London arrivals - transfers arranged for all attendees via Cambridge Connections; look for sign with your name in the arrival hall after clearing immigration, luggage collection and customs or in the lobby of your hotel if arriving early. Morning Arrivals 10:00am 12:00pm 10:30am 12:30pm Transfer from London hotels, London Gatwick or London Heathrow to Clare College at Cambridge University (arrive at Clare College Memorial Court - Queens Road entrance; check-in at Porter s Lodge) Check-in & Registration Porter s Lodge (dorm keys) Neild Room (nametags) Orientation walking tour of Clare College and Cambridge City Clare College was founded in 1326 and was the first of the Oxford and Cambridge foundations to provide for a Master, Fellows and Scholars in a single community. With the spires of its university buildings framed by towering trees, expansive meadows and riverbanks, the city of Cambridge is among the loveliest in England. The city s famous sites include King's College Chapel, the tower of Great St. Mary's, the university's main church and the Fitzwilliam, Cambridge's finest museum with superb art and classical collections. 1:30 4:00pm Room keys distributed/free time to unpack & rest ** Note: Rooms may be available before lunch 4:00 6:00pm Depart for open top double-decker bus tour of Cambridge to include the American Cemetery and Memorial The Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial site was donated by the University of Cambridge. The only American World War II burial ground in England, the site holds 3,800 white crosses to pay tribute to the American men and women who died in the war as well as a wall to commemorate the more than 5,000 soldiers who gave their lives but whose remains were never recovered or identified. 6:00 7:30pm Opening Dinner at Browns Brasserie.. The first Browns opened at Brighton in 1973 with one simple guiding belief: classic food, well delivered in a stylish environment, would be a recipe for success. The only thing that has changed since then is the number of Browns, now running at fourteen, of which six are in London.

However, it is known that the sport was introduced to England from Ireland in the 1830s. In the latter part of the 19th century and early 20th century it grew very rapidly in popularity as an agreeable pastime for the upper classes and played on equal terms by men and women. From the scene in Alice in Wonderland where flamingos were used as mallets to the seriousness of the World Croquet Championship, players of all skill levels and ages enjoy the entertaining game of croquet. 3:30 5:00pm Punting along the River Cam A punt is a narrow flat-bottomed boat that somewhat resembles a Venetian gondola with the curve removed. The design was developed in the medieval period to allow for easy navigation in areas with shallow water. Poling along the river looks effortless and easy; a relaxing way to enjoy a quiet summer afternoon. Looks can be deceiving! Nonetheless, punting along the River Cam is one of the traditional delights of visiting Cambridge. 5:00 7:00pm Free Time 7:00pm Dinner in the Great Hall at Clare College.. Reminiscent of Hogwarts Dining Hall, the 17th century Great Hall at Clare College is a superb setting for the evening meal after an exciting day.

With its spectacular whale skeleton hanging over the entrance, the Museum of Zoology is home to a huge variety of animals. Beautiful shells, a comprehensive collection of British birds, and many large skeletons of mammals trace the evolution of animal life. 2:45 4:30pm Free Time 4:30pm Depart for Madingley Hall & Gardens Tour with Light Buffet Dinner.. Madingley Hall is an elegant country house built in the 16th Century and set in the delightful gardens and grounds of about 7 acres, designed in the 18th Century by Capability Brown. They include flower borders and lawns, a topiary garden and meadows. The Hall is situated in the peaceful village of Madingley, three miles west of the historic University City of Cambridge.
