4 Task Force on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion It is the aim of the university to create a diverse and inclusive campus as the necessary foundation to our institutional mission. President Casey and Dean Hucks launched a Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion earlier this semester, and the ongoing work of this task force has been organized into a number of working groups, including: Working Group on Inclusion in the Lives of Students Working Group on Inclusion in the Lives of Faculty and Staff Working Group on Campus Climate Working Group on Responsiveness Working Group on Strategy, Vision, Leadership, and Accountability The work of the task force serves in addition to and in concert with existing university structures as well as individual effort toward our shared aspirations. In addition, the ALANA Affairs Board has taken responsibility for examining DEI programs at Colgate. The aim of these groups is to produce recommendations that can make a meaningful difference on our campus, and for these recommendations to form the backbone of a comprehensive and ongoing plan for diversity, equity, and inclusion at Colgate. The Steering Group for this overall project, led by the President and Provost, has recommended that the working groups continue their efforts into the next academic year, and given the ambitions for these efforts to become part of the ongoing life of the campus, there is plenty of time for employees to get involved. Members of the community with an Colgate interest in contributing to this work are encouraged to reach out to Tamala Flack (tflack@colgate.edu).

5 Sexual and Intimate Partner Violence Coalition April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The newly recognized Sexual and Intimate Partner Violence Coalition would like to invite you to get involved and learn more about sexual assault education and prevention initiatives at Colgate. Introducing the Sexual and Intimate Partner Violence Coalition: The Sexual and Intimate Partner Violence Coalition (SIPVC) was formed in the spring of 2017 following the opening of Haven, Colgate University s sexual assault response center, in October of During the academic year, students joined with faculty and administrators to develop the plans for SIPVC after recognizing a need for enhanced sexual assault response and education on campus to compliment Haven s clinical treatment services. As a coalition of individuals with diverse perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds, SIPVC serves as a resource for campus-wide initiatives focused on sexual assault prevention and education. The coalition works with on-and off-campus partners in efforts to decrease sexual violence and provide survivor-centric practices for those who experience violence. SIPVC members recognize that ending sexual violence at Colgate is not only the mission of one department, but rather a campus effort. The SIPVC was recently recognized as an Advisory Committee to the Dean of the College, Dr. Paul McLoughlin. Currently, over twenty students, staff and faculty from a variety of disciplines are involved with the SIPVC. The Coalition meets monthly, and members serve on subcommittees that work on action items and initiatives between meetings. Subcommittees include: Programming and Calendar: Seeks to bring together all of the individuals on campus that are programming in areas related to sexual violence prevention for coordination and to avoid similar/repeat programming and scheduling conflicts. Aims to critically examine our own communities and responsibilities as individuals, provide education resources, and ensure that all educational work is being done under a survivor -centric/supportive model. Communications: Creates transparency for the Colgate community, across various media, as to what the SIPVC is, what it offers, what it strives to become and who is involved. Works to provide information to the community about sexual assault response and education programs and initiatives that are happening. Assessment: Reviews the assessment process and findings to ensure accountability and improvements needed on and off campus. Curriculum: Strives to foster awareness among faculty about the ways in which sexual violence affects our intellectual mission and to engage faculty in conversations and pedagogical workshops that will consider strategies for acknowledging and addressing the realities of sexual assault in our classrooms and curriculum.

LGBTQIA/POC Focus: Recognizes distinctions and intersections between LGBTQIA and POC experiences. Acknowledges that a history of exclusion of people of color, queer and trans people of color, and individuals who identify as LGBTQIA from dominant narratives and resources on campus. Serves as a space to rethink efforts and outreach on campus that are not serving all of our students and challenging the power and privilege that shapes those gaps. What you can do: The SIPVC would like to invite you to get involved in campus initiatives to end sexual assault and relationship violence. As a reminder, most Colgate staff are mandated reporters. April is also a great time to brush up on your role and responsibilities in reporting incidents of sexual violence. Read more about Title IX and the Equity Grievance Policy here. All faculty and staff can learn to be better resources to students by participating in an online training titled "Bridges: Building a Supportive Community available to you through LawRoom in the Portal. Additionally, SIPVC, Haven, Shaw Wellness and The Network have planned several events and programs for Sexual Assault Awareness month, a few of which are listed below: April 5th: Annual Take Back the Night March at 6:30 p.m. starting outside of Frank Dining Hall. April 11th: On-campus Survivor Support Brown Bag at 11:30 a.m. with Director of Counseling and Psychological Services and Sexual Violence Support, Dr. Dawn LaFrance, Professor of Sociology and Women s Studies, Dr. Meika Loe and Mariam Neal 18 at the Center for Women s Studies. April 19th: Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) and Off-campus Reporting Resources Brown Bag at 11:30 a.m. with Investigator Dennis Dougherty (NYS Troopers, Campus Sexual Assault Victims Unit) and Jodi Brandis (SANE) at the Center for Women s Studies.
