Visit Day Saturday, September 19, 2015 Friday, September 18 8:00 p.m. Center for the Arts, Auditorium Since joining forces as a professional duo in 2009, internationally acclaimed solo pianists Eva-Maria Zimmermann and Keisuke Nakagoshi ZOFO have electrified audiences from Carnegie Hall to Tokyo, Japan, with their dazzling artistry and outside-the-box thematic programming for one piano four hands. This Grammynominated, prizewinning Steinway artist ensemble one of only a handful of duos worldwide devoted exclusively to piano duets is blazing a bold new path for four hands groups by focusing on twentieth- and twenty-first century repertoire, and by commissioning new works from noted composers each year. ZOFO is shorthand for 20-finger orchestra (ZO=20 and FO=finger orchestra). P.E.O. Visit Day is scheduled for Saturday, September 19. Approximately 80 P.E.O.s from multiple states are expected for this annual event! Our Golden Keys will be giving tours as well as hosting a lunch for our guests. Please help us make our visitors feel welcome on campus. A campus open house is on the schedule for 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. Please note P.E.O.s may be visiting public areas in the residence halls, including the suite common areas.

From the CWL Denise Hedges, director of the Center for Women s Leadership (CWL); Robin Mallinson, CWL secretary; and thirty students attended the first leadership field trip to Tucker Leadership Lab, last Saturday, September 12. It was a physically and mentally challenging day! The students were enthusiastic and engaged throughout the entire process. At the end of the day, they came away with a new understanding of themselves, along with the experience of group decision making, creative problem solving, and effectively communicating with team members. This trip was paid for by the Anderson Leadership Fund which provides leadership activities for students. 5 Spiritual Life & Campus Diversity Fiesta Hispana Erica Sigauke, director of spiritual life and campus diversity, accompanied students to Kansas City to celebrate the Fiesta Hispana event at Barney Allis Plaza on Saturday, September 12. This family event included special activities for children and adults, many Hispanic artifacts for sale, and the celebration of 29 years of showcasing delicious authentic Hispanic food, music, and dances. In addition to the celebration, the Board President for the Greater Kansas City Hispanic Heritage Committee, David Tinoco, spoke about promoting education and also encouraged the Hispanic youth to explore their gifts while having a successful college experience. Our students gained quite lot through this participation. They had experience interacting with various people as well as some of the dancers. Haskell Indian Art Market Rev. Sigauke organized a trip to the Haskell Indian Art Market in Lawrence, Kansas, on Sunday, September 13. This was an educational diversity and interfaith trip that helped our students learn about other cultures as well as to respect and value individual differences. She took students to the market who enjoyed exploring new knowledge and appreciating some of the Native American art and various cultural events such as the Pow-Wow dance. The Market is an annual event held during the second weekend in September each year. This art market attracts hundreds of visitors each year. The market also provides an economic opportunity for Native American artists, as well as encouraging cross-cultural understanding and exchange. Some students had an opportunity to participate in the dances and to taste some of the delicious Native American food such as the fry bread and several other dishes. The trip was an eye opener to our students. Nevada Heartland Rev. Sigauke took a group of students to Heartland Behavioral Health Services in Nevada on Friday, September 4, to teach drumming to some of the youth. This hands-on activity was very exciting and engaging. There was a lot of culture sharing and social interaction while having fun. Sigauke is collaborating with the Heartland community in community outreach programs. This is a great opportunity for our students to participate in and help lead some meditation sessions at Heartland. This program is going to provide great opportunities for our spirituality, diversity, and Interfaith programs. Students will explore some of their gifts while sharing their various cultures with the Heartland community. Some students will be involved in leadership opportunities, planning, organizing, exploring their creative skills, valuing individual differences, as well as appreciating community service and volunteer work. Some students will be able to teach African drumming and also explore what they are learning in the classroom in a deeper way.
