Tamera Bavendam, MD, MS Dr. Bavendam will build the case for paradigm shift from treating bladder conditions to understanding bladder health across the life course of women as a necessary step to prevention of bladder conditions that manifest as lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). It is crucial that the stigma surrounding LUTS be lessened. The focus will be on the potentional postoperative issues that can occur after surgery for pelvic organ prolapse, with special attention to the role of the advanced practive provider in management and patient education. Each speaker will give a brief presentation on a topic of interest (e.g., management of postoperative pain or constipation), and the remainder of the session will be opened up to the floor for discussion of specific questions. 2:40 pm 3:55 pm 104: GENERAL SESSION 1.25 Contact Hours Brain MRI in Women with Overactive Bladder (OAB) Ariana Smith, MD The central nervous system controls the ability of the bladder to properly store and empty urine. Evolving literature utilizing MRI technology, including functional MRI, has increased our understanding of the centers of brain control over bladder function. 4

Discussion in this session will include the proper time for transition of care, the transfer of medical records to a new care provider, the need of care providers to communicate effectively during the process, and the support that is necessary to address existing health needs, particularly those of a chronic disease or disability nature. 11:45 am 12:45 pm 204: GENERAL SESSION 1 Contact Hour Primary and Secondary Incontinence Prevention Diane Newman, DNP, ANP-BC Bladder health is important for overall health and is influenced by internal and external factors. Primary prevention can help promote healthy bladder habits, and education on normal bladder function and early treatment seeking for bladder conditions can be part of secondary prevention. The Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates (SUNA) is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation The SUNA accreditation is reciprocal in the states and specialty organizations that recognize the ANCC-COA accreditation process. SUNA is also a provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP Accreditation and approved provider status of CE in nursing does not imply ANCC-COA approval or endorsement of any product, advertising, or educational content. SUNA urges all participants to be aware of the CE requirements for re-licensure in the states in which they hold a license.
