1 July 15, 2017 RCH Honored at Business Appreciation Month Event Five Rooks County businesses were honored at the annual Rooks County Business Appreciation Month (BAM) Dinner held at Wild West Saloon last Wednesday evening. The Kansas Department of Commerce annually honors businesses from around the state for the contributions made to their communities. Over the last 17 years, at least 55 Rooks County businesses have been honored in BAM events. Receiving recognition this year in Rooks County were Plainville Livestock, Tyler s Automotive, Crop Production Services, Rooks County Health Center, and Central Veterinary Services. Shown accepting the RCH Award is RCH Board President, Jeff VanDyke and Chief Financial Officer, Frank Rajewski. Statewide there were 19 Regional winners, with three of those being in Rooks County in In the Non-profit/Hospital category, Rooks County Health Center (RCH) was once again honored with a Regional award. In 2011, RCH not only won a Regional award, but was also honored as one of the five finalist for the Governor s Award of Excellence. Now the largest employer in Rooks County, RCH just recently completed an onsite MRI/Nuclear Medicine suite addition that enabled them to increase services and employment. RCH has been recognized around the state as an outstanding Critical Access Hospital. Crop Production Services (CPS) of Stockton was a Regional Award winner in the Retail category. CPS is a nationwide business, but the location in Stockton is one of their latest expansions. A new office and warehouse was built in the Stockton Industrial Park in 2015, investing over $2 million in Rooks County. CPS offers a wide range of products and services to help Ag producers be more efficient and grow better crops. Central Veterinary Services (CVS) of Stockton was a Regional Award winner in the Service category. CVS was established in Stockton in 1998, and has had several expansions, including an expansion of their practice into Hill City. Their latest expansion of a new facility in Stockton, however, has enabled CVS to grow their business to new heights. In a time when veterinarians are Follow Us on facebook.com/rookscountyhealthcenter and 1

2 in short supply, CVS has been able to attract new veterinarians to help meet the needs of the multicounty area. Tyler s Automotive, also of Plainville received a Merit Award in the Service category. Owners Tyler & Nicole Ganoung took advantage of the former USD 270 administrative building becoming available and expanded their business services and added retail as well. Besides increasing employment as a result of the expansion, Tyler was also able to make their former space available to a new business, Plainville Collision Center. Plainville Livestock was honored in the Service category with a Merit Award. Plainville Livestock just completed an all new building to hold their weekly livestock auctions. This new facility is sure to be a shining star in western Kansas as example of bringing new technology to the livestock auction process. They have also added numerous pens and load outs through the years to improve their services. Owners Ty & Camden Gillum have grown the business into a regional center with 25 employees. The annual Business Appreciation dinner is put on by Rooks County Economic Development as a way to recognize all businesses in Rooks County for their contribution to the local economy. Director Roger Hrabe stated, We really appreciate all the businesses in Rooks County and this dinner is just a small recognition of their investment. Employee of the Month Carmen Brooke was selected as the Employee of the Month for July. She has worked as a cook for RCH since November, She was nominated by Vicki Roberts. Congratulations Carmen! 2
