1 the HERALD the official newsletter of: October-November 2015 Featured Articles Save the Dates, Fall Recipe & Management Staff on pg. 5 FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK! RESTORE Therapy pg. 2 Resident Spotlight pg. 3 Activities Corner pg. 4 ADMINISTRATOR S NOTE By Beth Totheroh From Everything You Wanted to Know About Your Nursing Home Stay But Were Afraid to Ask, by Eleanor Feldman Barbera, PhD, psychologist in long-term care. For most people, the shared quarters of a nursing home requires leaving most of their stuff behind. This can be challenging, especially if you didn t get a chance to say goodbye to belongings acquired over the course of a lifetime. Let yourself acknowledge and grieve this loss and also give yourself time to adjust. Keep in mind, however, that you are more important than anything you accumulated along the way. You still have you. It s worth the effort to add a few homey touches to your room. You ll feel better in a room that s more personal, and it will give the staff a chance to see you as a full and complete person, and to get to know you. A room can hold the basics, and yet it can also hold so much more if you let it. I love walking into rooms that give me a sense of the resident s life, filled with photos and mementos. While your choices depend on the size of your room, here are some of the things we see used to create a home: Framed Photos Small Tables and Chairs Computers House Plants Bedspreads and Quilts Small Refrigerators Calendars Books Throw pillows Fresh Flowers Doilies Fold-up chairs for visitors Paintings Clocks Candy dishes Artwork Telephones Trophies Anywhere you go, your family knows that wherever you are is where home is. So don t be afraid to leave your house to make a new home in a skilled-nursing community. Remember, no matter what you bring with you, you ll always have you, your family and your friends. Happy Fall Ya ll!
2 RESTORE Therapy pg. 2 RESTORE THERAPY In the last two months, we have shared our home with 22 new patients for a short-term stay. These patients come to us after a hospital stay and they are in need of therapy to RESTORE themselves back home safely. Jack was a RESTORE Therapy patient recently. He came to Heritage Health after he was discharged from the hospital following his surgery. After a short time of staying in the facility for daily therapy and nursing care, Jack went home. He comes now 2-3 times per week to continue his therapy sessions. Looking good Jack! Working on the exercise bikes, walking in the parallel bars and lifting weights are all fine dexterity exercises to help with daily living skills like food preparation tasks, strength, agility and balance. Please help us share the news that Heritage Health is more than just a long-term skilled nursing care community. Heritage Health s RESTORE therapy program will help get you back to your previous level of function. TESTIMONIALS Just had to send a note to let you know how much the staff at Heritage impressed me during Jim s stay there. Always ready to answer a question, always giving a smile or a greeting. This is not always the norm, you know. How refreshing! Keep up the good work Heritage Health employees! - Shirley Wagoner Thank you so much for the care given to our father. Your staff was always so kind and treated him with respect. We were so grateful to have such a quality facility in Hoopeston. The Lynn Knapp family We wish to try and express our heart-felt gratitude for making Dad s stay at Heritage Health such a good and comforting part of his health journey. The environment of caring, servant-heart staff members fills the place with peace, joy, and their H to O efforts were truly exceptional and showed every day. Housekeeping maintains all areas very well and our hats off to the chef. All this and at the same time there was no doubt about each one s professional health care abilities and service provided. Please give your staff a gold star from us Jim Pierce and family
3 Ron and Pat Robling are ready to go! With Dorothy High and Dick Reynolds. Resident Spotlight pg. 3 Congratulations to Ron and Pat Robling, 65 years married on October 15. Wow! Ron graduated two years before Pat did so they couldn t wait to get married just after Pat graduated. Soon after Pat and Ron made their home in Alvin, Il and raised their two children: Rhonda and Mike. When asked what advice they would share with young couples, Ron responded, It ain t been easy. You just work at it every day and do the best you can do for one another. Pat answered, You have to work together to accomplish all that needs to be done. It takes both of you. Great advice from great people. Thank you Ron and Pat for sharing a little bit about yourselves. We are proud to have you call Heritage Health in Hoopeston your home!
