3 Workshop Maximising Value in Marginal & Brown Fields Cost Management September 2015, Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside, Putrajaya, Malaysia Workshop Description Many countries across the globe are striving to maximise their energy resources. As larger oil and gas field reserves get depleted, managing these assets is a tough challenge in face of increasing complexity and uneconomic conditions. This has shifted the focus by these countries to revive declining brown fields or relook at unattractive marginal fields. Marginal fields are those hydrocarbon resource accumulations that do not generate sufficient positive net value to be economic. They are generally associated with small pockets of oil or gas that can only be commercialised for development under favourable technical and economic environments. Brown field resources on the other hand are those fields which have undergone development and production. They will continue to play a key role in the industry in view of the substantial remaining resources which cannot be exploited based on existing technology or costs. As demand for energy continues to grow, oil and gas practitioners are often challenged and asked whether marginal and brown fields will continue to be the area of focus in the coming year. Is it worth for us to focus on developing such fields in view of increasing cost and technical challenges? How are we going to manage the cost and schedule effectively in developing these resources? Do we have adequate technologies to handle the challenges and risks in developing these assets? Are we ready to challenge ourselves? Let us come together to join this workshop to discover the latest approaches, discuss ideas and network with your industry colleagues. Workshop Objectives This workshop will serve as a platform for consolidating ideas and concepts, such as technical or commercial best practices, lessons learnt, and approaches and technologies deployed in managing the cost and schedule to develop marginal and brown fields. Experience networking with industry colleagues and information sharing on initiatives, failures and successes, along with panel and breakout group discussions.
