2 Dear Members and Guests of GFWC Georgia: Welcome to GFWC Georgia s 122nd annual convention at The Classic Center in Athens. I am so pleased that you could join us as we celebrate the ending of the administration and the beginning of the administration. I am delighted to have as our special guest GFWC Director of Junior Clubs Jolie Frankfurth who has traveled from Florida to be with us this weekend. Given our shortened Convention format, this weekend will be a busy one. We will open Convention with a special Junior Night, where we will celebrate the Junior Conference and recognize its members accomplishments. At Saturday morning s opening session, we will embrace our traditions of patriotism and ceremony as the Girl Scouts present our colors and our six District Presidents process with their flags. Saturday lunch will feature a special presentation to Tallulah Falls School, as we transfer the Elaine Singley Chandler Scholarship Fund. Following lunch, we will work on our service project for this year s Convention: organizing and dividing the items we have brought for use at the Athens Nurses Clinic. Saturday night, Jolie Frankfurth will speak, and we will close out the weekend on Sunday morning with our memorial service, Silver Awards Brunch, and, most importantly, the installation of the GFWC Georgia Officers. Throughout the weekend, we will celebrate the accomplishments of our organization, our clubs, and our individual members. On behalf of GFWC Georgia, let me thank all of you for being here; your presence is a present. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to my fellow officers, the District Presidents ( Reasey s Royals ), and my CSP and Special and Standing Committee Chairmen. The only way that I am able to do my job is because they all do theirs so well. I also want to thank my club, the Dunwoody Woman s Club, for all they do to support me. Finally, I thank my Conventions and Meetings Chairmen, Julie Walters and George Ann Hoffman, who have thought of every detail throughout the planning process. I am amazed at everything Georgia clubwomen do to make such a difference in their communities every day. Serving as your President is both a privilege and a pleasure, and I am grateful for this opportunity. Thank you for being with your fellow GFWC clubwomen this weekend as we celebrate our past accomplishments from and move forward into Yours in Federation, Ida Ida Dorvee President, GFWC Georgia April 20, 2018 Dear GFWC Georgia Juniors and Fellow Clubwomen, Welcome to the 122 nd Annual GFWC Georgia State Convention in our hip college town, home of the University of Georgia, Pulitzer prize winning authors and famous rock venues! I am looking forward to celebrating with all of you this weekend. In our Federation, Juniors are given the opportunity to be mentored and learn from our more seasoned clubwomen. Jolie Frankfurth, our very own GFWC International Junior Director will be our guest speaker at the dinner banquet. You will not want to miss the exhilarating message that Jolie will bring to our Federation sisters. We are so honored to have her with us this weekend. Please join me in Welcoming Jolie to GFWC Georgia and sharing our southern hospitality with her during her visit. I know everyone is looking forward to the awards portion of the Junior Banquet. I know that we do not volunteer for the awards, but it is nice to be recognized. I appreciate all the hours volunteered and dollars donated by our clubwomen in You ladies never cease to amaze me! Bag of Hope The mission of the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance (GOCA) is to increase awareness and educate women, their families, as well as the health care community about risks, symptoms, and treatment of ovarian cancer leading to earlier detection. In 1998, a group of Atlanta women met each other at the St. Joseph s Gynecological Cancer Support Group. All ovarian cancer survivors with different stories to share, they began pooling their energies and passions with the intent to bring awareness of ovarian cancer and early detection to the forefront of women s health issues. The first step was to educate Georgia s women, their families and their healthcare providers about the risks, symptoms and treatments of ovarian cancer. This initial passion and their Awareness. Knowledge. Action. campaign remains very much the focus of GOCA today. Since their beginning, GOCA has transformed from an idea hatched at a founders dining room table to a very strong, community based non-profit organization led by those touched by ovarian cancer in some way. With a strong base of supporters, volunteers, and staff they continue to reach thousands of women and their families with their life saving messages. 9
