Robin Echavaria the chairperson for our annual picnic did an outstanding job organizing the picnic as usual. Thank you very much for all the effort and time you spent doing all the things necessary to make it a wonderful day for all of us. I would like to thank all of you that assisted Robin in helping make the flow of the raffle and the door prizes go smoothly. Much Mahalo to our membership for all the great donations that was brought to the picnic. Without all of you, our club would not be so successful. It was a record gathering and I wouldn t be surprised if it will get even larger in the future. Everyone appeared to have a lot of fun; especially the new membership, and of course the kids! I don t believe that anyone was left out and did not win a prize. The dessert contest was a winner again, and even the judges had a difficult time making up their minds because it was all very good. We have a great club and it is all because of our generous membership. We are fortunate to have stewards of our club with the interest of our membership at hearts, who are staunch supporters in making the effort to constantly improve our club. We all work together with a common goal in making the Honolulu Aquarium Society the best that it can be. Any and all inputs are welcomed at any time. Can t wait until next year s annual picnic!! Once again the Annual Fish Show is just a few weeks away. We must cover some of the rules and regulations governing the show. First of all our chairperson for the show is continued on page 3 1

3 continued from page 1 Eric Hayashi. Eric will be the only person making the final decisions on any and all controversies should it occur. We don t expect any major problems, and I am sure we can solve them easily if this does occur. Membership can start bringing in their tanks for setting it on the stand Wednesday, October 7th, from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM and on Thursday, October 8th, from 8:00AM - 9:00 PM. On Friday, October 9th judging will start at 8:00 AM. Any tanks that were scheduled for the show and set up late will not be judged. Upon the completion of the judging; showing will commence for the general public until 9:00 PM. Saturday, October 10th showing will be from 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM. Sunday, October 11th showing will be from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Break down will commence at 4:00 PM promptly. Remember we cannot over look safety; it is paramount that we all observe safety first!! We cannot afford to have any mishap of any kind during the show. If you see any signs of someone not being safe, contact Eric or any of our board members promptly. The person may not realize that they may be doing something unsafe. All registration forms for the fish show must be completed and given to any board member before or on the September 25th. There will be a registration form in this news letter for everyone to complete. Please be as specific as possible so Eric doesn t have to decipher what you re entering in the show. Let the games begin! We must have a chairperson to take charge of our clean-up crew. It will entail clean-ups that occur during the setting up of the show, during the general public showing as needed, and at the completion of the show on Sunday, October 12th at 4:00 PM. We need to ensure that Hirata Hall is cleaned well so we may be able to use Hirata Hall again in the future. I cannot over emphasize the importance of having the use of Hirata Hall as our show place. We would have to deplete our operating funds to find another place for our show. You can picture the significance of a clean-up chairperson. We will get volunteers to assist you in your position, promise! We will NOT have our regular monthly meeting on October 2nd at Kuhio Elementary School. It will be on October 9th at Hirata Hall at 7:30 PM. Our auction will be open to the general public, so bring some extra cash or your check book, don't get out bided. I know I'll have to, so I can get something good! I would like to ask our membership if it would be possible for you to donate a few more items for the October auction. It is a money maker for our club, and I ask for your generosity, much Mahalo!! At our September monthly meeting we will cover all questions that you may have on the show, so come with all concerns and questions you may have regarding, i.e., rules, registration etc. See you all at the next meeting! 3
