(Philippians 2: 9-11) THE NATIVITY OF SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST John the Baptist was called from his mother s womb. The annunciation of his conception to Zechariah in the Temple and the naming of the child with the name provided by God point out that God had a special mission for John to fulfill. When Mary visited Elizabeth, Elizabeth exclaimed, The baby in my womb stirred when we heard the sound of your voice. Today s feast points out that from the first moment of his life, John was an integral part of God s plan. Another prophet, the greatest of the Old Testament Prophets, Elijah, would meet with Jesus and Moses on the Mountain of the Transfiguration to discuss God s plan. The last book of the Old Testament prophets, the Book of Malachi, says that Elijah would come again to prepare the way for God s plans. The Synoptic Gospels, Matthew, Mark and Luke, say that John the Baptist is Elijah come once again. God s plan for man s salvation was first revealed by the prophets. It was set into motion when Mary agreed to be the mother of the Son of God at the Annunciation, and it was announced to the world by John when he proclaimed in his preaching that Jesus was the Lamb of God. But the plan is not complete. Nor have all the players in God s great drama assumed their roles. The plan will not be complete until the entire world embraces the Kingdom of God. Godparents must be practicing Catholics, age 16 or older, have already received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist, and, if married, married in accord with Catholic Church Law. Matrimony: Diocesan Common Policy requires nine to twelve months advance notification of the priest or deacon and attendance at marriage preparation. Please call the Parish Office to make arrangements. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) - Mondays at 7:00 p.m., September through Easter. Please contact the Parish Office for information. Visitation of the Sick: Please notify the Parish Office when a member of the Parish is in the hospital or if someone is unable to attend Mass and wishes to receive Communion. Persons with Celiac Disease: It is necessary for validity that hosts for Mass must be made of wheat. An alternative is to receive the Precious Blood. At any weekend Mass, please let the celebrant know and we will have a chalice prepared for you to receive Holy Communion. 5 Holy Name of Jesus Parish PARISH NEWS & ACTIVITIES MEALS ON WHEELS is currently in need of substitute volunteer drivers. Meals are delivered to the elderly and homebound in the Lower Paxton and Susquehanna Township areas Monday through Friday mornings, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Delivery routes are usually 2 hours or less. Holy Name of Jesus Church is assigned one week a month to supply drivers for this program. As a substitute driver, you would be contacted if an assigned driver is unable to deliver. This would usually only be at the most one day a month and as much notice as possible would be given.
