11 Chips remaining for next week's drawing: 8 Program Kiwanis Program - 8 Oct 16 Speaker: Club Leadership Change Ceremony Scribe: Matt Harris In the annual tradition, the outgoing and incoming club leadership, officers and directors, were recognized in an elaborate and not-so-solemn ceremony emceed by top-hatted Benny Nasser. Following opening remarks by Benny, the costumed MHK Band (ably led by Jerry Losey) entered to the strains of "When the Saints Go Marching In," followed by the announcement and entry of sitting club President, Rich Strom.

12 Benny remarked that part of Rich's success as the club president could be attributed to the "key to success" that Rich was presented upon assuming his post in 2015, yet that "key" could not passed on to Rich's successor as it appears to have been lost to the ages. Rich was deemed a presumptive "Order of the Frog" inductee, but he would have until the end of the month to locate the "key to success" and avert induction into the Order. Rich made several final remarks as President and, as a parting gift, was presented a "Danger Strom Warning" sign as small token of appreciation for his service. RF Smith, the President elect, was announced and joined Benny at center stage, wearing an elaborate flight suit and carrying a guide on the club rules, by-laws and policies. As is required, the President elect was challenged with four questions from club members, asked by Jo Carroll, Gary Reed, Pat Losey, and Charlie Brown. In order, RF was asked (in Spanish from by Jo) "What does SCP stand for?" "Which past club President served for more than 12 consecutive months" (Gary) "Name 3 of 5 venues the club has met over the last 20 years" (Pat), and "How many past presidents have been named Bill or

13 William" (Charlie). RF answered these important questions with varying degrees of success and, deemed to have met the challenge, was presented the "Staff of Authority" by Benny. Following the band's exit, the ceremony took a slightly more serious tone. Kathy Lee (Rocky Mountain District Governor,) Rich Strom and Barb Broshous joined RF on stage and RF received the club President's pin from Rich. Barb received the President elect pin from RF, and Rich received the past-president pin and patch. Kathy Lee then swore in the new leadership and the board and directors were called forward to be recognized and also sworn into office.

14 RF then made a few remarks as the club President, stating his focus will be on continuing to serve the youth and our community, while also working to increase club membership, enhance the volunteer spirit, and continue to have fun as a group. He remarked that the club continues to be about four different things: a business, a charity, and a group that thrives on both fellowship and fun. Finally, Rich was called back up to receive a final gift: a six-pack of Pikes Peak IPA and membership to the Craft Beer Society, after which the ceremony came to a close. All in all it was a fun ceremony, and a fitting transfer of club leadership for the new year! Happy Trails! See you Saturday at:
