3 into a thriving interior hub that houses the Global Learning Commons and features a green roof. And now the $17 million Atrium project has received LEED Canada for New Construction certification with a rating level of Silver. The Atrium was also rewarded the 2011 Architecture Award from the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction. Now, the time is right for us to share our successes beyond this area," said David Feldberg, President & CEO. "Teknion s Corporate Responsibility Report is a record of our wider corporate citizenship efforts, and tells about a company that is constantly evolving and always seeking new ways to advance itself and the industry that it serves." Teknion s corporate responsibility story chronicles a company rooted in family and committed to its employees, partners, business and the environment. The 48-page Corporate Responsibility Report highlights four areas where Teknion has the greatest responsibility and opportunity to make a positive impact
5 Environmental Initiatives; Health, Safety and Well-Being; Inclusivity and Diversity; and Engagement and Education. The new Corporate Responsibility Report is available on Teknion s web site. Learn the chemistry, selection of materials and tools, preparation of surfaces and application of both non-hydraulic and hydraulic limes from Ben Scott, founder of Lime Plaster Company ( and a heritage plasterer. Cost will be modest and to be determined Please contact Rod Malay (rod_malay@hotmail.com and sign up on our facebook page R2 - please do Time to review the 2006 Municipal Planning Strategy - the official planning document that shows Haligonians desire to ultimately densify the Halifax Peninsula and old City of Dartmouth. With a target of 25% growth for this area (approximately 11,000 more people by 2011), we ve missed the mark by achieving only 16%. Then we stare, scratch our heads and ask, why?. One big reason is that in many cases the zoning intent and related development constraints are in direct contradiction. Although much of Halifax Peninsula is zoned R-2 (which allows two, three of four dwellings on a site), the associated development constraints restrict the majority of lots on the Peninsula to one dwelling only. Secondary dwellings like income units are prohibited when the height or volume of a building is increased through renovation. Get out the eraser, HRM, it s time to make the change.
