We offer services to students in all disciplines, every year of university and continue to support U of A alumni. CaPS offers a wide range of services from career exploration, resume writing, interview skills, networking tips and events, finding work, staying in the loop about career related issues and more. Career Services for Students in Education outlines the different services we offer that will help you get noticed by employers and get the job you want. Watch for our new website launch. 3 Explore your career options with CaPS Get on the right career path with the help of CaPS. There are many career options out there and we can help you explore which ones fit for you by evaluating your interests, goals and future plans. Career exploration can be done anytime in your university career, but it is best to start early. Career Advising Consultation Unclear about your career options? Looking for work? Meet with a CaPS career advisor to learn strategies and resources for exploring and managing your career or finding work that fits your career aspirations. You should not expect to leave your consultation knowing the career you will pursue or with a job in hand. Rather, you can expect to leave with an understanding of what to do next and an awareness of strategies and resources that will assist you in your next steps. (Note: If you require advice regarding your academic program (e.g. courses to take) please contact the appropriate academic program. We do not offer academic advising.) $20/students (pre-register by calling or coming into CaPS, SUB) Brown Bag Lunch Seminars Get some food for thought at CaPS by attending a free Brown Bag Lunch Seminar. 4 Explore your career options with CaPS Career Forums Get ideas for your career by checking out a CaPS career forum and listening to a panel of speakers with a similar educational background talk about their career paths and what they are doing with their degree. 5 Explore your career options with CaPS Resources Visit our Resource Centre and check out a variety of books on career exploration including: Career Opportunities in Education Opportunities in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages What Can I do with a Major in Education? Find Work CaPS provide students with the essential link to employers. We host events throughout the year for students to network and meet with employers who are recruiting. Job Postings With over 3,000 positions posted a year, CaPS has job postings for students in all disciplines and at all stages of their career. The jobs are sorted by faculty. You can access our job postings by visiting our Resource Centre (2-100 SUB) or checking online at Information Sessions Meet with employers and learn about opportunities within their organization. 6 Find Work Career Fairs Career fairs are a great way to network with and meet employers who are recruiting U of A students and alumni. Careers Day Careers Day is the largest career fair in Canada. Meet with 250 employers recruiting students in all disciplines. CaPS offer workshops, seminars and individual consultations that will help you put together a resume and cover letter that will get noticed by employers. CaPS has options that suit everyone when it comes to preparing for the interview - from learning about common questions to practicing in a mock interview. 11 Prepare for the interview Mock Interview Practice is the best way to prepare for an interview so book a mock interview at CaPS. Provide us with a copy of your resume, cover letter and a description of the job for which you are being interviewed and we can develop some targeted interview questions. The mock interview will be taped and played back for you and advice on how to improve your interview skills is provided.
