Sheridan Rotarians finish park project The Sheridan Rotary Club convened their most recent meeting at Sheridan s Community Park and finished removing all the old juniper bushes from around the Community Building. Despite the hot, humid weather, the 10 hardy souls pictured put their muscles to work and finished the project. According to club president Steve Martin over the years the bushes had completely overgrown the sidewalks, most specially on the front side of the building. Trimming them back was not an option because they were so big and unruly. Last year the club decided to take this on as a project for this summer. This coming Tuesday, August 16th, the Sheridan Rotary Club will be sponsoring a public meeting at 7:00 pm to discuss the water utility study recently completed by the town. The meeting will take place in the Community Room of the Sheridan Public Library. The meeting will feature Sheridan resident Todd Burtron who was actively involved in the evaluation of the town s water utility. He will be speaking about the study and taking questions. Sheridan residents, especially those who pay water bills, will want to hear what Burtron has to say. There are a lot of rumors out there about this study; time now to get some facts. The Rotary Club will also be holding a Meet and Greet event this coming Saturday morning, August 13th at the Sheridan Public Library. The event will be from 8 am to 10 am and will feature FREE coffee (or juice) and donuts. If you have questions about Rotary and what we do and you would like to become more involved in community volunteer work, please plan to attend. For further information, please contact club president Steve Martin at the library ( ). $32.7 million investment The Fishers City Council will vote on an economic development agreement by the City of Fishers and Citimark for a certified tech park at Monday s council meeting. Citimark plans to purchase the vacant building at Technology Lane, as well as the Launch Fishers building, to create a campus that anchors the certified tech park. If approved, the Fishers Redevelopment Commission will also have to approve the sale and lease of the Launch BREAKING NEWS Fishers building and the master lease of the redeveloped office building. We are very excited about this proposal and the possibilities it opens up for the certified tech park, said Mayor Scott Fadness. Through this partnership, we will create a campus-like environment that will continue to attract top entrepreneurial talent to our city for years to come. Citimark, an Indiana real estate acquisition and development company, plans to invest $32.7 million in a tech campus that will reinvent the certified tech park. Carmel native trains to become a U.S. Navy pilot By NAVY OFFICE OF COMMUNITY OUTREACH A 2011 Carmel High School graduate and Carmel native is playing a key role in the lengthy and rigorous training process that transforms new U.S. Navy Officers into Naval Aviators. Ensign Dom Deganutti is a student pilot with the Rangers Training Squadron (VT-27), based in Corpus, Christi, Texas, that operates the T-6B Texan II aircraft. As a student pilot, Deganutti is responsible for learning the requisite information to become a basically trained military pilot. I enjoy the opportunity of being involved with aviation in a technical aspect while serving my country, said Deganutti. The T-6B Texan is a training aircraft that is powered by a 1,100 shaft horsepower, free-turbine, turboprop single-engine, four-bladed propeller, with a cruising speed of 310 mph. VT-27 s primary mission is to train future naval aviators to fly as well as instill leadership and officer values, Navy officials explained. Students must complete four phases of flight training in order to graduate, including aviation pre-flight indoctrination, primary flight training and advanced flight training. After successfully completing the rigorous program, naval aviators earn their coveted Wings of Gold. DEVELOPMENT From Page 1 master plan includes the purchase and redevelopment of the former Schwab building on the corner of Technology Lane and Visionary Way, and the opportunity to build an additional 80,000 square feet of office space within the park. Citimark will invest $4.5 million to transform the building from a 117,000-square-foot call center to a 71,000-square-foot tech-ready office building with a center courtyard and updated exterior. The overall investment also includes the purchase of the Launch Fishers building for $3.1 million. The momentum in Fishers has attracted attention from all over the region and we are thrilled to be a part of the next step for this thriving city, said Matt Carlstedt, Partner and Senior Vice President of Investments for Citimark. The master plan includes a tech campus with Launch Fishers and the redeveloped building as the anchors, with a plan for additional development in the surrounding open space. The area was designated a certified tech park last year with the relocation of Launch Fishers to a 51,000 square feet vacant building. Infrastructure improvements, including trails connecting the area to downtown Fishers and a new intersection at the entrance, has made the area more attractive for investors and companies looking to relocate. Launch Fishers continues to be a magnet for companies and entrepreneurs that want to be a part of our growing city, said Mayor Fadness. The demand for office space at Launch Fishers is already at capacity. We knew we had to increase office inventory for the companies that are ready for the next step and those that want to be a part of the what happening here. This reimagined office building does just that. As a part of the economic development agreement, the city will master lease 35,000 square feet of the office building for two years and offer a five-year, 100 percent abatement. Citimark will purchase the Launch Fishers building and lease it back to the city for 10 years at a rate of $12.75 per square foot. In addition, the city will waive all development fees. After graduation, pilots continue their training to learn how to fly a specific aircraft, such as the Navy s F/A-18 Hornet strike fighter jet, the P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft or the SH-60 Seahawk helicopter. They are later assigned to a ship or land-based squadron. Many of these pilots will fly aircraft which take off from and land aboard aircraft carriers and other aviation and air-capable ships, a unique capability which allows Naval Air Forces to operate integrally with surface forces anywhere on the world s oceans. Recently, Navy strike aircraft operating from aircraft carriers sailing in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea and from Middle East waters have launched hundreds of missions against terrorist targets in Iraq and Syria. As a member of one of the U.S. Navy s squadrons with the newest aircraft platforms, Deganutti said he and other VT-27 sailors are proud to be part of a warfighting team that readily defends America at all times. This command is great because it extends every opportunity to succeed, said Deganutti. The instructors are always there and willing to help you and give you extra tips to be successful. Saturday s Noblesville Movie Series moved indoors The Noblesville 2016 Movie Series will begin indoors this season. The showing of Disney s Zootopia has been moved inside because of rain and thunderstorm forecasts. Zootopia will be shown at 9 p.m. Saturday inside the Recreation Annex Community Gym (Gate 18 at Ivy Tech Community Campus). Seating will be available but guests are invited to bring chairs, blankets, sleeping bags and food. Light concessions also will be available. The annual Noblesville Movie Series provides six consecutive weeks of free screenings and enjoyment for the entire family starting at dusk. Again, the move inside is solely for Saturday s Zootopia because of weather. The remaining five movies will remain at Forest Park Shelter No. 1.

After spending more than 60 years preparing and dispensing drugs, Sam Weldy Sr. will begin taking life easy. One of the deans of the druggist business in Indiana, the 81-year-old pharmacist was presented a special award by the Indiana Pharmaceutical Association for 50 years of membership in Now he is being honored with a life membership in the professional organization. Sports: There s a sad football tale at Carmel High School this fall, all because head coach Dick Nyers has one whale of a problem. The problem is the type most coaches would trade for an all-state quarterback, and the saddest part isn t about the Greyhounds, but about the opponents. For a start, Carmel has 13 returning lettermen from a team which didn t lose a single game last season. That alone is enough to bring smiles to Nyers face. Ad: Wickes Lumber & Building Supply Center: Water Softener, only $188.88! Jobs are highly varied at VT-27, according to Navy officials. Approximately 60 men and women officers and 15 civilian employees, make up and keep all parts of the squadron running smoothly -- this includes everything from training the new aviators, maintaining airframes and engines, processing paperwork, along with handling and flying the aircraft. What the men and women of this squadron accomplish every day is nothing short of miraculous," explained CDR Corbett Dixon, Commanding Officer of VT-27. The students are in the process of moving from just another college graduate in society, to someone who sacrifices their own time and effort for society. That s what it means to serve in the Navy. Serving in the Navy, Deganutti is learning about being a more responsible leader, Sailor and person through handling numerous responsibilities. "Serving in the Navy has reinforced my work ethic and given me a sense of pride in knowing that I am doing my civic duty in serving my country while being a part of something greater than myself, said Deganutti.\ Hamilton County Reporter Hamilton County s Hometown Newspaper Renee Twilley achieves Diamond Club status Renee Twilley, General Manager of the Olive Garden in Carmel, has achieved parent company Darden Restaurants Diamond Club status. Seven returners, new coach for Tigers By RICHIE HALL Reporter Sports Editor The Fishers volleyball team had a successful season last year, compiling a record. While this year's edition of the Tigers team graduated North All-Star Brooke Leonard, they do have seven returners from last year. This returning group is varied in age, positions and statistics, and will be ready for a tough schedule that's customary of all Fishers teams. The Tigers also have a new coach: Former Noblesville assistant Steven Peek is now leading Fishers. Peek's first Tiger team will have two seniors, Maggie Markwood, an outside hitter who led Fishers in kills and aces last season, and Ellie Adams, a defensive setter who led in digs. "The two seniors are more than just statistical leaders; they're also leaders of their teammates," said Peek. The coach said that the varsity team "will lean on them for consistency and to handle pressure situations." Other key returners include junior attacker Mallory Hernandez, who was second in kills last season. Sophomore setter Rose Duffy is also back. Two new sophomores will make an impact on the team: Middle blocker Haley Soper and outside hitter Audrey Haworth. "Early match-ups in tournaments and against Zionsville, Noblesville and Hamilton Southeastern will be helpful in putting us on the right path, while tough opponents late in the season, like Avon, Mount Vernon, Brebeuf and Westfield, will double-check our spirit and courage heading into Sectionals," said Peek. "We've put a lot of time into defense and other key details this summer, and we're looking forward to setting high standards this season." Fishers roster Seniors: Ellie Adams, Maggie Markwood. Juniors: Robin Brown, Julia Drozd, Yadie Finkler, Audrey Haworth, Mallory Hernandez, Ayslinn Roberts, Molly Waldrop, Elziabeth Weeks. Sophomores: Rose Duffy, Haley Soper. Royals coach Christopher White said that his team "will once again play one of the toughest schedules in the state," and has a main goal of "being prepared for a deep run in the state tournament." Southeastern also has good talent, too. Three seniors are on the team: Dylan Ricketts, a Second Team All State player who scored 10 goals and handed out five assists; Eli Quivey, who made Third Team All State, dishing out 10 assists and scoring twice; and Vinny Ferrari, one of HSE's defenders. Two juniors will lead Southeastern on defense: Ethan Pullman and Jake Smith. White said the two have been varsity starters since their freshman year.
