All ICU caregivers (physicians, pharmacists, nurses, respiratory therapists, advanced practice nurses and physicians assistants) will obtain up-to-date and practical information relative to daily management of the critically ill patient. Participants will be able to identify and discuss recent developments and trends through comprehensive didactic sessions. Course Objectives: * Understand the principle and application of a broad array of bedside hemodynamic assessment tools. * Understand the diagnosis and management of several common neurologic problems in the critical care setting, including traumatic brain injury, encephalopathy and delirium. * Utilize a case-based approach to the understanding of common ICU problems such as acid-base disorders and antibiotic choices. Back By Popular Demand! We have added an optional Thoracic Ultrasound Workshop on Friday afternoon. The workshop will provide hands-on simulation stations, featuring hands-on ultrasound evaluation of the chest. This will include evaluation of live models to learn to identify normal chest and pleural anatomy; hands-on practice to learn in plane and out of plane assessment of needle position under ultrasound; hands-on placement of US guided thoracentesis catheter in model; and case-based question/answer session showing actual cases of thoracic pathology that were identified by practitioners in the ICU. Workshop Objectives: * Understand how to select probes, optimize settings, and image the plural in normal subjects. * Understand how to perform ultrasound guided thoracentesis on models.
