Volunteer Opportunities and Upcoming Trips - Subjects discussed were in SMP agenda (Attachment 2). 09/07 Monthly SMP Meeting Single Marine Program monthly meeting will be held at 1330 at 33 Area SMP Rec Center, bldg /15-09/17 Sequoia National Park Fact: Sequoia is home to 200 bird species, 26 reptile species, and 73 mammal species -and is known for its giant Sequoia trees. For only $60.00 you can see this amazing environment for yourself. Cost includes transportation, camping, meals while in camp and a private group tour of Crystal Caves. Group departs Semper Fit HQ Bldg at Registration opens August 15th at /21 Stepp Stables Beautification Day 100 Active Duty volunteers are needed for a stables beautification day, filled with painting, gardening and demolition projects. All volunteers will be provided an SMP BBQ lunch, volunteer t-shirt, morning snacks and a letter of appreciation! All volunteers are asked to wear long pants and closedtoed shoes. Registration currently open. 09/22 Day at Cabrillo National Monument Discover the tide pools and gorgeous views of Cabrillo for only $5.00. Registration and payment includes transportation, hydration and snacks during the hike. Group departs Semper Fit HQ, Bldg at Registration currently open. 9/23 - Semper Triathlon Are you hard corps? Find out by completing the Hard Corps Race Series Semper Triathlon, Devil Dog Duathlon or the No Beach Out Of Reach Run. Event starts at 0730 t-shirt, swim cap, finished medal for all participants. Registration is $10 for Active Duty aboard Camp Pendleton and $75 for civilians. Register at 10/13 - Stonewall Peak Hike & Julian Apple Pie Enjoy a 360-degree view over the forested peaks and wide-open meadows of this 2-mile hike and then some famous Julian Apple-pie! $5.00 per person includes transportation, hydration and snacks during the hike. Bring money for pie. Volunteer at L.I.N.K.S. sessions as a behind-the-scenes timekeeper or build your communication & public speaking skills as a mentor. Perhaps donating homemade treats is more your style join the L.I.N.K.S. Hospitality Team. If you have a busy schedule, L.I.N.K.S. will work with you to find a way for you to exercise your creativity, utilize your organizational skills or people skills on your own timetable. Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary Ali Nusbaum (760) alinusbaum@msn.com The Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary is in real need of volunteers who can come on a regular basis. There are a lot of chores to do there & only a few volunteers. The animals have to be cared for whether volunteers show up or not, & many of the current volunteers are seniors. They often find it difficult to stay to a regular schedule. Most of the chores involve cleaning & washing, not the most exciting type of chore, but one that is required daily. Dog walking would also be helpful.

Organization Date(s) & Times POC Contact Information Notes Big Brother Bis Sister Program of Oceanside Hillary Adams hadams@bgcoceanside.org Looking for service men & women to volunteer one to two hours a week at one of our seven schools sites from 2:30 6:00 p.m. Volunteers will have the option to work one on one with a student or work with the staff & the entire class. Each class has about 20 to 25 students. Most of our schools are elementary 1st through 5th grade. We also have teens at our home site. Whether you volunteer, mentor, tutor, or educate, collectively it makes a difference! The Big Brother & Big Sister program is a rolling system. Ideally we would like volunteers to commit to 8 weeks. You have the option of setting your own schedule & day as long as it aligns with the hours above. Again, all of our schools are in Oceanside. A few schools we serve include: San Luis Rey, Martin Luther King, Foussat, La Fuente, South Oceanside, Libby, Palmquist, & we have our town site which is our main site; no school is attached to this site. After eight weeks, an LOA will be provided to each volunteer. Big Brother Big Sister of San Diego Megan Hartwell at meganh@sdbigs.org Operation Bigs (Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County) Duties: The Operation Bigs Program is an opportunity for Volunteer "Bigs" to spend one-on-one time with a child "Littles", one hour per week - playing sports or games, reading, doing crafts, or simply talking about life together - just as friends do. "Bigs" & "Littles" meet at one of five Base Elementary Schools for one hour, once per week during the regular school year. Schedules vary from location to location Qualifications: Volunteers will need to complete a m&atory screening & background check prior to becoming a "Big". Able to fulfill at least a one year commitment

OpHero is a free 10- week after-school program that targets military children grades Kindergarten through fifth who are experiencing temporary difficulty in school, both socially & academically. The class consists of after-school tutoring & mentoring assistance in a small group with facilitators who are dedicated in making a difference in the lives of their students. The classes meet twice a week for 2.5 hours right after school. The program structure may vary in order, but always involves snack, curriculum, outside time, & homework help. The volunteer will assist the teacher in the classroom as needed, including but not limited to: reading aloud, teaching the daily curriculum, outdoor team building activities, homework help, & other opportunities that will arise.if you are free any day in the afternoon Monday-Thursday & would like to help military children overcome their difficulties & grow. Voices for Children are looking for dedicated individuals of strong character to become CASA volunteers. CASAs Court Appointed Special Advocates are advocates for children in foster care, speaking up on their behalf & helping them through what is often a confusing & scary time. With just hours a month, CASAs can make a difference in the life of a child. CASAs are thoroughly trained, then matched with & supported by a Voices for Children staff member who works closely with Words Alive Chrissy Califf Chrissy@wordsalive.org (WORD). Words Alive, a literacy non-profit in San Diego, is looking for volunteers. Their volunteer opportunities are primarily within the school system in San Diego & focus on promoting a love of reading amongst at-risk youth & adolescents. Their mission is to open opportunities for life success through the power of reading. They serve approximately 1500 pre-school aged students within Child Development Centers/Head Starts or adolescents within alternative high schools on a monthly basis. They have two volunteer assignments that run 1 time/month from October to May: Early Literacy Intervention (ELI) & Adolescent Book Group (ABG). Anyone interested will need to complete an, a TB test, background check, training (ELI- 2 hours; ABG 2-3 hours), & kick-off meeting.

They have several different programs that would benefit from additional volunteers; they include: Operation Appreciation, Military Kidz Club, Books on Bases. Have you ever wanted to volunteer with teens & young adults with special needs? Do you have a desire to help others? If so, this could be a great opportunity for you. This group helps teens with special needs (such as autism) learn the dynamics of building friendships, social skills & selfexpression through fresh & creative avenues. Drawing on peers & professionals from the music community, this group experiences music recording, instrument exploration, improvisational songwriting, drumming & other projects based on the interests & needs of the group. This pilot program will involve a total of 6 jam sessions, & volunteers (peer mentors) must be able to attend all six sessions to sign up. Each Jam Session will feature a special rock star guest musician & will be facilitated by board-certified music therapists. Peer mentor will help nurture inclusion opportunities for this special group. Each peer mentor will be paired with a teen as a buddy for the duration of the six sessions & must attend a m&atory training session prior to the first group. This opportunity will be once a month on Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30pm.

Varies depending on date & project, we are pretty flexible. Most days there is availability to start as early at 7am & go until 7-8pm depending on amount of sunlight. Volunteers will receive: o 1st day = K9 Guardian Gel Bracelet (1 time) o 40 Hours = T-Shirt (1 time) o 80 Hours = Letter of appreciation (1 per for each 80 hours) o 200 Hours = Senate Certificate of Recognition for Outst&ing Community Service (1 time) HiCaliber Horse Rescue Kim Roeh joinus@hicaliber.org HiCaliber Horse Rescue is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation & responsible placement of horses. All levels welcome. Insured, over 70 horses, lots of fun, endless love.we are flexible with our hours. We have a schedule in our Facebook Volunteer Group & we ask that they come when a Senior volunteer is onsite. Feeders arrive around 8:30am-9am & we have people around until 6pm-7pm depending on daylight savings. We are looking for weekday coverage the most. There is no minimum amount of time a person needs to spend at the ranch. We track volunteer's hours & can give verification letters of hours served.

Volunteer to foster a service dog c&idate for six weeks. TLCAD training instructors assess homeless shelter dogs to identify dogs with the right temperament & health to become a service dog. Foster Guardians then, take the dog into their home for six weeks to positively expose the dogs to various stimuli in the environment, as well as introduce them to key foundation behaviors. Foster guardians learn from TLCAD instructors how to train basic foundation behaviors & all basic costs (including food) of the dog are covered by TLCAD. BENEFITS: help give a wounded warrior a service dog, learn how to train a dog, option to adopt a great dog if it is not selected to be a service dog. The Pegasus Rising Project Gary Adler gadler@pegasusrising.org. The Pegasus Rising Project (26002 Bear Valley Heights Road, Escondido, CA 92027) has an ongoing volunteer opportunity with shifts twice daily, 7 days a week. Hours of Volunteer Shifts: 7-7:30am morning start times (depending on the day of the week) & 4pm daily. Shifts are 3 volunteers per shift & the shifts take 1 hour to 1.5 hours maximum per shift. The minimum age to volunteer: 18 unless accompanied by parent on the volunteer shift. Volunteer horse caregivers water, feed & clean up after their 14 Polish Arabian horses twice daily. The herd works with veterans of all eras & their families helping them reintegrate into their civilian & family lives after returning from deployment.

The NMCRS Thrift Shop is also in need of volunteers Rancho Santa Margarita Y Las Flores Docents Paul Durrance pgdurrance@cox.net The Rancho Santa Margarita y Las Flores Docents is a nonprofit organization aboard Camp Pendleton that assists the Base History Office with giving tours at the Ranch House, Las Flores Adobe & the Mechanized Museum as well as other related tasks. They are looking for a person to act as their webmaster. The responsibilities would include finishing the partial revision of our website as well as either acting as our ongoing webmaster for updating the website as necessary or training one of our Docents to do this

We offer comfortably furnished rooms with bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, living, dining, laundry & playrooms. The home provides free temporary lodging so military families can be close to their loved ones during a medical crisis. Fisher House is available to families of active duty, retired & veterans from all services including the National Guard & Coast Guard. Our Fisher House has a full-time staff but depends on volunteers & voluntary support to enhance daily operations & program expansion. Please consider volunteering your time to help our courageous service members & their families. USS Midway Museum Laurie Switzer lswitzer@midway.org The USS Midway Museum has a large pool of volunteers & a small paid staff that makes up a very homogeneous team with a very positive attitude. We are looking for people to assist in promoting & sustaining this Midway Magic environment, & we encourage your participation as a volunteer in one of the following areas, pending an application review & availability of open positions. Women & civilians are encouraged to apply. A monthly commitment is required. Life as a military family is challenging & when you throw a child or spouse with special needs into the mix, day to day life can seem downright impossible. MSNN Cares is a volunteer based program aimed at helping special needs military families receive basic help during times of deployment, illness, or emergencies. They aim to pair local volunteers with special needs families to provide individualized support as they need it. Are you getting ready to PCS & need help? Have an upcoming surgery? Is your spouse deployed & you have a difficult time with yard work? Do you need help getting to & from doctor appointments? Are you looking to find a friend to talk with that just gets it? MSNN Cares can help! This incredible program is driven by individuals that will lend their time, skills, & compassion Hand Up Food Pantry Religious Development Center, Building #1344, on the corner of A & 11th. Each month the Hand Up Youth Food Pantry at Jewish Family Service distributes emergency food to approximately 75 families on base at Camp Pendleton. Fresh produce, diapers, & nutritious non-perishables are offered to active duty military members. Many h&s are needed to help assist unloading our truck & setting up for the event. Volunteers are a vital part of the distribution as they help set up & distribute food items to those seeking assistance.a shirt will be provided if desired.

Heritage Park Village Museum is nearly finished renovating the historic buildings that offer visitors the opportunity to step back in time & glimpse Oceanside at its incorporation in Marines were among the volunteers that worked to bring this Park into existence during our country s bicentennial celebration in The Park is made up of representative & historic buildings; including the original Oceanside Jail formerly used for its holding cells by the Camp Pendleton military police. The museum furnishings & artifacts were removed from many of the buildings & put into storage to enable renovations & remodeling. Now that they have completed some of this work, they need to return the furnishings to the buildings. They are in need of 4-6 strong Marines to lift & move some large & heavy glass display cases from storage in the Livery Stable to their respective buildings onsite. Habitat for Humanity Riverside Mr. Luis Munoz ext.118 Habitat for Humanity Riverside is looking to build homes for veterans in the city of Jurupa Valley. In partnership with California Department of Veteran Affairs, Habitat for Humanity Riverside will build 26 new, Energy STAR rated efficient single-family residents dedicated to veterans & families of the fallen.

At times they may not have enough to pickup/delivery & would not need help when that happens. However, they really want to give this a try so here is the plan.
