1 The Best Use of Windows and Doors residential Award recognises fenestration products that complement and enhance the design of a dwelling or building. The windows and/ or doors are presented So as to showcase and highlight the way in which fenestration products can contribute to and improve the attractiveness of a building. The AWA Design Awards aim to: Increase the level of interest in windows, doors and fenestration products. Raise the awareness, profile and interest in Australian Window Association members and differentiate them from others. Execute a consistent professional showcase for window systems, celebrating and recognising excellence. There are three categories in the Best Use of Windows & Doors: Residential Award: Residential New Construction under $1 Million Residential New Construction over $1 Million Residential Renovation Entry conditions Only AWA Members may apply. Both the systems suppliers and fabricators on the project must be AWA Members. The construction must be in Australia. Maximum two (2) entries per category.. Completed submissions do not need to be professionally printed or bound. Judging Criteria Judging will be based on the following criteria: 25% 25% 20% 10% 10% 10% Suitability of products used: energy, ventilation, functionality, longevity, other. Summary of window effectiveness: How well explained. Visual impact of the windows in the building. Aesthetics of the building overall. Energy performance of window systems. Environmental impact of the building overall (including windows). It is ultimately the judges discretion as to whether an award will be granted for a particular category, particularly if there is a small number of entrants. As a general rule, first place will be awarded in each category. However, if there are a large number of entrants, other applicants may be awarded a special commendation such as highly commended. Judges can decide to not grant an award for any category where no entrant reflects the criteria to a sufficient standard or no entrant reflects the objectives of the Best Use of Windows & Doors Award, in that they celebrate excellence in workmanship in the window industry. 2 Residential: A detached house, one of a group of two or more attached dwellings (row house, terrace house, town house, or villa unit); A guest house or the like in which not more than 12 persons would ordinarily be resident. The Best Use of Windows and Doors will be judged on the submission provided by the entrant. As the competition is national, judges will not be able to physically visit the sites. Note: To qualify for the Residential Renovation category at least 20% of the original structure must be retained. Application Requirements The application requires the following information to be included:: Upload Instructions To prevent any loss in quality, all image files must be supplied in RGB format at a resolution of 300dpi. A useful shorthand is a file size of at least 1MB. Files should be no larger than 10MB. Images from websites that have been up-resed artificially to 300 dpi will be unusable for promotional purposes. We recommend that large files are submitted via a USB or CD. If this is not possible, please use a file transfer website (e.g.. If more than ten photos are submitted, ten will be picked at random. Accepted file formats:.jpeg.tif A 3 minute video of the site may also be submitted. Footage over this time limit will not be viewed. Accepted file formats:.mp4 Note: Renovation applications must supply before and after photos. 2. Identify the Architect/Designer, Builder and fabricator of the building Please ensure that the Architect, Designer, Builder and Owner agree to the use of photos of the site for promotional purposes. The AWA will endeavour, but not guarantee, to attribute the names of the architect/designer and builder to the photos. The Fabricator must be a member of the AWA for the project to be eligible. Non-members will be disqualified. 3. Product effectiveness State the names and identify the features of the windows and doors used. Include details of specifications, including ratings, and compare with the design brief. Provide information and specifics on the suitability of products used for the site, for example: glass, thickness of anodizing, etc. Summarise the effectiveness of the use of your windows and/or doors. 4. Sustainability Demonstrate the environmental impact of this construction. For example: WERS rating, energy saving, building performance, ventilation, passive solar heat gain, solar heat reduction.
