2 GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE Happy New Year! 2015 holds much promise for Wyoming PBS and for you, as we prepare for: Capitol Outlook a new season of Wyoming legislative coverage. Starting with the State of the State Address from Governor Mead on Wednesday, January 14 (at 10am live, and delayed at 7pm), to the final week in March, our producer Craig Blumenshine will be there with our production team, providing access to our legislators to speak directly to you no filtering, no editing, just information and analysis. It airs on Friday nights at 8pm, Saturday evenings at 6pm, and Sundays at 1pm. Inside Energy news-minutes with reporter Leigh Paterson on energy issues affecting Wyoming, to be included every Sunday in the PBS Weekend Newshour - about 23 minutes into the program. Shakespeare Uncovered this new Shakespeare series premieres Friday, January 30, but look for a Wyoming Chronicle to air on January 23, which promotes our outreach effort A Wyoming Shakespeare Explosion. We received a grant and are partnering with the University of Wyoming to take performances of Shakespeare plays by UW students on the road. Lots of Shakespeare to enjoy! We are also working with the Gillette Cable Access channel to bring you a series about northeast Wyoming titled North by Northeast. They have committed to two half-hour programs a month, which we have scheduled for late on Friday nights. We re also very happy to announce that we received two production grants: $20,000 from the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund, and $2,000 from the Wyoming Humanities Council, to help us produce our next award-winning production: The Blizzard of 49, under the direction of Tom Manning, who produced End of Track and 100 Years on Lincoln Highway. Look for this new production in December 2015! On Tuesday, January 6, FRONTLINE is premiering a program on the NRA and gun rights. Following the premiere, we are rebroadcasting a Wyoming Perspectives program we produced in April 2013, which still has relevance today, to help provide a Wyoming perspective to this national issue. Both programs can also be found online on our website. And of course, the event that everyone has been waiting for: the new season of Downton Abbey, which starts Sunday, January 4. Enjoy! Regards and best wishes for a great New Year! Ruby Calvert General Manager Station Happenings Wyoming PBS recently won two Rocky Mountain Regional Emmy awards for 100 Years on the Lincoln Highway. 15 Underwriter Spotlight Wyoming Medical Center Wyoming Medical Center is a not-for-profit acute care hospital in the center of Wyoming, and has been a Wyoming PBS underwriter for two years. Because of its central Wyoming location, the Center is convenient and easy to access for thousands of people needing medical care in Wyoming. With 189 patient beds, more than 700,000 square feet of space, and 150 physicians on staff, the Center offers comprehensive medical services in a wide range of specialties. The new Center logo resembles a shield, and there is purposeful symbolism in the design. WMC staff protect the health of people who call Casper, Natrona County and Wyoming home and that guardianship is represented by the three sides of the logo s shield. The brown and gold colors honor Wyoming. For more than 100 years, people have come to the Center for the safest and most complete care in the state. WMC continues to respond to community medical needs by building 100,000 square feet of new facilities, including spacious private rooms and a gourmet kitchen. The new logo and improvements say many things, but most of all they say that the Wyoming Medical Center is built around the needs of their patients. Wyoming Medical Center underwrites Masterpiece/Mystery on Wyoming PBS and brings you popular programs like Downton Abbey and Sherlock. So when you see someone on the WMC staff, be sure to say thank you for supporting Wyoming PBS. London and Highclere Castle Casper College and Wyoming PBS invite you to participate in a historical trip of Highclere Castle and London, England. August 2 8, 2015 Dr. Walter Nolte, WWI historian and trip guide, will instruct on the historical aspects of the sites we visit as they relate to the popular PBS series Downton Abbey. We will start with a grand overview of London s most famous sites including those with historical relevance to the WWI era. Experience the essence of the period by spending an afternoon with a Downton Abbey insider, learning the rules of etiquette, explore the culinary history and sample foods served in the early 20th century, and tour Highclere Castle and the village of Bampton. Space is limited. To reserve a spot or for more information, pricing and itinerary, contact Ann Dalton at or adalton@caspercollege.edu. BE MORE...THOUGHTFUL 15
