1 2018 Vol. 28 No. 1 February 2018 The 28th Annual Magnolia Ball will provide funding for a new, Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton, to care for very small and very sick newborn babies. The new NICU will serve the community s tiniest and most vulnerable patients, including premature babies and infants with serious medical conditions. Without local access to NICU care, these patients endure the risks of being transported to hospitals as far away as Rome, Columbus or downtown Atlanta. William and Rhonda Rogers The Magnolia Ball Project With proceeds from the 2018 Magnolia Ball, west Georgia and east Alabama will soon have a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to care for very small and very sick newborn babies. Our community s tiniest and most fragile patients, including premature and infants with serious medical conditions, previously endured the risks of being transported to hospitals as far away as Rome, Columbus or downtown Atlanta. With your help, soon they will receive the specialized care they need, closer to home, in a fraction of the time. Thank you for supporting our community s future! Drs. William and Rhonda Rogers were introduced as the Honorary Chairs of the 28 th Annual Magnolia Ball at the kick-off reception at the Carrollton home of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Green on Jan. 25. Mrs. Susan Fleck, Vice-Chair of Tanner Medical Foundation Board of Directors, introduced the honorees with a series of hints about their identities. Guests learned that after graduating from the Medical College of Georgia, the young couple moved to Carrollton to practice medicine. In the 34 years they ve been here, they ve raised four wonderful children, healed thousands of people and were instrumental in establishing a church to meet the spiritual needs of our area, said Mrs. Fleck. Some are born into our community and others marry into it. Our honorees have helped shape our community into the special place it is. Dr. William Rogers joined Tanner s medical staff in 1983 and is the medical director of the John and Barbara Tanner Cardiac Rehab Center at the Tanner Heart and Vascular Center. Dr. Rhonda Rogers was the third female physician to serve our community. She specializes in Dermatology at Dermatology Specialists of West Georgia. It s quite an honor for us and we re glad to serve, said Will Rogers, MD. We re glad to be part of this next phase of the Neonatal Intensive Care. We have raised four children here and we are expecting our sixth grandbaby this summer, said Rhonda Rogers, MD. We have had one grandchild in the NICU in Atlanta, so this is an honor. We feel very special. This is a worthy cause, these precious babies, so be generous, donate and let s have fun with it.

They thanked the 2018 Vice-Chairs, Mrs. Melina Douthit, Mrs. Mandy Jackson, Mrs. Lindsay Jennings and Mrs. Laura Lenaeus, and all of the Magnolia Ball committee members. Mrs. Jennifer George, Mrs. Barbara Paul and Mrs. Laura Lenaeus shared powerful stories about complications that arose when their children were born, and how vital the new NICU will be for the community. It s not just a matter of convenience, it really is going to improve outcomes for babies in this community, said Mrs. Lenaeus.
