1 Driving business success why the Chamber is good for real estate The advantage of being active with the Chamber is that you re in-the-know when opportunities come up. Charlie Chen DFW Technology As a real estate professional, you know that information and people are crucial to your success. Your business depends on knowing who is buying or selling, what is available and what its value is. You can find both information and leads at the Richardson Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber s Broker & Developer series is a bi-monthly luncheon for commercial real estate professionals, hosted at available properties in Richardson. The purpose of the lunch is to create visibility for vacant properties and bring commercial brokers and developers together. The Growth & Mobility Luncheon focuses on current economic development activities in Richardson and transportation issues impacting Richardson and the surrounding area. You can network with other real estate professionals at these events, and meet people of other professional backgrounds at our breakfast or happy hour networking events. Community pride and recognition also contribute to you and your businesses success. When you give back to the community, your customers and contacts feel good about doing business with you. A national study found consumers are 63 percent more likely to do business with a company they believe is a member of the Chamber. With many sponsorship opportunities, your company can be branded as building something longterm beyond just buildings and space. Your involvement with the Chamber will give you access to more civic leaders and will add credibility to your reputation in the community. When it comes to growing your business, YOU are in the driver s seat. Join the Richardson Chamber of Commerce so, together, we can drive business success for you and the real estate community in Richardson. Where do you want to go?

2 Jerry Cornelius Canyon Creek Art & Frame Chamber members are driving bu Dan Johnson Richardson City Manager Geoff Wright Dine Smart, Dine Local Paul Peck Entrepreneur Mentor The Richardson Chamber of Commerce has been driving business success in Richardson for nearly 70 years. There s a reason we are accredited in the top 1% of chambers of commerce in the country with a 5-star rating by the US Chamber of Commerce, earned in Economic development is the cornerstone of what we do for the community. The Chamber has members of the staff dedicated to marketing Richardson to companies looking to relocate their businesses, especially those companies who hire workers with advanced skill sets. Why? Companies bring jobs, especially high-paying jobs, which give Richardson residents a higher standard of living. At the same time, successful businesses create a strong tax base that can be used in our city for quality roads, parks and resources for our kids schools. The shining example of the last year is the $1.5 billion mixed-use development at Plano Road and the George Bush Turnpike, where State Farm will create thousands of jobs. The Chamber works to both bring in new retail businesses and revitalize current shopping centers in Richardson. The last 10 years has brought improvements to 10 shopping centers and creation of more than 50 new restaurants. Movement continues along US 75, particularly in the Heights Shopping Center with the addition of the Alamo Drafthouse, an acquisition that was a direct result of Chamber efforts. The Chamber has educated the leaders of Richardson businesses and civic leaders since Leadership Richardson (LR) is a shining example of building community leadership. Current Richardson Mayor Laura Maczka said LR showed me that there is so much more to our community and ways to get involved. I went through LR and jumped in with both feet into the bigger community. Five years later, I am serving in ways I never dreamed I would serve. The Chamber influenced gaining tax breaks for businesses during this year s Texas legislative session. The Chamber also produces a score card for members about how their legislators voted during the session. Where do you want to go? The Chamber can help you get there. Find out about our various programs for all kinds of needs and types of businesses. We know people, we help your neighbors, and we re driving your business success.

3 siness success in Richardson Aaron MacPhie BKM Sowan Horan Richardson was built on a foundation of business growth and smart planning that flows into business success and community health today. These do not happen by accident, but rather through planning and cooperation between the Chamber, the City, and the residents of Richardson. Brought some of the world s largest corporations to Richardson including MCI/Verizon in 1972, Blue Cross Blue Shield in 1978, Fujitsu in 1988 and Cisco in 2005, among many others. Facilitated Texas Instruments building its world-class fabrication facility on Renner Road. Branded Richardson as the Telecom Corridor of the world and creating the Metroplex Technology Business Council (MTBC) in 1994, advocating technology for all of North Texas. Created STARTech, a for-profit high-tech business incubator supporting entrepreneurial efforts, including investment funding and affordable office space in Richardson. Growth of cloud computing facilities and companies, including VCE, ViaWest, Steam Data and Digital Realty. 81% of Chamber members said they would recommend membership to others in a 2012 survey. Documented more than 1200 business referrals just from the Chamber s weekly networking breakfast, EarlyNet, during Continued support of education, including 55 years of welcoming new teachers with lunch every August. The Chamber raised $40,000 to fund a Free Enterprise Curriculum (City) for RISD in Endorsed in Austin the creation of the University of Texas at Dallas in 1969, and supporting a proposed junior college district for Dallas County in Found land for the construction of the first major hospital in Richardson, Methodist Richardson, and again with its expansion at Renner/George Bush Turnpike. Supported various city bond elections and municipal issues, including the city s hotel/motel tax--all contributing to the infrastructure and resource health in Richardson. The Chamber supported Richardson becoming part of the North Texas Municipal Water District in 1973, which continues to be a crucial resource today. Worked through the politics and forming a task force to aid the construction of 190/George Bush Turnpike. Helped bring DART public transportation to Richardson, first through a bus line in 1982, then by light rail in Currently working with civil leaders for solutions to create the DART Cotton Belt line, which would connect Richardson through north DFW to the DFW Airport. 5 Paul Peck Entrepreneur mentor Driving business success why the Chamber is good for small business As a small business owner, you know that creating meaningful relationships within the community is key to survival. In Richardson, there s no better place to do that than the Richardson Chamber of Commerce. Chamber members are not just local business owners. They are your potential customers with an added bonus. They have their own network of customers they can refer to your business. Think about the potential growth your business could experience by establishing a relationship with just one other local business owner. At the Richardson Chamber, you have access to hundreds of them, as well as events and programs where you can interact with them regularly. Our programs actually serve several purposes. Some are promotional outlets for our restaurant and retail business members including Local Proud and Dine Smart, Dine Local. A ribbon cutting will bring ambassadors and city council members to your door. Networking is core with a weekly breakfast leads generator called EarlyNet, and a monthly happy hour at a Chamber member office called PM Connections. Community pride also contributes to your success. When you give back to the community, your customers feel good about doing business with you. A national study found consumers are 63 percent more likely to do business with a company they believe is a member of the chamber. Your involvement with the Chamber will also give you access to more civic leaders and will add credibility to your reputation in the community.
