A course primarily for engineering students and applied-track math majors. Concentrated on finding solutions to differential equations and also on applications to topics like the motion of springs and the deflection of beams. Methods of Linear Algebra, Fall 2010, 24 students. A course primarily for engineering students and applied-track math majors. Covered matrices, linear transformations, Markov processes, linear programming, and applications like computer graphics and the Google PageRank algorithm. Topology of Surfaces, Spring 2010, 7 students. An introductory, proof-based topology course for math majors which emphasized point-set topology, knot theory, and surfaces. Students were introduced to Latex and completed research projects. Single-Variable Calculus II, Fall 2009, 45 students. The second semester of a four-semester calculus sequence. Concentrated on techniques and applications of integration. Traditional Courses Taught at the University of Notre Dame Principles of Calculus, Fall 2008, 5 students. A terminal, special permission calculus course for students who lacked the necessary background for the standard calculus sequence. Identified and filled in the gaps in the students backgrounds, and introduced basic properties of functions, derivatives and integrals, with special attention to applications throughout. Principles of Finite Mathematics, Spring 2007, 11 students. A special permission course for students who lacked the necessary background for the standard finite mathematics course. Introduced combinatorics, probability, statistics, game theory, logic, and graph theory, with an emphasis on applications. (Teaching Assistant) Calculus I, Spring 2006, 19 students. Developed collaborative learning activities and led tutorial sessions for this course for science and engineering students. Special Teaching Experiences at the University of Notre Dame Balfour-Hesburgh Scholars Program, Finite Math Instructor, Summers An academic enrichment experience designed to help incoming first-year students from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic minority groups make the transition from high school to college. Using R for Mathematical Statistics, Mini-Course Instructor, Springs Taught students how to use the software environment R for statistical computing. Honors Undergraduate Reading Group Program, Seminar Leader, Spring 2006 and Fall Led honors math majors in a special seminar designed to give them an opportunity to learn about a new topic and how to present math to their peers.
