2 Dear Candidate, Thank you for the interest you have shown in the role of Institutional Partnerships Officer. This is an exciting time to be part of the CARE International (CI) confederation and in particular CARE International UK (CIUK). CI is an organisation that fights poverty and injustice in the world s most vulnerable places. We work to save lives in disasters and conflicts with programmes that stand alongside women, girls and their communities to achieve lasting change for a better future. How we will fulfil our mission is detailed in CI s new Global Programme Strategy for The Institutional Partnerships Officer is a new role that is a key part of the CIUK s enhanced engagement with UK based trust and foundations. You will be the core resource to expand our trust and foundations portfolio to support our programming in its own right but also enable access to larger grants and profile. We are looking for someone who is motivated by the prospect of ambitious targets, who has excellent understanding of, and a strong track record of successful relationship building and bid winning with UK trusts and foundations. This role s primary focus is to expand CARE International UK nascent trusts and foundations portfolio and to support key research across our institutional donor portfolio. Coordination and tenacity are key skills in this role and the ability to work well with multiple touch points across the organisation to establish effective working relationships with key contacts across CARE. 3 Background Information CARE International a global organisation fighting global poverty CARE International operates in more than 90 countries around the world. We run povertyfighting programmes and deliver life-saving aid in 79 developing countries. This work is supported by global policy and advocacy work, fundraising, and programme management provided by CARE offices in countries like the USA and the UK. CARE International UK CARE International UK was founded in 1985 and we are one of 14 full members of the global CARE International federation. We employ 120 staff and generate around 50 million a year for CARE s poverty-fighting work. As well as supporting CARE s humanitarian and development work around the world, CARE International UK provides specific expertise in the areas of women s economic empowerment, inclusive governance, humanitarian response (particularly shelter, and gender in emergencies), and engaging with the private sector. We also play a key role in CARE s work engaging with and influencing policy-makers and decision-makers to tackle the structural causes of poverty and social injustice. CARE s programmes are implemented through CARE country offices which are supported with technical assistance and programme management by CARE members (including CARE International UK). We work in partnership with local organisations to deliver many of our programmes. You can find out more about our current strategy here The Institutional Partnerships Team Team Mission The Institutional Partnerships Team works strategically and up stream to ensure that CARE International UK is positioned as a partner of choice for partners and grows its market share IPO Trusts & Foundations Page 3 of 11 October 2017

4 from key public funders (DfID, EU, ECHO, DEC, Big Lottery Fund and Comic Relief etc). The team has a core focus on public funding growth and delivering the key ingredients to deliver that growth in line with our strategy. The team provides leadership, knowledge, skills and connections to position CARE as an expert, innovative programme partner across our programme strategy priorities. The team supplies the Programme Management Team with opportunities, information and tools necessary to win more of the right bids and develop new relationships with new funders/stakeholders. The team acts as a strategic knowledge and learning hub and will work closely with other key teams within CIUK and the wider CARE to support their multiplying impact objectives through strategic donor cultivation and engagement strategies. The team is helping move both CIUK and CARE into a priming role for major contracts and will design the programmatic and MEAL practices, systems and processes necessary for success. The team supports major bidding efforts where necessary and helps to negotiate resources and solutions. We also lead on small bids to provide both match and unrestricted programme funding. Above all, the team is moving CARE into a consistent active position with the key public donors and programme partners so that our opportunities for funding and influence grow significantly over the next ten years. Key Team Responsibilities Lead the strategic development of key UK donor strategy and engagement across CIUK and CARE. Grow our public income and provide the necessary internal approach and landscape that will allow CIUK to win more bids and deliver programmes that will bring long term impact and good rates of overhead recovery. Position CARE with Contracts and Finances and partners as a go to partner for our Programme Strategy priorities ensure we are showcasing the right content with the right people so that we are positioned favourably for winning the business we want to win. With our new Global Programme Strategy in place, there are clear opportunities to strengthen our institutional relationships and help CARE International reach its ambitious multiplying impact objectives. An essential part of strengthening these relationships is that CARE International UK is seen as a leader in developing evidence based learning and can show evidence of impact at scale. Success in these areas is seen as the foundation for developing a high level of trust in CARE International UK and positioning us for taking on larger and new contracting opportunities. Job Summary A key strategic priority for CIUK is to increase its market share with key European donors and diversify its funding base. With our new Global Programme Strategy in place, there are clear opportunities to strengthen our key funder relationships and help CARE reach its ambitious multiplying impact objectives. Institutional funders are of key strategic importance to our work. Alongside the DfID and Key Donor Partnership Managers, this role will increase programme income and the effectiveness of fundraising strategies with small to medium foundations and trusts. The post holder will facilitate CARE s impact at the field level by securing project based funding; raise CARE s organisational profile; develop new partnerships; and grant manage international donor funded programmes. In addition to close working with programme funding colleagues in the programme management teams ensuring that they are going for the right opportunities with the best possible bid submissions, the post holder will also work closely with the Advocacy and Global Technical teams to support their work. 70%-80% of this role will work on the full fundraising cycle involving intelligence gathering; data analysis; designing engagement and positioning strategies and opportunities; briefing and representation; writing and submitting proposals, and managing a portfolio of small to medium contracts. The 30-20% remaining time will support the research and knowledge management functions of the IP Team covering MEAL, contracting and partnership needs. The post holder will agree with the IPM Key Donors which funders are the key priorities and allocate effort accordingly. Within the FY17/18 period the post holder has a relatively small target as this trust and foundations portfolio is only just being developed. To understand the return on investment of this role it is expected that person will be instrumental in successfully bringing in income of around: 70,000 unrestricted 120,000 restricted 3. Specific Areas of Responsibility Small Medium trusts' portfolio development and cultivation up to 80% Use standard search methods and tools to identify potential new partners for inclusion into the stewardship programme. 8 Develop, implement and administer stewardship programme for small to medium trust and foundation donors. With the Institutional Partnerships Manager Key Donor regularly review the strategy to maximise and renew income from trusts and foundations, and successfully execute a rolling programme of applications. Drafting, submit and successfully manage the progress of all fund applications for priority projects and work with colleagues across CIUK to develop strong cases for support within required deadlines. Liaise directly with key contacts in trusts, foundations and grant making bodies to establish important dates and criteria in order to strengthen applications. Produce, submit and manage all communications with target funders within the agreed timeframe including regular reports. Working collaboratively with other CARE staff to produce necessary communications and reports as appropriate. Establish and monitor progress of applications, including working to agreed KPIs and ROIs, and provide financial reporting and other management information on a timely basis to the IPM KD and Head of IP. Represent CIUK externally by promoting the work of the CARE Confederation and developing productive relationships with external stakeholders Research and Knowledge Management up to 15% Developing and maintaining trust, foundation and grant records on Raisers Edge and PIDB databases. Development of project summaries and capacity statements. Lead on maintenance and further development of donor contact database. Use standard search and analysis methods/tools in relation to donor trends and funding environment determined by IPT Support awareness of the UK donor landscape through updates and profiles on our target donors within CIUK and the wider confederation by posting regular updates on CARE s intranet or other CARE information sharing platforms. Support IPT on other critical research needs as required. Other up to 5% Contributing, as and when relevant and agreed with Head of IP, to the activities of the organisation, including occasional attendance at functions outside of normal working hours. 10 Person Specification Essential Desirable Education / Qualifications Degree or equivalent relevant qualification Qualification in fundraising related discipline Skills / Abilities Outstanding relationship builder and networker both internally and externally Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and good, accurate typing skills Excellent telephone manner and able to communicate effectively with a range of callers Able to tackle challenges constructively, and find creative ways forward Strong project proposal management and organisational skills, and the ability to work to tight deadlines. A proven track record in writing successful high value fundraising proposals that secure significant donations from institutional donors and trusts and foundations. Excellent proposal writing skills with high attention to detail and the ability to turn complex project/technical and/or organisational information into a compelling case for support. Excellent written and spoken English to engage effectively with a wide range of technical donor audiences. Experience / Demonstrable experience of maximising Understanding opportunities from researching prospects to generating meetings, and securing income to achieve targets Substantial proven experience working successfully in a fundraising position in the development/humanitarian or similar sector, preferably with a focus on trusts/foundations and public sector income streams, securing 5- figure donations.
