1 The Quechee Club is now accepting applications for summer interns. The Quechee Club is a combination of a resort and a country club. It has all the amenities of a resort, but its membership is made up of Landowners. This resort /country club structure has the best of both worlds offering the following for its members and guests: Two 18 hole championship golf courses Three all-weather and eight Har-Tru tennis courts 2 Platform Tennis Courts Indoor and outdoor pools Health Club facilities 50 acre private lake with beach and boating area 2 summer day camps and teen programs Holiday events, special events, and family events As an intern, students are exposed to all aspects of these offerings, from planning the beginning stages to implementation. They will have true ownership in our summer events and will be expected to learn and improve along the way. They will be leading outdoor excursions such as hiking and kayaking, programming and leading adult and children activities, supervising our pool, lake, health club, and summer camp facilities, and marketing, promoting and implementing all recreation events on and off property. I am looking for 2 interns for the summer of Interns will receive an hourly wage as well as FREE housing. POSITION DEPARTMENT DATE Recreation Intern Recreation January, 2014 STATUS Non-Exempt REPORTS TO Recreation Director Objective: The purpose of this position is to provide practical experience for college students who are fulfilling their degree requirements in Recreation Management or other related fields. The internship consists of a time period of three to six months, within the Recreation Program. Responsibilities: Recreation Program Responsibilities The Recreation Program will assume the following responsibilities associated with the student internship. 1. The student will be placed under the direct supervision of the Recreation Director. The Director may detail the student to any activity in Recreation based on the mutual agreement between the student and Recreation needs and desires. 2. The Director or supervisor will conduct in-service training in the following areas specific to the Recreation Program: A. Fiscal Controls B. Budget development C. Personnel Management D. Maintenance E. Facility Planning F. Programming- Assessment, Development, Implementation and Evaluation G. Public Relations H. Policy and Standards Development I. Administration Procedures 3. The Director will provide the university supervisor with an evaluation at the middle and end of the student s experience, or as outlined by the university. 4. The student will be considered as part of the regular staff. He/she will be encouraged to display high work standards and enthusiasm for the job. 5. The Director will confer with the student as necessary, and at the minimum weekly, to arrange schedules, discuss work performed and analyze problems. 6. The Director reserves the right to terminate an internship due to unforeseen circumstances such as immediate budget constraints, poor intern performance, or illegal intern activity. Student Intern Duties and Responsibilities 1. To assist in the planning, promoting and implementation of recreation special and regularly scheduled events. 2. To assist in activity logistical support such as vehicles, food and equipment preparation. 3. To assist in issuing, inspecting, collecting, and maintaining outdoor recreation equipment and supplies.

3 4. To assist in the performance of administrative functions associated with day to day and long range recreation operations. Example: budget preparation, supply and equipment procurement, training programs, activity sign ups and office duties. 5. To assist in instructing, leading and supervising activities commensurate with and to them level of skill of the intern based upon knowledge, skills and abilities, and observed performance following local and professional standards, operating instructions and procedures. 6. To assist in collecting and depositing funds for activities, equipment rentals, resale items, etc. within fiscal guidelines. 7. Complies with all QLLA policies as outlined in the Core Policy Guide and maintains a professional demeanor at all times while representing the club. 8. To assist and perform in other related duties as assigned. Other Significant Facts Student interns are allowed dormitory housing on base at no charge. Interns do not receive any form of medical coverage during their internship and must present proof of personal medical insurance before the internship begins. Position Requirements: Junior/Senior standing in a recreation related major. Leadership and public relation skills Decision-making skills Ability to react well under pressure and to handle potentially hazardous conditions. Special Qualifications: Previous camp counselor experience preferred. One year supervisory experience preferred. Community First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer Lifeguard training Physical Requirements: This is a physically demanding position. Requiring the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. May require balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, and hearing. Subject to both environmental conditions: activities occur both inside and outside including, but not limited to indoors, outdoors, service areas, and in a variety of weathers. Indoor office work may compromise less than 50% of work-time. Schedule: Available to work varied hours; days, evenings, weekends and holidays are required. Time off is limited.

4 SUMMER INTERNSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 1. Plan, organize and lead varied group programs for children, adults, families and other special interest groups. 2. Assist Director with an Annual Capital Purchases Program. 3. Participate in preliminary planning for Summer and Fall/Winter Programs. 4. Formulate and implement Summer and Fall promotional literature. 5. Develop and organize department schedules for the Recreation summer staff. 6. Work with all departments within The Quechee Club structure to develop an understanding of their operations. (Golf Maintenance, Membership Services, Building Maintenance, Food and Beverage, etc.) 7. Attend and moderate weekly staff meetings with department heads. 8. Supervise Recreation staff in the absence of the Recreation Director. 9. Create, develop and execute a special project that could benefit The Quechee Club and its staff, members or guests. 10. Perform related duties as assigned by the Director. SUMMER RECREATION INTERNSHIP PROGRAM PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The Quechee Club in Quechee, Vermont offers a supervised fieldwork experience for highly motivated college juniors or seniors enrolled in a degree-granting recreation program.

5 Internships are offered from Mid-May through Labor Day (dates flexible). Students are responsible for planning, organizing and leading varied group programs for children, adults, families and other special interest groups, as well as other tasks involved in the everyday operations of the Recreation Department. SUPERVISION Dan Preston will directly supervise the interns, with help from the Recreation Program Manager, Niles Franc. Dan is from St. Clair, Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2007 with a degree in Recreation Management. Dan has had previous experience in kid s camps while working at the Cordillera Club in The Vail Valley. Dan started at The Quechee Club in 2008 and was later promoted to Recreation Director in In addition to The Quechee Club, Dan is also an active member of the Resort and Commercial Recreation Association, serving on the Board of Directors. His certifications include CPR/AED and First Aid Instructor, Lifeguard, and Certified Pool Operator s License. Niles is originally from Antigo, Wisconsin. He also graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2013 with a degree in Recreation Management. Starting in 2011, Niles began his professional career planning and implementing youth summer camps for children with special needs and other programs while working at the City of La Crosse Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department and Special Olympics Wisconsin. Niles started at The Quechee Club as an intern in the summer of 2013 and was hired on as the new Recreation Program Manager following successful completion of his internship. His certifications include Wilderness First Responder (WMA), Aquatic Facility Operator s License, Lifeguard and CPR/AED. COMPENSATION Interns will be paid on a weekly basis with an hourly wage and will be provided with FREE on-site housing. Housing consists of a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and social area. Meals can be purchased at half price in our Base Lodge facility. INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE Meetings to Attend 1. General Staff meetings involving all personnel. 2. Weekly staff meetings involving specific areas of the Recreation Department. 3. Recreation Committee, board meetings, and managers meetings. 4. Meetings among inter-agency personnel: i.e., Building maintenance, golf maintenance, housekeeping, membership services, accounting, administration, food and beverage, functions, golf shop and tennis. Programming Gain a working knowledge of: needs assessment, comprehensive program planning and scheduling, staffing, program evaluation, publicity and promotion, registration procedures, fees and charge policies, liability concerns and inventory control. Specific Assignments

6 1. Plan, organize and supervise events; i.e. arts and crafts, poolside events, field trips, hiking and kayak trips, kid s camp, teen adventure programs and much more. 2. Assist in coordinating special events; i.e. parent/child pentathlon, 4 th of July, kids night out, family fun nights. 3. Develop the activity calendar and lead guest activities. 4. Develop resource files for trips, games, crafts, equipment, entertainers etc. 5. Prepare daily message boards. Create a monthly bulletin board for all resort activities. 6. Write and design brochures, flyers, news releases, monthly calendar listings, news articles and seasonal information booklets. 7. Conduct surveys, needs assessments and guest concerns/recommendations. 8. Prepare and be familiar with policy and procedure manuals for the specific recreation areas; i.e., pool, lake, kids camp, recreation center. 9. Assist in program registration for special events, special interest classes and various excursions and programs. Administrative and Financial Procedures 1. Review manuals, club covenants, club rules and regulations, club by-laws, personnel compensation and benefits and purchasing procedures. 2. Review documents: master plans, long and short range plans, budgeting and finances, interagency agreements and contractual agreements. 3. Gain an understanding of historical background, environment, policy-making procedures, organizational chart and interdepartmental relationships. 4. Gain an understanding of: operating and capital budgeting procedures, budgeting reports and records, accounting and purchasing procedures, petty cash procedures, revenue sources and creative financing approaches. Personnel Management Gain an understanding of: position classification and compensation program, job descriptions, job announcements, recruitment process, interviewing process, hiring and terminating processes, orientation and training programs, scheduling, payroll, performance evaluations, discipline procedures and staff motivation techniques. Areas and Facilities Gain an understanding of: maintenance work orders, maintenance scheduling, inventory control, facility design, beautification, maintenance equipment and materials, funding of capital projects, visit all club properties and facilities.

7 GENERAL INTERNSHIP OUTLINE BY MONTH MAY -Arrive to The Quechee Club in Mid-May. -Review Housing arrangements, expectations and rules. -Tour the Quechee Club facilities and receive one on one orientation, receive facility keys and intern manual. -Purchase supplies for upcoming summer. -Prepare promotional materials for summer activities. -Computer and filing system orientation. -Interview any remaining summer applicants. -Budgeting and Purchasing documentation and procedures. -Experience hikes and kayak excursions, destinations and format. -Attend lifeguarding/cpr 1 st Aid classes as necessary. -May evaluations due. JUNE -Recreation staff orientation. -Prepare facilities for scheduled opening dates. -Order supplies for areas. -Preliminary planning for 4 th of July. -Prepare for Landowners Weekend Special Events. -Hiking and kayaking trips. -Confirm transportation reservations for excursions. -Confirm contractual arrangements for upcoming events. -Open all facilities for the summer season. -Attend staff meetings. -Distribute payroll. -Visit another resort and compare amenities/facilities etc. JULY -Implement 4 th of July plans. -Intern mid-point evaluation. -Kids camp supervision and programming -Kids camp registration and needs assessment. -Teen adventure excursions. -Kids Night out programming. -Begin special project assignment. -Substitute in any area as needed to cover breaks or short staffing. -Hike and kayak trips. -Confirm transportation reservations for excursions. -Confirm contractual arrangements for upcoming events. -Write the Recreation News article for the monthly newsletter. -July evaluations due.

8 AUGUST -Teen adventure excursions. -Kids Night out programming. -Hike and kayak trips. -Close up Kids Camps for the season. -Inventory all remaining supplies. -Distribute and analyze staff summer evaluations. -Establish last workdays for seasonal employees. -Become a lifeguard, camp counselor, and health club attendant as the need arises. -Special project due at the end of August. -Inspect intern housing. -Final summer intern evaluations due. SEPTEMBER -Work at lake, pool or health club until Labor Day Weekend. -Close lake facilities for the winter after Labor Day. -Final inspection of intern housing. -Final college evaluations to be sent in.
