Lettering What qualifications must my child meet in order to letter for the Pope Football Program?
Lettering To letter your child must: Have been a part of the program for two years and/or played in a varsity game.
Work Out and Practice Attire Wear Pope colors: Shorts & Shirts - Navy Blue, Carolina Blue, Gray, White or Pope issued apparel
The Role of the Parent In regards to the football program, what is the role of the parent?
The Role of the Parent Be positive with your child make your child believe that they can achieve anything and that mediocrity in life is not acceptable The parents of the program will develop a positive image in the community with continual reinforcement. Forget the past do not allow the events of the past to affect the movement toward the future.
The Role of the Parent The parents of the program will eliminate negativity about the program before it has an opportunity to become rampant. Total commitment the parents of the program must continually stress the importance of being leaders, following the rules of the team, and attending all practices and training sessions.
The Role of the Parent Sacrifice the parents of the program must set aside all selfish wants and preferential desires for the betterment of the program. Be supportive of the coaches i.e. Social Media
The Role of the Parent Playing time is notdiscussed outside the program. 24 Hour Rule The purpose is to allow cooler heads to prevail in a situation. (i.e. enjoy a win; agonize over a loss) Open Door Policy my door is always open to you and to my players.
Academics What kind of support can you expect from the Pope Football Program in regards to academics?
Academics Academics come first. No pass no play. Players who are not willing to put forth great effort in the classroom are developing bad habits for the future. In the Fall, players have four opportunities during and immediately after the school day to make-up assignments, get tutored, take tests, etc. (i.e. X-Block, AO (2), Thursday afternoons)
NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE
Recruiting As a parent, what do I need to know?
Recruiting What is an FBS school? Football Bowl Subdivision 120 Teams (i.e. Georgia, Florida, Florida State). SEC, ACC, BIG 12, etc. FBS schools offer scholarships What is an FCS school? Football Championship Subdivision -124 Teams (i.e. Mercer, Samford, Harvard, Princeton) FCS schools offer scholarships
Recruiting What is a D-II school? (i.e. Valdosta State, Delta State, North Alabama) D-II schools offer scholarships What is a D-III school? (i.e. LaGrange College, Huntingdon College, Birmingham Southern College) D-III schools do not offer scholarships D-III schools offer academic merit
Recruiting What is an NAIA school? National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Completely separate from the NCAA (FBS, FCS, D-II, D-III) NAIA schools offer scholarships
Recruiting What is an offer? The offering of a scholarship to a player. *Nothing is binding until a letter of intent is signed. What is a scholarship? A grant or payment that is made to support a student s education. *Athletic scholarships are reviewed yearly.
Recruiting What is the difference between academic merit and a scholarship? A scholarship is money awarded for excellence in athletics. Academic merit is money awarded for academic excellence. *Both are providing student-athletes with avenues to pay for their college education.
As a parent. What role do I play in recruiting?
A Parent s Role Make sure your son comes to school Make sure they are presentable when they come to school (i.e. Limit collegiate wear, no clothing that may be seen as offensive, no clothes that advertise alcohol, etc.) Be supportive in the process (i.e. college wants you to visit GO!)
As a player. What do I need to do?
A Player s Role Stay awake in class Treat each visit like a mini job interview Treat every school like they are your favorite (the you never know policy ) Firm handshake, look the man in the eye, and SPEAK UP! Be polite (i.e. yes sir, no sir, etc.) Be humble
Recruiting and Camps What is a camp or a combine? This is an opportunity for you to showcase your skills. Activities include, but are not limited to: 40 yard dash, Pro shuttle, 1 on 1s, Bench Press, L- Drill, etc. How many camps should my child attend?
Camps Camps are a good thing, but they are not the only thing. Be selective and choose the ones that are going to genuinely fit your needs. One day camps are perhaps the most beneficial for high school players and the most cost effective.
Recruiting and Social Media Most college programs now have a graduate assistant who follows current and prospective players on social media to see what you are doing. Be very careful as to what you put on social media even if deleted, it never goes away. When in doubt, use the Mom rule.
