2 3.0 HEARING CREDIT 3.1 New Course Proposals A. ART 100 Art in Culture (Fall 2018) Description: A selection of significant works of art are studied in an expanded cultural context. Each of the works is contextualized within its own history, politics, economics, philosophy, technology, music and literary traditions to offer the fullest appreciation of art in culture. B. ENG 221H British Literature 1, Survey of British Literature, Honors (Fall 2018) Description: Honors chronological survey of British literature from Anglo-Saxon times to the end of the 18th century. 3.2 Modified Course Proposals A. ART 141 Studio Art Foundations 3D (Fall 2018) Description: Beginning course in three-dimensional design. Introduction to form, structure, the elements of design and three-dimensional design theory. Includes an exploration of various materials and techniques, with emphasis on the creative process. B. ENG 110H Composition And Reading, Honors (Fall 2018) Description: First semester of freshman English for students enrolled in the Honors Program. Expository writing based on critical reading and coordinated with other Honors courses. Designed to improve students' skills in writing effectively, reading carefully and thinking clearly. C. MATH 114 Mathematics for Liberal Arts Majors (Fall 2018) Description: Intended to broaden students' understanding of methods, history and applications of mathematics. Logic, mathematical proofs, numeration systems, modular arithmetic, coordinate geometry and graphing, elementary probability and statistics, linear programming and financial math. D. MATH 117 Elementary Statistics (Fall 2018) Description: General education mathematics course. Introduction to design of experiments, descriptive statistics and sampling distributions. Central Limit Theorem, statistical inference, confidence interval estimation, tests of hypotheses, correlation and linear regression, categorical variables, Chi-square, one-way ANOV, and multiple comparisons procedure. E. MATH 117H Elementary Statistics, Honors (Fall 2018) Page: 2

Introduction to design of experiments, descriptive statistics and sampling distributions, Central Limit Theorem, statistical inference, confidence interval estimation and tests of hypotheses, correlation and linear regression, categorical variables and Chi-square distribution. One-way ANOVA, multiple comparisons procedure. F. MATH 138 Precalculus II - College Algebra and Trigonometry (Fall 2018) Description: Advanced algebra course emphasizing analysis, graphing and applications of trigonometric functions. Such functions are developed from circular functions. Trigonometric identities and conditional equations, applications to triangles, vectors, complex numbers, parametric equations and polar coordinates are covered. Additional topics include sequences, series and the Binomial Theorem. G. NURS 161 Pharmacology Nursing H. NURS 162 Introduction to Medical-Surgical Nursing I I. NURS 165 Mental Health Nursing J. NURS 166 Intermediate Medical-Surgical Nursing III K. NURS 167 Maternal Newborn and Pediatric Nursing L. NURS 167VN Nursing Care of Children and Families for the LVN M. PHIL 100 Introduction To Philosophy (Spring 2018) Description: Survey of the basic problems and systems in philosophy. Special consideration given to logic, theories of knowledge, metaphysics, ethics, philosophy of religion, and political philosophy. Q. PHIL 101 Introduction To Ethics (Fall 2018) Description: Examination of the nature of morality, moral concepts, moral theories, such as virtue theory, natural law, consequentialism, and Kantianism, and disputed moral issues, such as abortion, world hunger, pornography, environmentalism, cloning, genetic enhancement, war, euthanasia, capital punishment, and animal rights. R. PHIL 201 History Of Philosophy: Modern (Fall 2018) Description: Study of the thought of the major philosophers from the rise of science in the late 1500s to 1800s. Philosophers discussed include many or all of the following: Bacon, Galileo, Hobbes, Descartes, Spinoza, Conway, Malebranche, Leibniz, Locke, Berkeley, Hume, and Kant. S. PHIL 205 Introduction To Logic (Spring 2018) Description: Formal investigation into the nature of argument. Topics covered are validity, implication, statement (propositional) logic, truth tables, syllogistic (categorical) logic (including Carroll or Venn diagrams), and predicate (quantificational) logic.
