The role in which women have served Canada is as varied and unique as the families to which they belong. As serving members and Veterans of the CAF, women continue to lead from the front and serve with pride. Military families couples, caregivers, children - are the backbone of the CAF and give tirelessly in support of those who serve. 3 ABOUT TRUE PATRIOT LOVE True Patriot Love Foundation (TPL) is a national charity that funds unique programs and innovative research in the areas of Veteran family health and support. We honour the sacrifices of members of the Canadian Armed Forces, Veterans and their families by bridging the gap between military and civilian communities, hosting multinational symposiums and organizing ambitious global expeditions. BY THE NUMBERS 10,000 There are approximately 10,000 women serving in both the Regular and Reserve Forces. This total represents approximately 12% of the Forces (2016). 119,111 Total number of military families across Canada, including 62,703 children Women in combat roles began in the Canadian Military in Only 16 other countries allow women in combat roles (2015). TPL IMPACT TPL s investment in national programs has strengthened the framework for women in the Canadian Armed Forces and their families to receive support and services. 34 Since 2014, the Veterans Transition Network has delivered 6 programs dedicated to women with an additional 4 women s programs planned for 2017 in British Columbia, Ontario and Manitoba. In total, 34 women have participated in the Veterans Transition Network Women s Program. 14 The TPL Expedition series have involved 14 women representing business leaders and soldiers. Each has participated in the associated mentorship program to allow a deeper understanding of challenges and leadership potential. 71 The Prince s Operation Entrepreneur has supported 71 female graduates through entrepreneurship boot camps. This represents 25% of total boot camp graduates. 53 Since 2010, over 53 women have participated in the Outward Bound Veterans Program which offers peer-to-peer outdoor resiliency training to those with PTSD. Of those who have completed the course, 2 female Veterans have become peer mentors and instructors at Outward Bound Canada. 3
