2 A LETTER FROM THE Vice Chancellor Dear Student Affairs friends, parents and alumni, East Carolina University s Division of Student Affairs operates with a guiding belief that every student deserves the support and encouragement needed to reach their full potential. Pirate Nation is nearly 29,000 students strong and ECU plans to continue its growth in the years to come. As our numbers increase, our commitment to providing opportunities for success must grow too. This commitment to student success is the reason that we have chosen to recognize successful emerging leaders, outstanding former student leaders and corporate supporters at the fifth annual 40 Under 40 Leadership Awards Banquet. On March 23rd, Student Affairs, in collaboration with the ECU Alumni Association will honor former student leaders, including 40 Pirate alumni, who are making a difference in their professions and in their communities. This event has grown so much in the first four years and with the opening of ECU s new Main Student Center serving as the host site, we expect it to grow even stronger. Consisting of eight units and 27 departments and offices, the Division of Student Affairs and its more than 300 educators are truly where the student experience is created. If it s outside the classroom, Student Affairs is there to support our students. From new student orientation to living in the residence halls, or from playing intramural sports to joining one of our 475+ student organizations, and all the way to preparing a resume for that first job interview, Student Affairs has an undeniable impact on fostering student success.
