4 PRE- CONFERENCE and CONFERENCE LOCATION Directions from the North From the New York State Thruway (I-90), take exit 42 - Geneva. Once through the toll booth, take a right, heading south on Route 14 toward Geneva. Travel approximately 5.8 miles through the City of Geneva. Turn right on Seneca Street. Travel to the top of the hill to the "T" intersection. Turn left on South Main Street/Route 14. Continue approximately.7 miles. And follow the signs Directions from the East Follow Routes 5&20 west till it intersects with Pulteney St. and at the traffic light turn left and follow the signs. 8 2014 Conference Workshop Descriptions Wow That Was A Cool Call Mark Tornstrom will review several actual challenging call that remind us if some important basics of EMS such as situational awareness, basic assessment and treatment of difficult and infrequent cases and reinforce the need to practice skills that we don t use everyday but may need at a moments notice. Can You Hear Me Now? EMS providers need to know that they can communicate with medical control at any time for life sustaining instructions from a doctor on the other end of a telephone or radio. They should also have the peace of mind to know that they can call their dispatcher when they are in danger In this workshop Steve DeChick will help increase the participants understanding of many types of responders safety issues that exist in the field, teach them how to protect themselves when in danger and provide insight into the best way to call for immediate emergency assistance from a dispatcher in an emergency Community Paramedicine Dr. Munjal discusses the potential benefits community paramedicine can bring to the EMS system in the state such as decreasing the strain on the EMS and ED resources, improving the quality of care provided to the public, and increasing the value that pre-hospital care provides to society. Review of Supraglottic Airways Dr. Laux discusses issues surrounding the use of supraglottic airways. This Patient Is Not Acting Right Dr. Davidoff will review Acute Mental Status Changes and discuss issues providers may encounter. Heads Up! Rich Beebe explores the question as to whether we are hurting our kids by letting them play sports after they have gotten their bell rung? A national conversation is occurring about sports injuries, particularly head injuries, and safe practice while on the field. If you have done a stand by at a sporting event you will want to attend this session. New Directions In Trauma Dr. Smaltz reviews current literature and new trends that are emerging in trauma care. Hand Off Communication Diana Durfey will discuss what information we as providers should be including in a bedside report when we handoff our patients. She will discuss barriers to quality handoff communication, common misconceptions, and tools we can utilize to improve the process.
