3 P ARISH LIFE Summer Potpourri The women of the church are invited to participate in a Thursday morning gathering titled Summer Potpourri. From 10:00 11:30 am, we will share our spiritual walk with each other by meeting, praying, studying, laughing and exploring. Unless notified otherwise, meetings will be in Grace Hall. Chapel Mass has a new home for the summer schedule. We will have our services in Grace Hall where we can experience the intimacy and casualness that space provides. 6 YEAR ROUND STEWARDSHIP YOUTH CONFIRMATION How many of us in the church cringe when we hear the word stewardship? Do we think, Oh no! It s that time again! The next few weeks are all about money and pledging. The reality is, however, that stewardship is occurring at St. David s every day, every month, and goes far beyond our monetary gifts. This month we spotlight our Youth Confirmation Ministry, led by Jill and Michael Sutton. For the past eight years the Suttons have taught the youth confirmation class at St. David s, shepherding, supporting, and encouraging a group of high school sophomores to, in Michael s words, seek a relationship with Jesus. Meeting weekly throughout the school year, the Suttons not only prepare these young people to be officially received into the Episcopal Church, but they also encourage their students to understand and deepen their personal faith, which means allowing and discussing the hard questions, such as Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people? Eight years, over 30 weekly classes per year, over 150 youth confirmed. Why do they do it? Both Jill and Michael agree, We learn as much as we teach. Stewardship really is what we do with all that God has given us, all the time. Jill and Michael Sutton and their leadership in Youth Confirmation offer us a shining example of year-round stewardship in action. Our speaker will be the Rev. Julia M. Gatta, Ph.D. and Professor of Theology. Mother Gatta is the author of many books on Christian spirituality, including one to be released in 2018, Life in Christ: Practicing Christian Spirituality. The cost of the weekend will be $205 in St. Mary's Hall (dorm-style building with bathrooms on the hall), and $240 for Anna House (newer building with private bath and A/C). Matthew Linn, SJ, will be with us the weekend of August to teach on God s Healing Presence. Fr. Linn has been teaching on the integration of physical, emotional and spiritual healing since He has taught courses and lead retreats on healing throughout the United States and in over 60 countries and has co-authored 22 books with his brother and sister-inlaw Dennis and Sheila Linn.
