5 WEDNESDAY, MAY 9, 2018 ELECTIVES LEARN AT LUNCH OPTIONS 11:45 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. THE SECRET SAUCE: POLICIES DRIVING BOISE S SUCCESS LUNCH/SESSION NOTES: Lunch location is Capitol Cellars (110 South 5th Street). Cost is $25 per person. Meet Commerce Lexington s Andi Johnson in the hotel lobby at 11:30 a.m. to walk to Capitol Cellars. Join Idaho State Senator and Boise City Commissioner MaryAnne Jordan for lunch and a discussion about how public policies have helped drive Boise s economic development and quality of life transformation over the last decade. Maryanne Jordan served on the Boise City Council from , where she held the position of Council President, the equivalent to Vice Mayor, for more than five years. Maryanne was also appointed to the State Senate in the Idaho Legislature in 2015 and continues to serve as State Senator. MaryAnne s leadership at both levels of government uniquely qualify her to lead this conversation with Lexington policy leaders. Don t miss this opportunity to learn more about how elected officials and business and community leaders have worked together to transform Boise. Photo Courtesy of Boise CVB 11:45 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. BOISE S SPIRIT OF DIVERSITY & INCLUSION LUNCH/SESSION NOTES: Session & lunch will be held at Harris CPA s Center of Influence (805 W. Idaho St., Suite 400). The entrance to the building is between Fork and Alavita on Idaho Street. From the lobby, take the elevator to the 4th floor. Cost is $10 per person for a boxed lunch. Meet CLX s Tyrone Tyra in the hotel lobby at 11:30 a.m. to walk with the group. Demographically, Boise is one of the least ethnically diverse cities we have visited during our intercity visits. However, when you take the opportunity to look beyond the numbers, the demographics don t represent the full picture of how Boise celebrates and fosters diversity and inclusion throughout the region. This presentation and discussion will be led by Dan Prinzing, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Wassmuth Center for Human Rights, home to the Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial. Dan will share the story of Bill Wassmuth a priest who set out to change a culture of hate by white supremacists in Idaho, and how the Wassmuth Center and Memorial were developed to promote respect for human dignity and diversity through education, and to foster individual responsibility to work for justice and peace. Drawn from the Memorial s messaging, the Center s Spiral of Injustice and Be an Upstander programming challenges communities, companies and classrooms alike on how they can interrupt the spiral and confront hate with a message of hope. Participants will hear how community leaders changed the narrative, making diversity and inclusion an imperative for Boise s continued success. 11:45 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. EMERGING LEADERS IDEA EXCHANGE LUNCH/SESSION NOTES: This session will be held at Lucky Fins (801 West Main Street). Cost is $20 per person for a buffet lunch. Meet Commerce Lexington s Amy Carrington in lobby at 11:30 a.m. to walk to Lucky Fins. How is Boise preparing the next generation of leaders in its community? Why is that important? Join representatives from Boise Young Professionals (BYP) to learn about issues facing young professionals and programming focused on developing and retaining emerging talent. This informal lunch discussion will also explore our Leadership Visit delegates ideas on how the Lexington community can work with emerging leaders to position themselves for leadership now and in the future.

6 WEDNESDAY, MAY 9, 2018 ELECTIVES DISCOVER BOISE OPTIONS 1:30-4:00 p.m. BIKE BOISE ELECTIVE NOTES: Meet in the lobby of The Grove Hotel by 1:30 p.m. to board bus to ride to Payette Brewing. Fee is $25 per person and includes bike, helmet and bottled water. This elective is sponsored by KLH Engineers. The 4.5-mile tour will start and conclude at Payette Brewing on Pioneer Street alongside the Boise Greenbelt. During the tour you will visit two river side parks; the 170-acre Ann Morrison Park, used for outdoor activities, and the 90-acre Julia Davis Park, used for festivals and home to museums and gardens. Next, you ll be led on a ride through downtown Boise where you ll see the new eco-liv district that promotes walk-ability and bike-ability, enjoy a stop at C.W. Moore Park (paying homage to all the mistakes made by the urban renewal of the 70 s and 80 s) illustrating how Boise turned things around, ride by the State Capital Building and Capital Park. Other stops include the Freak Alley Art Gallery - the largest outdoor art gallery in the northwest, the popular BODO area, the arts and cultural district, and the Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial. 1:30-3:00 p.m. ARTS, CULTURE & URBAN DEVELOPMENT WALKING TOUR ELECTIVE NOTES: Participants will meet at City Hall Plaza (150 North Capitol Blvd.), which is three blocks from The Grove Hotel. Tour guide is Terri Schorzman, Director of Arts & History, Boise City Department of Arts & History. Look for CLX staff member Mark Turner at City Hall Plaza just prior to 1:30 p.m. The tour will meet on City Hall Plaza for a welcome and overview of the topic. See Boise s newest public art installation, Cottonwoods, evocative of the history of the cottonwood trees along the Boise River and the role they played in helping settlement in the valley. Tour highlights include the Basque Block where a public art initiative helped renovate and reinvigorate a decaying block; Chinatown Viewers where people can peer into the past to see original Chinese settlement; Grove Street Illuminated where you ll learn about the history of irrigation, property development, and changing social patterns through an iconic piece of Boise s public art; Totems a sculpture that catalyzed the redevelopment of 8th street in the late 1980 s, which became the heart of downtown food, beverage and entertainment; Main Street Station the new downtown public transit center filled with public art that tells several stories, including a wall of city land use and transportation history, and Traffic Boxes the robust art program that wraps utility boxes with vinyl, designed by over a 100 Boise artists. 2:00-3:30 p.m. BOISE S SPORTS ECONOMY ELECTIVE NOTES: This session will be hosted at the Bleymaier Football Center at the northeast corner of Bronco Stadium on Caesar Chavez. Participants are welcome to walk to the stadium, but if you prefer to ride the shuttle bus from The Grove Hotel, meet Renee Shepard in the hotel lobby at 1:45 p.m. This elective is sponsored by the Lexington Legends. A large part of what makes a community attractive to people (especially in the battle for talent) includes amenities like high level college and professional sports, as well as options to participate in organized sports leagues. Leveraging these opportunities can have a positive economic impact on a city and region. This session will be hosted at the Bleymaier Football Center just beyond the north end zone of Bronco Stadium overlooking the infamous blue field. Meet key leaders in Boise sports including our host Brad Larrondo, Assistant Athletics Director at Boise State, Scot Ludwig, Boise City Council Member providing insight on Boise s efforts to develop the Boise Sports Park, Bob Flannery, General Manager, Boise Hawks Baseball Club, and Bill Conners, President & CEO, Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce.
