We encourage a member of each school family to attend. Light refreshments will be served, and childcare will be provided. Emergency Lock Down Drill On Friday May 9 th Kona Pacific staff and students will participate in an all school Lock-Down Dill. This emergency drill will take place during 4 th period and will give teachers, staff, and students the opportunity to practice and be prepared if we ever have a real emergency. If you have to pick-up early on this day please be advised that if we have already initiated the Lock-Down Drill we will need to complete the Drill before we can assist with early pick-ups. We thank you for your support. Big Island Chocolate Festival What is better than chocolate? A Chocolate Festival! The Big Island Chocolate Festival Gala is this weekend, Saturday, May 3 rd! We would love to have lots of our Kona Pacific ohana come to this event, so we wanted to make sure the school community had the correct discount code. KPPCS is the code for $10 off the Chocolate Festival. This will end on Friday... at that point ALL tickets for the Festival will be $100.

More information can be found at School Year Calendar Now Available Please stop by the office for a copy and/or find the School Year Calendar on our website. Math Mania Summer Camp This camp will be an intensive, interactive, cooperative & hands-on learning environment for students who want to learn. Concepts will include decimals, fractions, percents & word problems. To register: complete the form and submit to the Kona Pacific office - 1st come 1st served. Camp will be held from Monday, July 14th to Friday, July 25th from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Kona Pacific PCS campus. Camp is available to 25 students enrolled in the 6th & 7th grades for the school year at Kona Pacific PCS. From the Teachers Thanks for a Great Field Trip! A Big Mahalo to Keoua Honaunau Canoe Club, especially Rafael Rafa Ramirez (Club President) for taking the time to teach the 5 th grade how to paddle and about the rich history of the club and surrounding area. Thank you to Gretchen Currie, Nick Bahrdunn, and the KPPCS Office Staff for helping me coordinate the field trip and to Leah Vines for being an awesome Lifeguard. Mahalo also to Sarah Kulla, Tanya Strom and Travis Tjarks for assisting on the day of the field trip. The highlights of the trip were summed up by a 5 th grade student who wrote: The five things I loved: 1. Dolphins 2. Paddling 3. Water 4. Auntie Mariah 5. My friends 2 P age

3 Thanks for a Fabulous Medieval Games Mahalo to Uncle David & Ms. Sherman for hosting the first annual Kona Pacific PCS Medieval Games. It was wonderful to have the 6 th graders from Haleakla Waldorf School on our campus and participating in the events. We are already looking forward to next year! Preparing for next Year in Aftercare KPPCS A+ Aftercare Pre-Registration begins April 21st! Please fill out an application even if you are not sure whether Aftercare will be needed next year. This ensures your child/children a slot in the program the first day of school. The application MUST be completely filled out or it will not be accepted by the DOE. Registration deadline is May 13 th. If you miss this deadline, Aftercare during the first month of school will not be available for your family. So please do not miss this cut off date. 3 P age

From the Hiring Committee Hiring for Aftercare The A+ Aftercare program is seeking a person to supervise the keiki beginning 30 minutes before school release for a minimum two-hour shift at $15 per hour, Monday through Friday. From the Community Short-Term Rental Available A newly built fully furnished 2-bedroom/ 1-bath home on a cul-de-sac is available this summer from June 6 through July 31 st for $1400/month + electric and internet. This home is very close to KPPCS, only a 5- minute walk. Please contact janetj@kppcs.org or call (808) if you are interested. Letter Carriers Annual Food Drive Summer often means the end of hot meals and the guarantee of regular meals in school for many of our students. This Annual Food Drive helps to provide the Hawaii Food Bank with an ample supply of food for those in need of a nutritious meal. Families are asked to leave non-perishable food items at their mail boxes on Saturday May 10 th so letter carriers can pick them up for the Food Bank. There will be collection boxes at post offices in areas that do not have home delivery. We appreciate your taking some time in your busy day to help our students and community. This worthy project will contribute to helping Hawaii s families in need. Your mom is the one who is there for you through good times and bad, the woman who is always there to pick you up when you fall and the woman who keeps you in line if you waver. One such special lady and mother is Sandy Esperanza. Sandy and her husband, David, are one of Habitat West Hawaii's newest partner families along with their two daughters and extended 'ohana. But Sandy's motherly instincts don't end there, as she is always available to 4 P age

5 help friends, neighbors, and even complete strangers who come see her at Manini Beach where she works as the parks caretaker. Fortunately the Esperanza project is under way, but Habitat West Hawaii now more than ever needs your support to ensure that the Esperanzas can move into their safe, decent, and affordable home on time.
