on economic development and other issues. Make sure you take a look at the calendar (p. 12), as March is filled with activities. Their 2 hour Customer Service class introduces students to the basics of successful customer service, a necessary skill in the workplace. Students learn to appropriately and successfully interact with customers. The class is available on an individual basis or for a group of employees from a business. A business is welcome to request specific skills that are required by their individual workplace environment. The instructor is the highly-qualified Michele Letendre. Her experience includes working with VISTA and 16 years with the Bozeman Area Chamber of Commerce where she gained extensive experience in marketing, business planning, customer service, and volunteer coordination.
